Can anyone tell me how I can fix this? I have the setting in maps or navigation set to auto not day. When I go to navigation status it says ilumination is off. What could be wrong?

illumination wire not hooked up ? Should react to lights on/off ....

Posted Aug 02, 2009 · 16:06 UTC#3

I have it hooked up to the orange and white illumination wire. Any one that has the Z110bt installed, does he illumination work?

I am just trying to ilimate that there is a bug before I dig deeper. Mabel someone knows of a way I can test it also.

do u have the lights turn up to max on the dash cause mine is the same way the need to be dim on the dash for the day/night mode to switch

Posted Aug 02, 2009 · 18:45 UTC#5

I have tried dimming it but no luck. Always show the lights are off.

Posted Aug 02, 2009 · 19:07 UTC#6

i would use a test light or volt meter and double check that that wire has b+ when light turn on.

Posted Aug 03, 2009 · 16:48 UTC#7

I can confirm this is working on mine.

Posted Aug 03, 2009 · 17:07 UTC#8

defective unit i'd guess then

Posted Aug 06, 2009 · 03:24 UTC#9

make sure you try to jump the illm wire on the avic to 12v+ on the main harness

if you still get no dimmer or acknowledgment that the dimmer is working then your most likely have a defect unit

I finally dug into my dash this weekend and tested the 12v wire against the illumination wire on the head unit and BAM it DIMS! I called Crutchfield and they are sending me a new interface to fix the issue. So in other words the head unit works fine.

Thanks!

the interface I am talking about is the "Wiring harness" with the interface that translates why my vehicle data is sending.

OK,

I really need some help now. I just got the second interface in and no illumination!

I called and just found out that my 2005 Chevy 1500 Silverado does not send out a Illumination signal through the wiring harnis.

I have two options.

1) I can buy the PAC Audio interface for $169 (Which is outrageous)

OF

2) Find a wire behind the dash that pushes out 12v when the lights come on.

Please tell me where I might find a details Chevy wiring diagram?

Anyone :(

HELP!

Play with your lights :) Turn the parking lights on and off and look for anything on the dash, around the radio, cig lighter, AC/Heater controls, etc that lights up with the parking lights. Find any source that is 12v+ when the parking lights are turned on. You could also find something at the light switch. Worst case, just tie into the parking light at the front of the vehicle.

How do I find if a source has 12v?

Posted Aug 14, 2009 · 17:22 UTC#16

Multimeter. Cheap ones can be bought for less than $10.

I am actually a big fan of the PAc canbus harnesses. Sure, they can be pricey, but well worth it to me for the time they save.

Shop around on-line, they can usually be found for around $70.

Here's the deal - your truck's electrical system includes a databus that uses data to digitally tell things to light up. You may have a hard time finding an illumination wire. The parking light wire will be brown and you'll find it in the driver side kick panel. Use the multimeter like bobsyouruncle said and make sure it only gets 12v when you want it to. In other words, if you turn on the parking lights and you get 12v on that wire, great. Then test to see if 12v is present when you use the blinkers and/or when the truck is running and in gear (when the daytime driving lights come on). If it's only 12v when you turn the lights on, perfect! Otherwise, you'll have to spend the money on a PAC adapter that generates the illumination for you.

P.S. - When you turn the stereo on, do you get a parking brake connection error message? The first few we've installed have been doing this even though it's all hooked up properly.

I have been noticing this on my install, I had the installers check it and they said it is hooked up. They thought that the sensors in the radio might be detecting some sort of movement with the brake up.

use a multimeter, test light, or power probe. something that reads voltage

if u dont have a multimeter, places like sears where i live have cheapo ones for like 15 bucks that will work fine just testing voltahe

I would purchase the PAC interface - try picking one up on ebay..... i'm sure it will be much less.

DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT - the new GM vehicles use a data system and most test lights can send voltage back through the circuit and you can have Thousdand of dollars in damage - always use a good quality multimeter - its worth spending $30-50 on a good meter than having a $1000.00+ bill from your dealer to replace the BCU for your car/truck.

Also - you don't have an ACCESSORY (red) wire in the factory harness. Also - if you truck gives off a warning beep or door chim - when you remove the factory HU - you will loose that capability... so if you accidentally have your ebrake on - and you drive away, you'll never hear that BEEP the car makes telling you your ebrake is on or you have left a door open/adjar while driving away or if you have a check engine light or something notifying you.

You spent well over $1400+ on a navigation unit - buy the PAC interface or Metra interface for your truck. And honestly - $160 is a little high - you should be able to pick up that harness / inteface for about less than $100 shipped anywhere online.

Do some research and you'll find it - Metra, Scosche, PAC, peripheral - they're all the same, most private label the same interface under that company's name....

Also, don't forget you'll need a 40-GM10 antenna adaptor too !!!

on my mustang i just tapped a wire directly into the light dial and it worked perfectly. Not sure if you could do the same or not. Many ILL wires do not actually work on the harnesses

Hi

I think I am having the same problem - firstly what is supposed to happen if this works correctly? Is it the same as the 900, as in at night the blue sky on the nav screen is dark? If yes then mine is not working as it stays blue all of the time? It is set to automatic!!!

May need to go back to the installer

Cheers

On VAG cars you won't be able to get it working through the harness. You'll need an interface. Since you are in the UK you should be able to pick up Connects2 interface which will give you everything you need. Damn CAN bus.

ok thanks - but it worked on my f900 in the same car so wasn't sure why its not working now? going back tomorrow and they are gonna have a look
