Hello everyone! Apologies in advance for terrible english, but whatever.

I came across an older Pioneer, an AVIC-F920BT and scored a great deal on it and figured I'll put it to use right away.

Everything of the wiring was hassle-free to mount and connect, but the software itself seems to be a challenge for me.

I have done a fair bit of googling around on it and found out I've got stuck and am now going to ask the professionals for help.... on this forum, that is.

I want to upgrade the firmware on it, since it is platform version 2.000 and Application version is 2.003  (Version 02.0000) .

Bluetooth on it does not work at the moment for some reason, might be  able to get it working when it gets a software update, who knows? Also going to try update the map package afterwards.

However, to do so, I would need some help. The unit came without an SD card in the slot and I had two old ones I can use, reformatted them to FAT32 and downloaded the firmware update from Pioneer's website.  I plugged it into the port on the player and hoped the best it would just update right away or after some waiting, but alas, nothing.
 

I suspect I need to mount the SD card to bootable device to run the installation update, perhaps? Is there such a file + mount guide around here perhaps?
I found some eBay links, but am not quite sure if it would work since it's... sort of risky to me (not an experienced eBay user).

I could also let you know everything works on the unit so far, map and navigation is a little old, but that is fine.. for now, when driving locally, at least.

If you have any tips, tricks and helpful information, please send them this way and I will provide more information if needed.

Note: the firmware and maps are updated together, not separately. Bluetooth drivers are a separate step. You say your Bluetooth is not working, so it might have a hardware problem which new firmware can't fix. These units are about 15 years old so hardware problems are common. 

You sound unfamiliar with Pioneer nav units. The SD is only used for updates, and to play media files. Be sure to find and read the Pioneer update instructions for this release. I don't have an F series Pioneer and haven't done any Pioneer updates in many years, so I probably can only point to the place to look for answers.

Hola disculpa realice la actualización en mi f920bt y algo salió mal. 

Al iniciar empieza que está actualizado 2019 y después me pone la pantalla negra y dice inserte tarjeta correcta y no pasa de esa pantalla

In order to get help to find what you have done wrong you need to post more details.

The fact that we don't speak the same language makes the harder.

Did the 2019 map update finish? How long did the update take to finish? It usually takes about 20 minutes.

If you get that "Insert correct SD" message before the update is completed then there is something wrong with the files on your SD or the SD size or format type is incompatible with the radio. 

What size SD are you using? Is it formatted Fat32?

The files you copied to the SD card must not be modified from the update except for Cardinfo.cif. which must be replaced with the one for the F920bt.

One more thing. You can use the same SD for the update as you used for the ShortFuse hack. But be sure to erase all the ShortFuse files before loading the map update files. I recommend formatting it first.

Los archivos copiados a la tarjeta SD no deben modificarse a partir de la actualización, excepto Cardinfo.cif, que debe reemplazarse por el del F920bt.

Una cosa más. Puedes usar la misma tarjeta SD para la actualización que la que usaste para hackear ShortFuse. Pero asegúrate de borrar todos los archivos ShortFuse antes de cargar los archivos de actualización del mapa. Te recomiendo formatearla primero.

Si se terminó de instalar la actualización de mapas 2019 tardo aproximadamente unos 30 minutos 

Después de instalar la actualización por accidente se volvió a actualizar y es cuando me marco el error 

Ya no se dejó instalar y me pidió inserte tarjeta correcta y solo se quedó en esa pantalla 

La SD es formato fat32

El shortfuse si funcionó al inicio sin ningún problema 

Tengo una duda si el cardinfo que tengo es el que dió el problema 

O hay alguna forma de restablecerlo de fabrica y empezar de nuevo con la actualización

What happens if you eject the SD then reboot? If is not supposed to try to install the same version of the maps. So it shouldn't have hurt anything.

There is a way to go back to the previous version but I have the instructions on my computer and I am away from the office. I can check tomorrow.

OK, I think we should try this first. It is less destructive than my other idea. It appears that your attempt to install the 2019 update did not complete successfully for an unknown reason. When this occurs, the radio is stuck in "update mode".  I wrote a script to terminate this mode, so I think it will leave your radio running the previous firmware and maps. You can then either continue with your old version or try to update to 2019 again.

To run this script, download the attached ZIP file. Extract the zip, which should contain two files:

• ScriptExec
• TESTMODE.KEY

Copy only these two files into root of an empty FAT32 SD. Try not to use an SD larger than 8 GB although 32 GB might work.   Insert this SD into your radio and the script should run. You might need to turn it off and on if it does not automatically run.

There will be a message in English "PRESS ANY KEY TO TERMINATE FAILED UPDATE  OR   TURN OFF IGNITION TO ABORT" and it will wait for a keypress to continue. After it runs, it will have another English message "Done - Now eject your SD and restart you head unit.". So remove the SD then press a key.  This will take the unit out of Upgrade Mode, and should restart into regular mode on next power up (remember to remove the TestMode SD).  Note: it will not damage the radio if it runs again, but you must remove the SD in order to use the radio.

I think this will get you past your immediate problem, but I don't know why the 2019 update failed. Maybe try again, or download the update again.  Make sure you only change Cardinfo.cif.  You should not need to reinstall ShortFuse hack, it should still be installed.

Después de que se ejecute, aparecerá otro mensaje en inglés que dice "Listo - Ahora expulse su tarjeta SD y reinicie la unidad principal". Por lo tanto, retire la tarjeta SD y presione una tecla. Esto sacará la unidad del modo de actualización y debería reiniciarse en modo normal la próxima vez que se encienda (recuerde retirar la tarjeta SD TestMode). Nota: no dañará la radio si se ejecuta nuevamente, pero debe retirar la tarjeta SD para poder usar la radio.

Creo que esto te ayudará a solucionar tu problema inmediato, pero no sé por qué falló la actualización de 2019. Tal vez debas intentarlo nuevamente o descargar la actualización nuevamente. Asegúrate de cambiar solo Cardinfo.cif. No deberías necesitar reinstalar ShortFuse hack, debería seguir instalado.

I'm not sure I understand. Did the 2019 update actually complete, and these messages show when you attempted to update the Bluetooth firmware from the menu? I can't read the Spanish text in the picture and of course Google won't translate an image. So I can't know exactly what the problem is. 

Update: I found how to translate text in photos using Google Lens:

• "Updating Bluetooth software. It will take a few minutes. Do not turn off the unit until the update is finished."
• "There is a defect and the update is not possible. "

I hope someone who has successfully installed the 2019 update might help. 

Another option would be to go back to install the 2017 update which has Bluetooth drivers in a directory named \FIRMWARE and you install it from the Bluetooth settings menu. 

Just to be clear, did your Bluetooth work OK before you first tried installing 2019? I have seen some people had issues that left the Bluetooth firmware version missing. I think that it was caused by a hardware problem.

I believe there is a way to manually install Bluetooth firmware using TestMode. But I've never done it.

Para que quede claro, ¿funcionaba bien tu Bluetooth antes de intentar instalar la versión 2019? He visto que algunas personas tuvieron problemas que hicieron que faltara la versión del firmware de Bluetooth. Creo que se debió a un problema de hardware.

Creo que hay una manera de instalar manualmente el firmware de Bluetooth mediante TestMode, pero nunca lo he hecho.

Si quiero la actualización 2017 pero no encuentro los archivos ya no hay acceso para bajarlos, solo tengo los 2019

I believe that 2017 and 2019 had the same Bluetooth firmware. So I don't know how your firmware went missing or why it errors when installed through the Bluetooth settings menu.

As I said, in Testmode, there are diagnostic tests and there is a way to force load Bluetooth firmware. But the service manual is not clear on how to do this.

Como dije, en el modo de prueba hay pruebas de diagnóstico y existe una manera de forzar la carga del firmware de Bluetooth. Pero el manual de servicio no es claro sobre cómo hacerlo.
