Pioneer site says no gracenote updates for Z3?

I was looking at the Z3 on the Pioneer website and it says under the Documents tab :

"The Gracenote CDDB database update is currently not compatible for the AVIC-Z3."

Does that mean that the last update that we have on there is the best we are going to have?

I have a Z1 with Garrets Z3 upgrade drive.

Thanks,

John

I don't know what the deal is with the Z3, but in Europe Pioneer had the same with the equivalent European version (HD3-II). Beginning of the year they supplied a software update via the website to solve the issue, so I would immagine the same thing is possible with the Z3....

See: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/support/support/upgrade/AVICHD3II.html

I also think it was/is only a problem with "native" Z3s, not Z1/Z2 updated to Z3

Would the European update even work on the Z3? I'd try it but my wife will not be happy if her Z3 is hosed! :)

Somebody else tried it, and actually, if you have an updated Z1/Z2 to Z3 (which you have), then you can just use the US gracenote update, without having to update the firmware....

It seems the Gracenote prblem is only with native Z3s...

I updated the CCDB yesterday from the PIONEER Website update for the Z2 onto my native Z1 which has been updated to Z3 AVIC without any issues at all.

I went to the Canadian Pioneer site, and there is an update listed for the Z3 so that you can install the Gracenote CDDB update. I installed the Pioneer update and then followed up with the Gracenote update and it works like a charm. The update is said to have been made available in February. Hope this helps.

Nice. Canadians should beta test everything for the rest of us :D

The latest(most updated) gracenote database is the one thats included in Pioneer's CNDV-800HD DVD Map upgrade Disc.

So basically, if you have a Z3, thats the most updated version.

Although they are due to release a new one for this year.

Looks like they abandoned the Z3 series updates.

Latest Gracenote update on the European site is June 2009....

No workie for updated z1/2 units. The download is missing the INF file that tells the units which version the update is...you will get "Version read failed" message.

Posted Jun 29, 2009 · 22:11 UTC#14

You don't need the update for upgraded Z1/Z2 units, gracenote will update just fine. This is ONLY for native Z3 units.

I know, but I would like the June Gracenote update as I've bought a lot of CDs since January that are not in the database...

So I installed the firmware update and it worked flawlessly, showing 3.100400 as my version. However, the GraceNote update still won't work. Sits at the CD-ROM Inserted screen and never goes past. Has anyone else tried the update? I've burned multiple times in various formats between ISO, Joliet, and ISO/Joliet (level 1 and level 2) and at speeds as low as 4x with NO luck.

I have tried hard installing the June gracenote update, but it fails. Someone here said that the gracenote files could be copied directly onto an unlocked drive, but I haven´t gotten it working.

Can anyone with a succesful update post their .INF file? (maybe that´s what it takes to get it working).

I think the Gracenote version posten on the US site is still actually an older version, and the version posted on the European site is missing one or two files so it's not being recognised, and still has not been fixed....

OK.

MAN, Pioneer is slow.. Maybe I should be glad they are still in business..

I just sent an email via the European site asking about the missing file(s) in the update.... let's see if they respond ...

If nobody complains, it seems they won't notice themselves.... :?

The file on the European site is for an upgraded/fixed Euro Z3 (I forget the model number) and it does not require the extra files for updating the gracenote database. The native Z3 models require a different method of update and it was fixed with a Z3 update. I have tired adding those files to it, adding the DB files to an older update, etc. and it still says "Failure to verify version information". Just gonna have to wait until pioneer provides the US pre-Z3 updates.

Don't think so.... :| That's what I have (European HD1 upgraded to HD3-II, and additionally even updated with the Gracenote fix, but it does not "see" the gracenote disc with the June '09 version....

It worked fine with the older Gracenote updates in the past, both the US and european versions (there's no difference,)....

Like I said, it's just missing the inf file.....

Posted Jul 10, 2009 · 21:47 UTC#23

Yes, I think so. I believe you misunderstood my post. Mines an upgraded Z3 as well. The problem is with the native Z3 units (bought as a Z3). If you have the Euro equivalent of a Z1/2 and did the software upgrade to a Z3 the gracecnote update with the .inf and .txt will work on it and the June will not. A Z3 unit, sold as a Z3 WILL update with the provided Euro update sans the inf and txt files. A Z1/2 upgraded to a Z3 still requires the Gracenote update with the INF and TXT files.

If you have a pre-Z3 unit and update it with the Z3 gracenote fix it won't make a difference because the update is for NATIVE Z3 hardware ONLY.

Posted Jul 11, 2009 · 18:07 UTC#24

Actually I think something still isn't right. I've got a native Z3 and even with the update it still just sits there saying CD-ROM inserted. I called Pioneer and their tech support was useless.

That sounds like a writing program issue. What program did you use to write the info?
