could you try something for me and see if your unit works like this:

if you have an avic-z1 that can be bypassed, bypass it...

go to the map...

hit the talk button...

say 'call'....

say 'phonebook'...

where does the screen take you too?

the phone book?

mine doesn't..

it will only take you to the phone book, if your NOT in map mode....

if I do the above, while say in the AV mode with maybe FM listings...and press talk, then say 'call', then say 'phonebook', it goes to the phone book...

just wondering if their all working like that

I am having similar problems http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1476 I have found that if I push the buttons to the phone book first, than I can use it with Voice Command until I restart the Z1. If I just request phone book it goes back to the screen I was viewing before hitting the VC button.

My work around has been to start moving phone book info to my address book which is still not great but works a little better plus will accept more info about that contact. Since I'm a Verizon user I can't upload my contacts via Bluetooth anyway, so no big loss.

It's not a Verizon issue necessarily...it's the phone you are using from them. I have an LG VX8300 from them that uploaded just fine.

I just got off the phone with the pioneer helpless desk and the guy said this is the first he has heard of this problem. In my case, when I say telephone book, it goes to the map screen; no matter what screen I start with. I'm assuming it is a software glitch. He told me that I'm not saying Telephone Book correctly. My reply was can you understand it?
I have also tried Tel Book and Phone Book and still the same.
All other voice commands seem to work ok.
(Then again, the entire Bluetooth is worthless due to feedback on the phones used by other people.)

Ok, so I just went outside to double check everything on mine and here's what I got.

While on the Map screen I got all options when I hit the VC button...buuut...when I say "Call" then "Phone Book" it goes back to the Map without doing anything. When I'm on the AV screen and hit the VC button I only see "Call" and something else (I don't remember what now). So I say the same thing, "Call", "Phone Book" and I get "Please use the screen to proceed" and it brings up my phone book. I then tried "Call" and when that screen came up I said "Andria" and it started to dial...again only from the AV screen but it wouldn't work from the Map screen. I plan to just do what I said earlier and just put everything in my address book and when I get to the "Phone book" screen I'll just say "Registered contact".

As far as the bluetooth being useless, a week or two I was right there too but after taking the time to set it up right and play with the settings it works great now. As a matter of fact my wife said she didn't know I was using it today...very cool. Read what everyone else here is doing and find someone who will let you call them relentlessly while you make adjustments to the mic and volume, it really is worth it.
