Not sure if anyone saw this on the Z series threads but as far as I can tell it looks like MSN is ditching the lifetime subscription service on the MSN Direct units. Seems as though they are going strictly to the $50/yr fee. Well, I wasn't about to miss out ton the lifetime (or at least 4 year) subscription and tried to find the Best Buy $129.99 Lifetime card. I bought one on-line from Best Buy last Friday and was told today that the order was canceled and that my money would be refunded. Today I called around to the local Denver stores and on the 6th store, found a location that still had some of these. The previous 5 stores I called did not and said they have no record of restocking orders, nor any way to special order them. I cannot confirm that these are going away completely, but judging by the fact that MSN canceled their $99 lifetime service a couple weeks ago and now Best Buy's $129.99 service although still stated on their website, is no longer available on-line, I'm thinking these are most likely as good as done.

See here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/MSN-Direct/pcmcat161300050009.c?id=pcmcat161300050009&searchterm=msn%20direct&searchresults=1 It still mentions the $129.99 lifetime subscription, but if you click on the orange subscription link on the lower right, it goes to an empty list.

Long story short... I bought 6 more. Already sold one to someone on the board tonight. Please understand that I am NOT aiming to make any money on these. Just wanted to snatch a few up and offer them to other that may have wanted to get them before time runs out.

If you want one, email me at [email protected]. Price is $136, that's $129.99 for the card and $6(.01) for the Paypal fees and a stamped envelope. I'd like to keep all payments through Paypal, please.

Feel free to holler at me if you want one. 5 left at this point. First pay, first serve. Again, just looking to get these out to some folks that may not be able to get them anymore. Consider it my good deed for the month... ;)

PS - if this violates the forum rules for selling, just let me know please. I was hoping to let it slide since I'm just trying help folks get these cards before they are gone, but I don't want to disrupt anything either. Just let me know if this is not cool. Looking at the price you can tell I'm not making any $ here.

I would recommend adding a couple dollars for insurance. These things are like cash. You could also just exchange the card numbers over email or phone after payment. No need to actually ship the card...

Excellent point. So be it. Anyone that needs one, just let me know. I can send you the number and then destroy the card. Or can I even scan an image of the scratched off card to you to so you can see it's legit. I'll be sure to destroy all cards after their numbers are divulges, so don't delete your email ;)

i've had MSN Direct for going on 4 months now I think I have will have it for 9 months for $19 and tell you the truth it's a piece of crap. The movie times are from a 20 miles away. My gosh I live in NYC and it cant find my local movie theater. It has no local news, no local traffic info, no gas price info a compete ripoff. Worst $19 I've ever spent before.

Too bad. Works perfect in Chicago...

Sold that one but the wife picked up 3 more over lunch (I asked that she picked up 10 but she didn't have that much cash on her).

So I now have 3 more.

Thanks 6605stang, I entered the card number and everything is working perfectly. The transaction went smoothly, and I was up and running in under 2 hours. I blame MSN for taking too long to sendthe activation to my head unit. I live and work in the NYC area and traffic updates work great.

Awesome, glad to hear it. 2 left. If they keep going this fast, I'll go try to get more after work. interested parties keep telling me so I can gauge how many to get.

Anyone want any more of these? I won't go get anymore if there isn't any demand. But there is, I could shoot down there after work today. It's a nice day, I could go for a drive.

Posted Oct 24, 2009 · 03:11 UTC#16

Ok peoples. Locked and reloaded. Got 15 more today. Left 2 behind for anyone that was looking. And that, as far as I know is IT.

On that note, if it's not too big of a deal, I'd like to bump my price on them by just a few bucks. Say $140 even? $4 more each? This just kind of turned into a bit of a undertaking and I thought it would be reasonable to ask for a few dollars each for my time/gas, etc. If that's not cool, let me know. Not doing it for big profit or anything, just a couple bucks for my troubles and making avaiable something that appears to be gone most everywhere.

Anyway, to reiterate... if you need one, please post first so I can see your post count (there have been a lot of Googlers asking about them). Then email me, or just send $140 over to [email protected]. Then I'll email you a photo or scanned image of the a scratched off card. Once you activate and tell me that it worked, I'll destroy the card. Done deal.

Alright then, tally is back up to 15 and counting. Cheers, JR

Judging by the outside-of-AVIC411 responses (and curses) I'm getting, I should clarify something... I'm doing this as a favor at the near-cost price for ACTIVE AVIC411 Members. If you PM me and you have 1 post, expect to pay more than cost, IF I decide to sell you one at all. I have 30 days to save these and slowly dole them out to any ACTIVE AVIC411 members that may want one. After about 3 weeks if I have any left, I'll be taking the rest back to Best Buy where I'm sure they will not go back on the shelf. If during that time I decide to sell more to the public, I will, however it will not be at the near cost price ACTIVE AVIC411 members enjoy. If you are not an active member, you can ask for one at the cost I see fit for a non-member, or you can run the risk of not getting one at all.

Sorry you had to see this 411ers, but If I sell these at cost to the whole world they'd be gone by now, so I'm charging extra for public inquiries. If you are on 411 and your post count looks like you've been around awhile, just let me know and I'll be happy to get you going for very near cost (Card + Paypal fees + a tiny bit for gas and my time). ;)

I should have known this would happen...

Stang, I would be interested in taking one off your hands if you still have some available. Thanks!

Posted Oct 25, 2009 · 12:49 UTC#19

Hey JR definitely interested. I have some questions so I'll be sending an email later this morning. Its because of people like you in this forum that I am so happy I went with the Pioneer unit rather than the Kenwood. The willingness of members to help each other is just terrific. Thanks

I'm interested in one of the cards as well....Any left?

Posted Oct 28, 2009 · 16:33 UTC#23

Update: 11 cards left and I do NOT have access to any more.

Thats been pretty well established so far... However with the refund they are offering you can get the last 2+ years of service for FREE. There has been a "couple" posts about this.
