f90bt or x910bt? That is the question...

I'm pretty sure the F90BT was the only head unit at the time that offered that much for around $1000. All the other units with that feature set would have cost $1500+.

The other companies have finally caught up and put together attractive $1000 head units this year. However, I'd still be happier spending $700 (I actually got mine for $500, yeah for live.com cash back!) on a F90BT and $300 on accessories (like an HD radio module, an iPod, etc).

Bottom line: Navi works, BT works, dvd works, and I definitely got more than I paid for.

Bottom line for me is NAVI sucks, BT REALLY SUCKS, I dont watch DVDs while driving, and I also got more than I paid for! (MORE PAIN that is!)

Of course Pioneer had a "better" unit on paper than others did when it was released, it was rushed and there was zero QA. Remember the 1.13 software version?! Holy crap it was bad.

Yup it was terrible, but now we have these boards and 2.0 (3.0 soon), so the unit runs as advertised.

I regret getting the X910. I've had it about a week and already had it freeze up on me a couple times while driving on the highway. While driving I've had to set my car in neutral, shut off the car, then start it back up to reboot it. I've never had to do this with another nav. It's finicky and doesn't like to much button pushing. I've also had problems trying to sync my iphone 3gs contacts into it (requiring a reboot). The slow bootup and the even slower BT syncing with my iphone is unacceptable. I figured they'd get the kinks out after the F series. I was wrong.

*Edit: Actually I did a little more browsing on this forum and found a firmware update. I'm running 3.000300 and 3.010100 is out. We'll see how well it improves my experience.

Yo Itchy, let me know how it goes with the new firmware update. I'm supposed to get my x910 installed tomorrow.

Bootup time and BT connectivity are about the same. I did try transferring my phone book after the update from my iphone 3GS and that worked well without crashing this time. I'll drive around later and see how much better it performs.

After you get your unit installed, you'll probably need to do the update as well since the firmware just came out on 7/6. Your unit was probably manufactured well before then.

So I am looking at the JVC KW-NT1, or the JVC KW-NX7000BT. Any advice on these?

That means nothing to me. Pioneer is garbage in my eyes so brand name recognition is worthless.

Eclipse AVN726E is a bit more than I wanted to spend but looks nice.

Got my x910bt installed today and it runs flawlessly (knocking on wood). Yes the boot time is a bit long 30-40 secs. but that's not too bad and since I listen to alot of radio it doesn't really bother me since music from fm starts up right away. I've only had it one day and I haven't even done the new firmware update but so far I think I made the best possible choice. $1100 installed with my steering wheel controls, onstar module and e-brake bypass. Can't beat that with a stick. Can't speak much about the f90bt but so far I can recommend x910bt. No lag, no bugs, and does what I want it to do. Going to do the firmware update tonight and let you guys know how it goes.

tacoma, jvc and eclipse is crap. If you don't like pioneer your next best thing is the kenwood 9140 but get ready to pay at least double.

didn't you give up on your avic? why are you still here? do you enjoy whining that much?

I hear that the Kenwood 9140 is just as buggy. I have used Eclipse in the past and it was a solid unit. My grip was that you had to buy all kind of add-ons Ipod, bt, ect. But I think they have resolved that with their new units.
