Well, I've been running this for about 2 weeks now, and all I can say is WOW! The Z is incredible. I have had not one issue, and it sounds awesome...way better than the X910BT I had in first. The interface is much much faster, nearly instantaneous for most all functions, and it boots about as fast as the D3. Job well done, Pioneer, job well done.

Here are a couple of pix of mine, and Pioneer's, handywork:

Love the splash screen. I am putting one in my 996 this week. Could you share the file for the splash screen please? Is it easy to get the custom splash screen on with the file?

Thanks.

Nice! To answer that question above, the background is simple to install once you put it on the SD card and load it on the Z. The hardest part was figuring out the CORRECT size of the image, which is completely mis-stated in the user manual. It is huge, in order get it fill the screen. I'll post it later, with the correct pixel dimension so if you guys decide to make other files, you'll have the right dimensions.

ok fun aside, what is the proper pic size ????

Posted Aug 04, 2009 · 17:08 UTC#11

I'll have to look when I get home tonight...the image is on my computer at home, and I cannot remember the correct dimension. The max dimension horizontal, is correct in the owner's manual, I can remember that much, but the vertical is completely off. If you do the max H x V that is in the manual, the image will have black bars on the top and bottom like a letterboxed movie.

I can answer for this one ,800x480

If you use the Avic Feeds software that Pioneer has on it's site, it can format any image in the proper size. Found it handy once I figured out how to use it.

Yeah, that is the actual pixel size of the screen, but that isn't the size for the splash screen. I tried that, and it made the image small, and centered on the screen with black bars around both the top and bottom. Unless there is some sort of strectch mode that I don't know about, that definitely didn't work for me--not to say, again, that it won't work if there is some setting to make it work. But out of the box, not so much.

The max size reported in the owner's manual is: 2592 x 1944 (which gives you a fully filled screen)

The pixel size of the screen is 800 x 480 which is a 1 2/3 : 1 ratio. So, 1944 * 1 2/3 = 3240, and I'm pretty sure that was the correct size I ended up with: 3240 x 1944.

Like I said, I'll double check it tonight, and I'll post the Porsche splash screen which is almost a dead-on duplicate of the factory PCM splash screen, only slightly better :D in my opinion.

One other item would be some pics or bids of your unit in operation

Posted Aug 04, 2009 · 22:24 UTC#18

Here it is...and it is 3240 x 1944.

Thanks,

I did a save as and it did not save in the correct resolution. Anyway you can post the actual file?

Posted Aug 05, 2009 · 05:24 UTC#20

You just need to click on it, to get the larger view. Then do save as, and it will save at the correct size. Just checked it, and it works fine.

What bezel is that? The one from euromotorspeed.com?

No, I bought the one from them, but ended up sending it back. The color is not a perfect match from Euro, and I did not like the fact that the unit was not centered vertically in their bezel (the bezel is larger above the HU than below it substantially).

I purchased the bezel from Nexxia Audio Solutions in the UK, and had is shipped over here. Their cost, for bezel and shipping was about $75, and you can get the antenna adapter from Crutchfield for $20.

That looks great, and I would love to do this in my 987. Did you have the Bose sound system by any chance? That is the big fly in the ointment for me,as the Bose system uses a MOST system bus thingy.

Wow, that's a really good price. The fit and color of that thing looks close to perfect in that picture as well. I well definitely go for that kit.
