Hi-res screen must look sweet. Is it still hard to see in sunlight for most folks? Cause the hi-res screen is pointless if the screen is dim all the time.

Yeah, it's not very bright, so in high sunlight it can be a bit hard to see. But that is more prevalent when viewing on screen menus and interfaces and the like. The video is a lot easier to see than the menus. And as far as clarity goes it's great. Twice the resolution as my old D3, which already looked pretty good.

I think the screen is awesome. i have no problem at all with sunlight. might be because of the location. the high resolution makes up for the small screen imo.

I hope JasonH chimes in cause he has a Mustang as do I. Guess it depends on the angle it's installed.

well its the glare off the screen. this was also at 8 in the morning with the sun beaming right through the rear window (no tint), and you can see what i mean in the picture under my posts.

I have a Kenwood 5120 right now and I can always see everything on the screen even with the sunlight.

weird...i had a clarion vrx765vd and a z series and there was no glare problem but this oneis bad with that

Actually 4x the resolution. With double the res on both horizontal and vertical, there are quadruple the number of pixels.

I've been waiting to see with my own eyes the F-series, and finally my local Fry's has the demo unit.

So I went there yesterday, they had the F700BT sitting side by side with DNX5120 and DNX7120.

The DNXs' screens looked bright and clear,

while the F700BT looked dimmed and dull (at max brightness = 10).

Considering Pioneer makes the best LCD TV (Pioneer Kuro),

I can't believe they came up with such, dare I say, an awful screen for the F-series.

I'm sure it looks much better at night, but like most people, I'm in my car in the morning and afternoon time, when the sun is up.

I really want the F-series in my car, great feature at a reasonable price.

But the screen quality makes it a no go.

Other issues (bluetooth, hangs, IPOD, etc) they can fix with software patch,

but I doubt they can magically make the screen brighter.

Just installed a F700 in a mustang 07 and the screen is indeed difficult to read. It's almost unreadable in daylight condition. it seems to me that the problem may be due to the display viewing angle. During installation (in the garage) it was quite legible since I was directly in front of the unit, but as soon I road tested it I realized I could not even read the map or the text during navigation.

Before installing the F700 I was using a garmin c330 on the dash and the screen was oriented exactly in my direction so the there was no glare, but definitely the LCD screen was better. I guess part of the "problem" is also the high resolution - i.e. smaller text. I'll test a little more at night to see the difference (I have the dim wire hooked up too)

Which Fry's was that?

Would an anti-glare film hinder the "touch" of the screen? Could be an inexpensive quick fix.

i cant open my sunroof during the day because i wouldn't be able to see the screen at all. the glare is terrible. Another pet peeve I have is the numbers are all light colors. the time and all the info for the destination are so small and white that you can read them. My Z2 didnt have any of these problems.

I have this same question.

Thanks for the info. I removed the dimmwer connection since it was apparently not working and I'll try tomorrow to see if it makes any difference. In the garage It did not seem to improve though.

Does the dim work for your fiancee ?

Pioneer needs a basic lesson is UI design. The screen is washed out a lot of the time, but worse than that is the lack of contrast in many different aspects. The clock on the navigation screen, the time and distance to destination and countless other aspects would be SO much more useable with a simple change of color to add more contrast between the background and foreground.

yep. u hafta adjust it twice, once with the headlights off and once wit the headlights on, and then when you switch between the 2 the brightness will change accordingly

Posted Jul 14, 2008 · 18:53 UTC#25

I feel it is too dim during the day and a little too bright at night. And I have my night setting at 0. I've actually been shutting the screen off at night.
