I dont wanna be a troll or anything ,but I know alot of people are caught up in the same spot I was

8120/90bt/JVC/maybe Eclipse

I bought the 8120 for a great deal.

Well I have had this unit for a few days but I allready love it.

You might say love is to stong of a word....your wrong.

When you buy a Double din you usually get subpar EQ, no time alignmet, really no good sound control.

This unit has a 13band EQ control for the front and 13 bands for the rear.

Thats where it starts. You have time alignment, You can choose what size speakers you have . 6/12/24 db crossovers for EACH speaker. You can also choose the level of output from each speaker.

I have had the Pioneer D3, Eclipse 5510 and the Panasonic Strada. This is way beyond those.

The nav is Garmin so its very well laid out. I figured out most of the functions in about 20 min. You can change the voice of the nav. It has text to speech and will say all the names of the streets. The Pioneer,Eclipse, and Panasonic said some names but not all. I live in a very rural town and even those streets are said. The POIs are great.

The price is a bit high but if you want a sweet double din with great nav, its worth it.

If anyone wants a specific shot, feel free to ask

blazeplacid,

Thanks for the shots! I have just installed the DNX8120 in my car over the weekend and have been loving this unit as well.

The graphics may not be as flashy as some of the other units out there but the amount of features far out weighs the competition.

I have a question for you, what is that icon of a car on your navi shot? Is that something you added or is that part of the navi/poi??

From the specs I've seen the buttons are blue and can't be changed... could be wrong though.

dnx doesnt have that feature, an led mod would be required to change the button colors

thanks, a pity really, the clarion doesn't have this either, may have to stick with the original plan with the 900

Posted Aug 12, 2008 · 13:58 UTC#16

looked over the manual no way to change it I guess

Honestly, button color should be one of the features that's lowest on the list of deciding factors for which unit to buy... but that's just in my case, I guess different people have different priorities.

_shrug_ i have red interior lights as well and the blue from the z3 just looked out of place.

Yay, i got mine installed last weekend and it's quite nice. I was to get f90bt from al-eds and end up getting dnx-8120 for pretty much the same price. Al-eds f90 price + tax = dnx8120. The only issue i sometime face is with nav voice stuttering when there is a screen update going on. It doesn't happen all the time and I'm not sure if it is text-to-speech or something. I'm going to update Garmin firmware and try to see if i can update 2009 maps too to see if it helps. One other gripe i have is with Nav volume which is fixed in the setting. It does not vary/stay with regular volume setting. And I also miss the auto volume with the OEM system since it increases the volume when the road noise increase in the cabin. Now I need to get headrest monitors for the kids and use the dual zone thingy. :)

you can fix the nav voice volume

you can also select if you want the nav voice out of the front left/right/ or both

the dnx5220bt does have it... (and is cheaper in the uk then f900bt)

that may be. but he wanted to know about the dnx8120 which doesnt have that feature

How quick is the ipod adapter for the unit? Can you browse/change songs pretty quickly? What about when album art is displayed?

Posted Aug 12, 2008 · 23:33 UTC#24

is VERY fast, about as fast as a stand alone ipod

art work on or off its very fast

Are there any bugs with the 8120 that stand out? What is the boot up time like? Does the nav system prompt/notify you the appropriate number of times?

I admit I just got the f900bt, but it may be worth it considering how rare it is to actually find some good screen shots.

I assume you are very happy with it? It does look pretty nice, and considering the much larger screen and all the other features.

No voice recognition though right?
