I was reading another forum that there are rumors of a adapter being made for this issue...

Otherwise, would this Kensington adapter work?

http://us.kensington.com/html/11205.html

It has a pass through so you can plug in the pioneer connector...

gonna order one up and see if it does work...

This is the charger/bypass I was using my factory HU to charge my iPhone 3G (Scion Pioneer Audio is FireWire based apparently), so I purchased this, and an ipod extension cable from http://www.cablejive.com/ (who are also working on a charging converter just like the kensington unit is), and now I have a 6ft longer iPod cable, and it charges my iPhone 3G, all works just like factory.

I use this with my new D3 as well, so I can confirm it does work, and greatly reccomend the charger for a simple fix, also, check for it on amazon, I scored it there for 15$, it's 30 from kensington..

this apapter DID NOT WORK FOR ME on MY AVIC-Z1 (updated to Z3).....

the only way that it charged was pluging in a mini-usb charger to the adapter as shown in the pictures.

update....

after using it for a few minutes I noticed that if I unplug the mini USB charger it will continue charging the iPhone as expected.

But it will NOT charge the iPhone unless I plug in the mini-usb charger... once is plugged-in I can unplug it and it keeps charging...

anyone get the adapter to work on a D3?

Posted Nov 21, 2008 · 21:18 UTC#38

got it (the passport) to work onmy N5 with my Ipod nano 16g

At first it did not work... I had to power down the N5 and power back up. Works flawless now... Much better to be able to charge my Ipod from the headunit.

I also verified that it works on my sons Kenwood in his car.

with the passPort can you listen to internet radio through the iPhone?

Will someone update me on the functioning of the adaptor from various suppliers and the iPhone + D3. In particular will it in fact charge AND allow video to be played on the D3.

Thanks

the actual description of the PASSport says that it doesnt support the pioneer cables... cancelling my order now... no love

no such monster. the scosche part works with the D3 as intended.(not direct from touchscreen anyways) you can charge an iphone/touch and use it for audio.

Has anyone tried out any of these newer adapters and gotten them to work? And why can we not seem to get a straight answer on here about wether or not the Scoche passport works with the AVIC-D3 or not. Some people seem to indicate that it does, but others say no.

If someone out there has gotten it to charge their iphone 3G or newer generation ipod, please let us know and tell us how you did it. I am not looking for video functionality, I just want the music playthrough ability and to keep my phone charged at the same time.

So has anyone found a good solution to this problem? I was hoping that the Ridax would be the solution. Anyone?

From what i understand about the Scoche is that it won't work with some of the iPod adapters you plug into the head unit it's not really the head unit its self causing the problem. this is from the Scoche website: "Notes:

- Not compatible with select Pioneer head-units that use the CD-iB100 or CD-i200 iPod to IP-Bus adapter." I have the 100 and it didn't work with me Z2.

I too cannot get the Scosche to work with my 700BT for charging. Music works fine. Don't know about video since I don't have any yet. I too am looking for a solution.

I tried this adapater with my Ipod Touch 2G and my AVIC Z1 and it works great!

I bought the smaller/cheaper version that does not have the USB port.
