I have an iphone and every contact showed up 3 times (mobile #, home # and work # ) but the display only shows the name so I couldn't see which is which (or what is what )

What do you change to add multiple phone entries to one contact?

nothing, I change the names e.g. Peter Jones (M) Peter Jones (H) , .....

The unit gave me 2 the same names so I had to guess which was which

I have an HTC Touch (Sprint) and I am having a problem syncing my contacts, so I was wondering if someone could upload a file of what it would look like if contacts synced correctly into this folder so I can just manually add all my contacts in. Just post here, PM me, MSN me [tycoonbob@Live], whichever. But it would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Treo 700Wx (Sprint). What I had to do was in the contacts edit page, under "Categories" make sure the "CarKit" box is checked.

Following up on the post about the Touch and the F90BT- I just installed my F90BT and tried to import my phonebook into it. The phone is paired but when I go to select a contact and beam it from my HTC Touch it says "To beam, select a device" but the Pioneer doesn't show up, hence no import. Any ideas on what is happening here? Thx!

BTW - how do i get to USERDATA to do these entries?

I got a F900BT and a HTC S710 phone. I was able to transfer my phone book without any problems. Like paradroid I also had 2 - 3 times the same name.

To get to the \USER\UserData\PHONEDATA you need to follow the steps on:

Then I modified the file "PhoneBook1783b838a1.db" with sqliteexpert and added (H), (M) and (O). You even can delete contacts that you don't want in your F900BT. Keep in mind that when you change contacts in your phone and do a transfer again with your phone; all modification are lost in the db file and F900BT.

Do you have the 2.0 update installed? It adds the type of number to the end of the listing, so manually editing your phonebook for that reason should no longer be required.

Yes, I did install the 2.0 update and it didn't added the type of number to the end of the listing. So the manually editing is still needed.

Hmm, did you try re-uploading your phonebook afterwards, and what phone are you using?

Yes, I did reload my phonebook and everything was overwritten. I have a HTC S710 with WM 6

How do I save/export my .db file in SQLite so that I can upload the modified file to my unit?

Click the save button (it looks like a disk).

For anyone else who may end up needing to do this, I couldn't find an sql script to automate this so I downloaded the Expert Trial and saved the db out as a .csv. Then you can take this into a text editor (I used dreamweaver) and 'Find and Replace' the various ()- marks to be left with digits only. Reimport this back into your file with the 'Delete Existing Info' checked and you're done.

Has anyone been able to successfully do this on an F500BT?

I went through all the steps and when it's completed and I reboot I get a no contacts found screen. Now I did delete entrys and changed the names around because it keeps importing them backwards from my blackberry. I did export to excel to re-edit the entry numbers then re-imported to the database editor.

personally I hate having shareware on my computer, with the nags for buying the product. The SQLite Expert, Professional edition is the one that has the useful feature however of being able to import and export and is not free, unlike the Personal edition, which is freeware.

However, you can import without the SQLite Expert Professional edition GUI interface, albeit using DOS commands. Here's a step by step on importing a comma delimted file with all your phone contacts. There should be 4 columns to every row - a unique ID, contact name, phone number, and a number which I believe is used for indexing in the contact screen interface (ABCDE, FGHIJ, etc):

1) install SQLite3 and put the file somewhere. For example, C:\Program Files\SQLite:

2) open up a DOS window (Start, Run, cmd)

3) navigate to the directory where you installed the program, i.e C:\Program Files\SQLite.

4) Run this: SQLite3 path:PhoneBookXXXXX.db

where path: is the path where your db file is, and XXXXX is the 10 digit hex string of the .db file that you extracted out. Example: SQLite C:\My Documents\PhoneBook1a1b1c1d1e.db

5) at the sqlite> prompt, type in:

.separator ,

(I think the default separator is already a comma, but just in case)

6) at the next sqlite> prompt, type in:

import FILE Phonebook

where FILE is where your comma-separated file is located. For example:

import C:\My Documents\ContactList.csv Phonebook

7) Verify the file went in correctly:

select * from Phonebook;

I finally got around to editing my phonebook data for my iPhone 3G and now the voice dialing works and names show on the screen.

For those that use Firefox they have an SQLite add on that makes it really easy to edit the phonebook.db

Small problem with contacts, whenever I received a call it doesn't display the name instead just their phone number even if the phone number is already stored in the stereo. Is it supposed to be like this? I have a Nokia E51. Thanks.

For those who are interested, the dwType column controls multiple numbers for each contact. Specifically:

0 = General (only use this if you only have one number for that particular contact)

1 = Home

2 = Work

3 = Mobile

OK I have a 9800bt. I edited my contacts using sqlite expert. My caller ID works but no voice recognition. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ive got a question - i have one phone that connects to the 700bt without issue - all of the contacts appear to be properly named and edited

i have another phone that does NOT connect correctly

is there a way i can copy the contacts database from the first phone into the database of the second phone (so that the contacts show up the same for both phones)? does that question make any sense?

i dont know very much about this database editing - so pardon my "noobishness"
