Those of you with PocketPCs may remember TCPMP as the best video player on the web!

I am currently working on getting it to run perfect with the launcher :D

Still wondering why TCPMP and the stock video player is having problems playing my Futurama MP4.

Posted Mar 02, 2009 · 04:56 UTC#2

if you can do this, then i will love you.

p.s. but what if i already do?

It seems to work just fine in the test mode and I some how managed to get it to launch instead of contacts from the dash screen.

It seems to play my RE Degenerated Xvid 700Mb file noticeably smoother better than the stock video player, but not perfect. It only gives audio and a frame when paused on my MP4 of Futurama Wild Green Yonder 600Mb file, this is when the stock video player only gives me sound and blackness.

I am finding myself a bit disappointed in the video quality and getting the buyers recourse for not spending the extra $200 for the DVD function.

I haven't yet played video from my iPhone, but I hope it is better than the album covers.

I did get a bit cocky and tried to get PDAMills' Snails running but it would crash at the launch screen.

I am hoping to work towards a future with a modified dash menu that will automatically provide icons for new WinCE based programs (TCPMP,TomTom) Maybe even Internet explorer working on a bluetooth tethered cell phone :P

Will TCPMP support FLAC files? I'm looking for a hack or some other way to play FLAC files on my F90BT.

Thanks,

Ron

Indeed it will.

Update I have begun working with Coreplayer 1.30, this is commercial version of TCPMP. It decodes video especially MP4 about 100X better. The down side to this is it isn't free, so in order to use it, legally you will need to buy it... Ahaha JK JK.

Sounds cool! One other thing I was wondering... I know the F90BT supports AAC, but I don't know what profiles of AAC it supports out of the box.

I'm sure it supports LC-AAC which is what Apple uses for the iPod. But does it support HE-AAC or HEv2-AAC?

And if it doesn't, will the TCPMP support the two HE profiles?

(I have the F90BT, but have not installed it yet, so I haven't been able to test the HE-AAC or HEv2-AAC profiles).

Oh, and one more thing, does the F90BT support AC3 in a AVI or MP4 container, or must I transcode the audio in all my AC3/Divx movies to MP3/Divx? Would the TCPMP support AC3?

By MP4, I assume you mean Advanced Simple Profile (ASP), not Advanced Video Coding (AVC). Would the F90BT have enough processing power to do MPEG-4 AVC?

Thanks for your patience answering all these questions, and I look forward to your release.

Ron

I don't see anything on their site saying Coreplayer supports AAC or AC3, however I know TCPMP supported both AAC and AC3.

I'm sure if TCPMP supported it, that Coreplayer would as well.

BTW, I am currently using the LeetLauncher with this, it launches TCPMP and solitaire :P

I am also looking into getting something like PDANet installed and using my iphone as bluetooh modem for my Avic... Crazy right?!

To be able to jump on the internet using one of those SD wi-fi cards would also be awesome! Imagine your passenger being able to check your e-mail, weather and news while on the road using blutooth, or while parked near some access point using wi-fi (would save you $ not to have to use your phone).

I took a look at core player 1.3 and it seems to support every format and container I'd use except for AC3 (Dolby Digital) and DTS. Imagine if it did support AC3/DTS and the F90BT was able to downmix 5.1 >> 4.1. My primary codecs and containers I have are:

AC3 or DTS Audio and DivX/Xvid video in AVI container.

AC3 or DTS Audio and DivX/Xvid video in MKV container.

AC3 or DTS Audio and H.264 video in MKV container.

MP3 Audio and DivX/Xvid video in a AVI container.

Lately, I only use AC3 or DTS Audio and H.264 video in MKV container. I have only a few files with DTS, so it is not THAT important, but AC3 is a must in my opinion. I'll surf the core player forum for more details on AC3.

Retell, I found out about the AC3 format on the Core Player forums.

AC3 will be supported via a plug-in for the Core Player and is included with the Core Player Pro. They are working on it right now. Check-out:

So, problem solved!

Awesome news about AC3 man, thanks! I am currently using 1.1.1, about to try 1.25 in about an hour. Currently my trials are limited to what has been cracked, because I'm not about to pay for something that won't work. The only bug I am seeing is no audio which is weird because when I run menu.exe I get full audio.

If we find a USB or SD wifi card we could use it with pdanet and an iPhone or Treo and get Internet anywhere! LOL

I think you need to upgrade to Core Player 1.30 to be able to use AC3. The infrastructure of Core Player 1.25 and older is not designed for plugins. Besides that, there are several issues that have been fixed. I will PM you with help.

Posted Mar 05, 2009 · 09:34 UTC#12

Couldn't get 1.25 to install :(

Because the AVIC has built in bluetooth that is recognized by CE. I am sure there is a way to tether it without extra hardware, it is just that usually the device running CE is the modem connected to like a laptop. Where as a cell phone is modem and the AVIC is the "laptop".

The only problem with TCMP is that you wont get the full speaker sound output in your car. Actually any windows ce apps will not be able to do it. The reason is that the actual stereo output on the pioneer deck are produced on a seperate unit out of the windows ce base environment. I could be wrong, let me know if you are able to do it.

Posted Mar 05, 2009 · 14:12 UTC#15

When I first ran TCPMP I was able to receive sound, how ever no version has given me sound since.

What was changed on the IGo8 to produce sound?

Posted Mar 05, 2009 · 14:41 UTC#16

Apparently there is an unofficial build of TCPMP! It is like a bastard between TCPMP & Coreplayer, will try it out in a few hours.

I actually already started on this TCMP project with source code. If you would like to continue the modification I can put it up for public. My project should support sound for the Pioneer Deck. I made some minor modification to make it car friendly, however I stopped this project due to the fact that you can not output sound for all speakers in teh car, Only 2 front speaker will work. Also another reason, the processing speed of the pioneer deck will not be able to play some high def video however, by default the back end player of the pioneer deck will able to play it flawlessly since it is an actual hardware decoder in the backend unit. I feel that it is pointless to use tcmp when you actually have a better video player built in. The TCMP project i was using should be able to play all popular format, just need to finish interfacing for car use.

That sounds interesting. As mentioned earlier, All I'm looking for is MKV and AVI container support, MPEG-4 ASP and AVC video codec cupport, and AC3, AAC, FLAC and MP3 audio codec support.

I'd be one happy camper if we can make that a reality. 8)

Posted Mar 06, 2009 · 07:53 UTC#19

Yes, i believe the source code I was working with support all that. It is the last version when it was free and some mod for the support of all those format. Like I said there are some catches in using TCMP. (slow,no full sound)

Posted Mar 06, 2009 · 19:07 UTC#20

TCPMP .84 supports all that as well and runs everything as good as Coreplayer.

I'm sorry Leetcoder, but TCPMP seems far superior than the integrated player.

Every video except for my iPod videos are extremely choppy and sluggish.

Posted Mar 06, 2009 · 20:42 UTC#21

trust me i tested some high quality video and the deck were able to handle it whereas the tcmp didn't (choppy). Having rear speaker+front+pioneer sound module > than only front speaker using tcmp.

Posted Mar 06, 2009 · 21:38 UTC#22

The stock couldn't handle a 600mb MP4 cartoon (1 frame every 2 seconds) While TCPMP was giving me about 20 frames per second.

Posted Mar 16, 2009 · 07:09 UTC#23

Any progress with this project?

Posted Mar 16, 2009 · 18:24 UTC#24

I am investigating the sound issue, I would like to know what is being changed on for these "sound fixes" on TomTom and iGo8 to get the full sound working.

Posted Mar 18, 2009 · 03:37 UTC#25

I think leetcoder modified the igo8.exe file because I tried upgrading to a new version and replaced the igo8.exe and the sound was gone.
