**Edit**

Ok, I just gave this a shot and used a paper clip to push the switch to the right like shown in the picture. You can feel the switch slide over. It was really easy and took 2 mins. Make sure you take a good look at the picture so you know to slide it thru the top slot where the red line goes.

Although it looks right, I'm not positive that that is the right direction.

Even if you are able to flip it, I'm sure pioneer has a way of telling if the switch has been flipped, because nothing stops people from buying a new void sticker off ebay and putting it back on after pulling the switch off.

I got it to work see first post.

I think the stickers are different on the n2 and n3. Pioneer figured out we were heating them up so they tried to get slick and put out a different sticker. As far as the switch goes, I would think you should be able to also pull the switch back into position if you ever had to send it in for warranty work. I really wish I had an n3 that I could dick with. I am about positive this can be done. you will have to put a tiny L bend in the end like a very tiny hook. Probabbly after inserting the wire a short way in the slot you may have to bend it slightly to get the right reach. It would be like trying to unlock a car door. Someone who has as n3 needs to figure this out and make some jimmys.

Well, I edited my first post because I got it to work today, so now you all can use it as reference.

Glad to hear my idea worked for someone. I think you should be able to put a tiny hook on the end of the paperclip and pull the switch back into position for warranty work. Glad it worked out for you. A paper clip beats the hell ofut of a $20 new sticker.

I was able to heat and peel back the sticker on my N3 with no problems whatsoever :) Be careful though, it is REAL fragile!

HEY GUYS!!! I was able to move the switch over without peeling the sticker back. I'm a Critical Care Technician in New York so I took a Hypodermic needle and I bent it like in the picture and I felt the switch move perfectly!!!! I suggest everyone try this way first before peeling!

Do you still need to ground the parking brake wire as well as sliding the switch to the right?

Yes you do

Ok I have a stupid question, but I am installing my own AVIC-N3. When you say I need to ground the parking brake, do you mean connecting the Light Green wire from the display unit to the ground wire of the parking brake, using the wire tap(clamp) instead of connecting it to the power supply side of the parking brake? I want to make sure I do this correctly. Thanks!

Hook the light green wire to the same place as you hook the black ground wire.

I got it now, thanks!

Hey im new here just kinda learning about the N3 which i just bought what is that switch for?
Posted Dec 08, 2006 · 14:37 UTC#15
When you flip the switch it bypasses the safety lockout that prevents you from adjusting the nav destination and watch DVD movies when the car is in motion.

No shit thanks for the quick response man!

I got my N3 from Circuit City. I was really pissed off about the "safety feature" that disables the viewing of video and makes you put the parking break on. I found this site and found the ability to disable this "feature" however the technicians at CC told me that they had somebody else do it and the unit totally failed after two months. THey told me that by flipping the switch you are by-passing the gimbals on the Nav System and it can cause serious damage to the unit. Is this true???? I really like the unit. It has a great IPod Interface and a great XM interface. The Nav is aweasome except for the safety feature and there are some accuracy issues with the direction.

I also here a small motor running for a long perirod after start up of the unit. Is this normal?

I dont know what you mean by gimbals, but I have not had any adverse effects. I dont see why it would, being Pioneer designed that switch there themselves. People have actually had to solder two points together on the N1's and N2's to bypass the unit, and some people here have been using their bypassed units for years. I think Pioneer put the easy switch in the N3 to comply with federal law, but making it easy for the individual to bypass the unit themselves. Im guessing that when people realize how easy the bypass would be, they would want to purchase the N3, hence more sales for them.

As for the buzzing motor sound, I believe that is the DVD drive accessing the Nav disc.

The reason that Pioneer has built a bypass into every one of thier units is so they do not alienate the marine or RV community. I have a buddy at Pioneer service and apparently, ther will never be a complete lockout of any aftermarket unit they manufacture, just for that reason. OEM is a completely different story, though. Flipping the switch on an N3 is simply setting it to what he called a "marine and testing mode". Not every one of these units ends up in the dash of a soccer-mom's Expedition.

Just wanted to say that this works perfectly. I went to an installer for some last minute tweaks because I was stuck. He got things working and said now, let's bypass this. I was like no no! I already did! and he said, but the stickers still on. I said I know, trust me I did already. he's like no way and frickin pulls off the sticker..... and then said "sh*t! how'd you do that!?!" told him I'm not telling since I told you not to pull off the sticker.

time for an ebay replacement sticker!
