It should do the upgrade but once again not 100 percent sure. The way I see it is, why pay $250 for a disc upgrade and not even sure if it does the firmware while you can buy a pre-loaded Z3 drive for way cheaper.

Best

I'd agree...you'll save close to 50% if you buy one of Garrettomey's drives. He has received good feedback from users in this forum.

I just found out from Pioneer that they are supposed to release the 2008 maps for the z1 units in mid august. he did say that the dvd only updates the maps and does not update anything else in the unit.

It's already available in Europe, just installed it myself.

basically just an update for the maps, and some minor firmware changes (f.i. drivers-view no longer available)

did you install it yourself? is it straight forward to do?

Pioneer told me that it only updates maps, and does not update anything else. After you updated the maps, did you notice any difference in the performance of the z1?

Yes, I dit it myself. It consists of 2 DVDs, and you have to generate a password via the Pioneer website.

Mine was already at the level of the z2 (HD3 in Europe), so it was equivalent to updating a Z2 to Z3.

If you still have a Z1, then there are also some changes to the firmware..

Basically, you can see what the majority of the changes are from the update manual from HD1 to HD3 ( Z1 to Z2 in USA ):

click:update 700HD

Info on the update HD3 to HD3-II ( Z2 to Z3 in USA ) is here:

jwq, how long did the update take? I'm worried that it will drain out my car battery.

Or figure out how to do it yourself and save 96%.

Reason enough for me not to upgrade.

I'm not sure about the europe versions,

But the Z3 in the US still has the drivers view, not sure why the european versions took out the drivers view mode,

but the US Z3 still has it. Guess you guys are out of luck in europe.

Takes around 3 hours.....

However, you can just interrupt it at any time and continue later where it left off...

Only the firmware update should not be interrupted, and that only takes a couple of minutes...

Don't know why it was killed in Europe, however, I must say I never used it anyway....

Really? I have the driver's view activated only when upcoming turns come up if I'm being guided by the navi to a destination.

I love it because its helpful judging the distance of turns and the direction as opposed to OEM navi's that just have the close up view of the turn ,

I just personally found it was more difficult to judge the distance of upcoming turns. Withought the drivers view mode, I mistakenly turned too early.

IMHO.

Ah, thanks for the tip, I didn't know that you can interupt it during the update,

Its just towards the end when the firmware is being updated I need leave it on.

Thanks! Can't wait to upgrade my Z1 to a Z3!

Why are the maps only updated to May 2007?

Posted Jul 30, 2008 · 00:52 UTC#20

what's all the big hype for a money grab?

The 2007 Map update was a complete waste of money. The Teleatlas data was more accurate in the installed data that comes with the unit.

On what model are you talking about. Because the upgrade to the z3 includeds maps from Feb 2008.

Posted Aug 01, 2008 · 16:29 UTC#22

i think the maps are updated through march 2008, not feb, both in getting a pre-loaded drive or by the dvd's from pioneer which isnt out yet :)

Correct, meant to say March, but not sure what he means by 2007 maps, unless he is talking about an z2.

yea i'm not sure either. i cant wait until the the new map updates come out. it will finally be nice to see the actual roads instead of it thinking i'm driving in the middle of nothing .lol
