Do you know where they installed the XM tuner box in your vehicle? I would double check to make sure that the IP-Bus cable and the IP-Data cable are installed into the right ports on the tuner. (Make sure they DID install the IP-Data cable! Without it, you will not get NavTraffic data!)

Oh, one thing...It keeps saying that it is "updating"..Says so on the screen itself in the "map" mode and also under XM information.

Does this mean anything?

XM Radio works just fine.

I do know where they installed it in my car....But, it is way beyond my scope to take apart the dash and glove box to look for this cable. Its a VW Touareg and its a bit too sophisticated for my skills as a car installer.

Thanks,

Steve

PS: Does "pinging" through the XM site help at all?

Thanks,

Steve

I hate it when people have a problem then don't let everyone who may read about it later on if it ever got fixed or not. Soooo, to be fair, here's the situation regarding the LA Nav Traffic outage.

The ver 1.2 disc that should have been sent by Pioneer months and months previous was the source of the problem the entire time. XM changed their signal and the 1.0 disc was outdated to use Nav Traffic.

So, the Nav Traffic is 'On' again, and we are now back to useless outdated information that has no time stamps and hardely ever is accurate in any way shape or form.

If you are in the So Cal area, you can use your mobile phone wap browser and get every single road sensor for every single freeway in real time (under 1 minute delay), including individual speed for main lanes and the carpool lanes too. In addition, the free mobile phone verson actually gives time stamps and gives way more details when describing accidents, such as 'Accident @ 1:35PM, Ambulance Responding". The so called wonderful NavTraffic MAY say 'Accident' duration for next 15 minutes, but without saying the original time, that's useless information.

On the whole, its a waste of money, but it looks cool, so if you have the coins, and due to the occasional usefulness of XM , I keep it active, even though Sirius is way more useful to me.

For example, they (XM) lies so hard core about their services, and brag about Pac 10 sports ... 'Get every Pac 10 Game', except, today is one of the biggest most important Pac10 games of the entire year UCLA v USC and guess what, its NOT on XM, but IS on Sirius.

No wonder XM has offices in DC near K street. They choose to spend their coins to whomever keeps them from going to prision for such incredible fraud in their advertising. I also like the XM Online service that says, listen to all the sports, and news ,,, etc ,e tc , of which none of that exists except some talk shows, but NO sports at all online as its illegal to do so.

And, as for all you folks you claim to like to look at logos , how come about 1/2 the logos on the XM receiver dont' get updated either? So what's the point of the logos if they don't work?

Opps, I went off topic LOL ...

I just wanted to let everyone who was reading this post to know the nav traffic works if you have the 1.2 disc and or newer.

So you hate Pioneer, you hate XM? I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, but why not just sell your unit while it still has some value before the D3 comes out? You can put the money towards a nice Eclipse or something that you might prefer better.

You make a very good point and I do appreciate that very much.

The reason is simple. Because the install quality at this point wins out. It's a sweet install and very clean, right down to having figured out well before what is now common knowledge how to connect up the factory steering wheel buttons, and even keeping the OnStar integrated and working 100%, etc.

I don't 'hate' anyone. But, no one likes to get taken advantage of and hopefully you won't ever have the need to rely on any of these two companies for anything important.

Also, as I have both Sat services, I get the best of both services, in which there are definite distinct value each one has that the other does not. That being said, its simply wrong to advertise things that are 100% not true, such as 'All the ACC or PAC10' games, and the largest game so far isn't even on , but IS on the other service who doesn't even brag about it.

And, it's all relative too, as when I get in the mood to listen to those club/house channels, the XM ones are pretty cool for sure. Same if someone's a baseball fan or Cricket or Antarctic Penguin Tossing.

Okay, so now I'm going too far, but really, if it's not MLB, what's left?

Most important is that if anyone has not ever had a moderate problem needing any customer service from either of these companies, and the products are working without the need for help, and got a good deal on the unit, etc. there is worse one can do.

If I were to do it today all over again with this sort of money, it would be the Alpine with Sirius Nav Traffic service, although the Eclipse is a good system too. Otherwise, I'll just go with the newest technologies announced at CES this week from one of the other players.

I'm glad that the Nav Traffic works well for you in the NY area. And, perhaps the service works better there? I could see that happening, but the one thing I hate is to hear that its not current in LA due to the source of info being at fault, as that's not the case at all.

If you want an example, use your wap mobile phone and visit myabc7.com , then click traffic , then select Los Angeles, then select 405 South. Then, you will see a list of actual speeds that are literarily every single exit on the highway, even for both the HOV and regular lanes separate. All for free and all in very quickly updated time. XM will say, its' the source that's the cause of the delayed info, and that's simply not true.

Just curious, have you had the opportunity to set up let's say a roundtrip from your area to a place like Atlantic city and back , and set up the route as a round trip (one single full route to get there and then back again)? Maybe they systems just work different in each zone and that's why we have different experiences?

Hey, anything’s possible.

Of course the one thing we can certainly agree is that I would love if you could FTP me a NY PIZZA about now, as LA still can't figure that one out, ever LOL ...

Thanks again for your thoughts, you are always a great help to everyone on this board, and it is really appreciated very much!!!
