I just had a Z1 installed in my 2006 Civic Si. Did a lot of research and purchased Ducatiboy's circuit. My installer couldn't get it to work and Ducatiboy was good enough to talk to him. However, it seems that everything is hooked up properly and it won't unlock the Z1. We tried manually pulsing the illimantion lead, multiple resets including level 4 and nothing works. The unit was manufactured in July, 2006. I'm thinking that Pioneer may have closed this hole although they did not increment the revision numer (1.0000).

Any ideas?

If Pioneer truely closed this hole as you describe then there will be a lot of disappointed future Z1 users out there. I guess the good news is the version number is still the same so this possible closure is more hardware than firmware. I was concerned future firmware upgrades would eliminate DucatiBoy's circuit. Maybe we can start listing build dates of Z1's...I have a May build date and DB's circuit works great. Anyone else?

june 06 bypass works awesome

Damn, that sucks. I can't imagine using the Z1 without the bypass. I guess Alpine is going to start getting a lot more customers since they have a much more open system.

I just wish I didn't have such a bad taste in my mouth from my experience with the absolutely horrible CDA-98xx series.

I'm really beginning to believe no manufacturers do any kind of usability testing of their systems.

SiGuy's Z1 is a July 06 and we were messing with flashing to the point of a dozen flashes when it booted up and nothing. This is going to create a support nightmare for the most recent units sold.

I just put mine in last night, wired up the bypass as instructed in the instructions ducatiboy provided. Yet no dice on the bypass. The illumimation works as well, even tried the light flash but no dice.

It might be the problem with the new units. What's your manufaturer date of your Z1?
Posted Aug 10, 2006 · 16:53 UTC#8
Well first a stupid question. Where do I find the manufacture date of the unit?

Then onto the testing, tried doing the resets but they didn't work. Tried resetting the unit from the front. No change at all.

The only time I can even access the Restore to factory defaults is if I ground the parking brake wire. This doesn't do anything either.

I have yet to try restoring to factory defaults then resetting afterwards. But somehow I don't think that'll work.

Any new advice on this would be great.

DJ, The manufacture date is printed on the seriel number label on the box and also on one of the yellow labels on top of the unit.

Thanks for putting up with that question.

Ducatiboy, to do the flashing procedure with the actual lights, can I have your circuit installed or do I have to remove it?

I want to test with your circuit out to see if I can get my unit to respond to it. Then I can figure something else out from there.

So Lito, What's your manufacture date?
Posted Aug 10, 2006 · 19:07 UTC#12
I won't be able to check until I get off of work. In about 3 hours.

Manufacture date is July 2006.

Earlier today after switching the regional settings, the system let me drive for a while with everything unlocked. It lasted for 10 minutes maybe.

My understanding is that it will let you drive 10-15 min then grey out most of the functions. I'm returninig mine and trying to find an older one. This really sucks as I'm sure any future updates from Pioneer will close this hole on units that don't currently have it. I believe in safety but not allowing you to cancel or change a route, let alone making a phine call is crazy. It's much more dangerous to try and make a call from the handset.

Well that was a one time possible "fluke".

My next venture will be to remove the flasher and see if I can flash the lights on my own, unless I don't need to take it out to do that.

I tried wit and without the flasher, even disconnecting the cars illumination circuit and just pulsed the Z1 with 12 volts (which is what the flasher and turning your lights on do). It NEVER unlocked. Good luck with it. Hopefully there is s different bypass that someone will discover and post.

I'll be trying, I think that since my unit unlocked for those brief moments, that there is just something we both happened to miss.

I can live without the functions, I'd just like to figure this out.

No jus tlike SiGuy said, it will let you drive around for 10-15mins before the motion safety kicks in.... Its starting to sound like pioneer fixed the bypass. For us who already have Z1s i hope its a hardware only fix and for those who are going to buy them in the future i hope we will find another easy bypass.

But the catch is is that when that happens I have the parking brake wire grounded. Its on a switch so I can turn it on or off.

The fact that its unlocking in the first place is a sign to me that its just a wiring problem somewhere and the bypass is still working.

Especially considering that ducatiboy says that the parking brake disables his circuit. So I'm certainly going to be finding out for sure what is going on here. Its almost like its unlocking on startup but then eventually catching on that the parking brake is grounded.

I highly doubt Pioneer fixed it yet as some with the July 06 v1.00000 units have it working and we are having problems. I think the problem is either our cars or our wiring. More to come later.

TAKE YOUR SWITCH OUT OF THE EQUATION... just leave the brake detect wire floating
Posted Aug 11, 2006 · 18:14 UTC#21
It was happening both ways, with and without it hooked up.

But naturally I'm open to suggestions as always.

I'm just hesitant to do it, as the switch should be identical to leaving it floating once the switch is off.

Unless I am mistaken.

You shouldn't need to physically remove the switch. If it's just a toggle switch which connects and disconnects the ground from the parking brake wire, you can just flip the switch, it shouldn't matter if you physically remove it.

Thats what I figured, and why we put a switch in.

If I get your circuit working I can just leave it off, if cops come, click it on just in case.

If I can't get it working, I can still click it on so that it'll work when stopped.

OK Guys,

Here's some key information. I swapped my July unit out with a June unit, just unplugged one and plugged in the other and the override works fine. They clearly changed it sometime in July. Hopefully, someone will discover the latest bypass and Ducattiboy can find an automated way to implement it.
Posted Aug 11, 2006 · 19:56 UTC#25
Thanks for that news.

If I can't find the exact fix I've already contacted my supplier in order to get an earlier unit.

Glad to see yours works now, now to just get mine.
