Couple of questions....

1) Anyone know if the voice recognition works with making calls with an iPhone (not working for me).

2) Screen splash --> I'm trying to change the background and it's not working. I'm doing it thru USB and it just locks up. I changed the image size to the recommended settings and kept it under 15MB....still not working.

3) Error keeps appearing that says parking brake sensor is improperly installed. Might simply be that it wasn't installed correctly, but just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone else has this problem.

4) Every once in a while ALL audio just simply stops working. I have no idea what is going on here. Any ideas?

The unit is not too bad. I thought I was getting MSN Direct and was told wrong I guess. Other than that the voice recognition for music is actually great. So far it understands just about anything I throw at it. The ipod controls work great for the iPhone (not sure about others...5th question --> what are the FULLY compatible iPOD's for this unit (including video). It does take a little while to load up every time (2 min) I turn on the car, but it's not that big a hassel b/c the radio comes on while it's loading. I hope this thing can be upgraded with a software update via USB or SD or something, but I'm not sure....Navigation in the unit is great (even tells you when your speeding), but it would be MUCH better if I had MSN.

I welcome any questions and appreciate any answers... I give this thing a (7/10) so far.

I had no problems changing the wallpapers. I do have the annoyance of the iPod taking forever to become usable as the voice software has to sit there and scan the damn thing everytime.

Had several random reboots, etc. We can only hope for a FW update and FAST.

BTW, what iPod cable are you using? The PC one or the official 230 one from Pioneer.

I'm using the pioneer cable. Are you using an iPhone?

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 02:17 UTC#4

No, just a 5.5G 30GB video. I also tried a friends iPod Nano fatty.

1. I was told this was just a issue with my pre-production unit. I spoke to Pioneer, and they said they are working with Apple to get this resolved ASAP.

2. No problems with my splash screen, importing from a USB Flash Drive.

3. Yeah, same issue, thought it was a pre-production glitch.

4. Never had that problem.

x2 more on the parking brake error. Getting it on both f90bts I installed today.

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 03:22 UTC#7

Same here with the parking brake error. Could be due to the fact that I grounded it, expecting a bypass soon.

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 03:25 UTC#8

I did that too but then I put it back to normal and I still get it. my wife's was wired per the instructions (didn't attempt bypass) and I get it there too so there may be a bug. Seems fine after you click ok.

It's really starting to anger me with how many things that Pioneer seems to have messed up with right off the bat with these units. They're so close to being perfect. I miss my D3 now. Even though the iPod interface was slow, I never had the thing freeze on me or pull any weird crap.

I am willing to except some issues as long as they get fixes out pretty soon. We need to make sure we let them know about all the issues we hit.

Did you try moving the mute wire to one of the open holes in the RCA harness?

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 13:11 UTC#12

Yes the mute wire was moved to the open hole like in the d3 bypass mod.

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 19:09 UTC#13

Isn't there more than one hole to try?

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 20:15 UTC#14

I believe there was only one. The same one as the d3 bypass.

Posted Jun 07, 2008 · 22:35 UTC#15

There is more than one hole in the D3 harness, you just have to know which one to use. Maybe the F series is the same thing

Does anyone else have to "accept" the GPS agreement every time they start their car?

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 04:06 UTC#17

Me too. Man, I can't wait to get a 90BT. That better not have all these damn bugs.

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 04:24 UTC#18

Yeah you have to accept the agreement or no Nav. Thats on mostly all Nav systems.

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 04:37 UTC#19

Yeah, but before, like on the D3, that warning only showed up when you went to actually use the nav, now it shows up upon starting the system, regardless of whether or not you even go into the nav menus. A small annoyance.

I hear ya.I have an Eclipse unit and as soon as I cut the car on, there it is.

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 06:13 UTC#21

I hate to burst anyone's bubble. I had an F90BT installed Friday. Mine has all of the same bugs. Don't expect the F90 to be that much different.

- Voice command of bluetooth connections - nonexistent / doesn't work.

- Sound quality of bluetooth connections when they do work - CRAPPY / AWFUL -- way worse than Motorola headset, that's for sure.

- Bypass doesn't work. Just bypassing the parking break doesn't cut it. There's a speed-sensitive component as well. Curious as my understanding is that the F-series doesn't use the VSS. However, above about 5 mphs, all of the features you want gray out.

I'll keep probing...

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 06:28 UTC#22

This is completely unacceptable.Pioneer had to have known about these issues but they still shipped them to the stores.I think I'll hold on to my old Eclipse unit where I have 0 issues.

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 14:24 UTC#23

Pioneer better have a firmware update out, and QUICK. None of this "in a year" bullshit. I don't know how they could screw up the bluetooth calls. I mean, my BTB200 was crystal clear, and then they go license technology from Parrot, supposedly the market leader, and now everything is crappy. So sick of Pioneer getting it so close to perfect, but the closer they seem to get, the bigger they F up.

Right now, I'm almost tempted to get another D3.

Hearing that the 90BT is having similar issues is a bit unnerving.

Is anyone else having the same issue where when your listening to the bluetooth, you're hearing a lot of little electronic pops and skips when dialing out, etc?

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 16:17 UTC#24

I completely agree, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do, but right now there's no way the F Series will satisfy me after being spoiled by the RNS-E in my Audi.

I wonder if trying a Parrot mic instead of the crappy Pioneer one would help with voice quality on the other end?

Posted Jun 08, 2008 · 18:07 UTC#25

Good thinking about the Mic! I mean, I can hear the other end as clear as day so who knows. Also some further observations:

-My unit always has either a "Out of Memory" error pop up or freezes/reboots when searching for POI. However, everything goes just fine if I search for a POI using category mode instead of using the "search" button at the bottom left of the POI screen. Does anyone else have a similar problem when using search. Like, my results come up, but as soon as I try to browse them or go into them further for info, after a few seconds, it either freezes up, reboots, or gives me the error and then freezes some more. Also, the GPS warning will only come up on startup if the Nav was your previous screen or you were in the process of naving somewhere.

Also, when going into album view for the iPod and looking at the tracks for each album, the tracks are always listed alphabetically instead of being in their proper orders. Can't figure that one out. Maybe it has something to do with using the PC usb cable.

If I can atleast get the POIs to not freeze, the ipod to work in order (Hopefully the Pio cable will fix, and the outgoing BT sound quality to improve, I'll be a mildly satisfied camper.
