so i dont know what happened a month ago i was able to watch video just fine and i was trying yesterday and no luck. my father was messing with the unit two weeks ago, maybe he changed something that i cant seem to find. iam using the pioneer rca cable that came with the unit, and the parking brake is not bypassed. when I try to watch video of any kind ipod, disc or sd card, the audio is just fine but nothing shows up on the screen just the stupid warnings about driving safe. seriously any help would be great iam at a loss.

I guess you tried to reset you system ? Do you have your unit bypassed at all software or hard wire ? And do you get audio on DVD-CD-Ipod-and scan disc. Does your unit read format from the souce ? Last question. I guess your Map does display ?

Posted Dec 20, 2009 · 19:06 UTC#3

no modifcations at all stock. yes i have pushed the tiny recessed reset button. i also took all the settings back to factory default but i think that might just be for the nav. and yeah my maps work fine. all audio seems to work. i am not sure what you mean when you ask if my unit reads format from the source? if your asking if the unit displays what type of file iam trying to play from any given source, i have never noticed, but ill take a look. again thank you for your thoughts

Sounds like software and not a hardware issue.Since your map display's. You might need to reinstall your software. Do you have a backup of your unit ? If not you can download 2.0 or 3.0 firmware. The 2.0 can be downloaded from the Pioneer web site free of charge. There is alot of info on how to do that on this Forum. Or if your unit is still under warranty you could send back to Pioneer. Their customer service is not that great. Good luck Jeff R

thanks again jeff ill give re-installing the firmware a shot. who knows, iam still curious if i might just be missing a setting or somthing really simple like that but if i am not getting video from the disk drive then shouldnt matter what the settings for av1 and av2 are. does the pioneer rca cable that came with the unit have anything to do with any source other then an ipod?

Posted Dec 20, 2009 · 22:06 UTC#6

I do not think so. The iPod Audio/Video Cable (CD-IU230V) should be pluged in the A/V inputs on the A/V harness in the back of your unit. The USB cable from the(CD-IU230V) should be pluged in the USB cable from the back of your unit. If it is hooked up this way it will have no affect on Video display. And yes AV1 and AV2 should have no affect. AV2 is the the front A/V input and A/V1 is the rear. You can change the setting in AV1 to OFF - Video - or Ipod Of course you can try to turn off AV1 remove SD card if you have one in. From the Map screen.Insert a DVD it should display READING FORMAT then you should have a small Icon on the lower right (DVD-V) Press that Icon and you should have Video. Do get any error message at all ? Did your dad mess around with any of the cables ? Try to hardwire bypass your unit just incase there's a problem with the parking brake wire. But Since your getting audio I do not think thats your problem. Seems to me you have tried just about eveything :(

used a fresh version of the firmware with no luck i know it updated because i had 2.000000 now its version 2.006000 or something any way i also noticed that after all the updating and rebooting that the av1 source never lights up when ipod is selected. no i havent gotten any error messages just a pop up that says something like its not safe to drive and watch movies if you agree push ok, if i take the parking break off i get a yellow yeild that blocks out the screen. no my pops didnt mess with any cables but i guess thats my next step. ill bypass the brake pedel and check all the connections. thanks for bouncing ideas my way. so jeff just to be clear you can watch a dvd with av1 and 2 both set to off?

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 01:03 UTC#8

Just checked I turned off A/V1 and A/V2 and can play DVD with video. :(

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 01:22 UTC#9

Are any of the other Icon's grayed out. Odd that A/V1 does not light when pressed.

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 01:40 UTC#10

av1 will light up when its set to video but not ipod, av2 does when its set to video also, other then that the disk lights up when there's a disk in the drive, the usb stick turns to an ipod when thats plugged in, both fm and am are selectable, xm is available also. now i cant seem to use my sd card, but i think i got rid of the files on that to make room for the firmware. so i bypassed the parking brake which is great. but still cant see anything just the sounds. just for fun could ya tell me what you have the other settings in "av settings" set to. again you've been such a help. by the way, ya know anyone who wants to buy a broken stereo. haha

I have A/V1 set to Ipod A/V2 is set to Video. I use A/V2 for my rear DVD player when my 3 year old is in the truck and we all want to here whats playing. I wonder if your video driver is corrupted or the resolution is too high

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 02:23 UTC#12

seems to me a driver would be fixed with a firmware update, but maybe not. the resolution could be off.just looked around and couldnt find a place to adjust the resolution, i didnt have a dvd with me but ill check it out tomarrow. so what do you have the "mute/input/guide" and the "wide mode" and "ant control" and "rear sp" set to. i dont believe it matters but, just curious.

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 02:57 UTC#13

Yes I do but they are grayed out. But should not have any effect. I agree. I just went to get some ice cream it's still in the 70's in the desert. In Joan's F900BT Their is a brightness ajustment in the nav setting tab. Top Menu then setting lower right. Sorry it takes a while to to back to you I am building a computer for a friend.

How old is your unit if it less then two years old it is still under warranty ?

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 04:12 UTC#15

You said that Ipod Icon won't light up. Try unplugging the CD-IU230V cable from the back of the unit maybe the cable is shorted out. You got nothing to loose :D Let me know tomorrow Good luck Jeff R

Also try another ipod. If it works then the issue is with the ipod. You can do a restore on the ipod and re-sync your data. Then often clears stubborn issues with the ipod.

yeah i have tried my iphone my sisters iphone my itouch a third gen classic and one of the sqaure nano's all with the same result. besisdes its all video sources not just ipod. even from my disk drive. even from a sd card. so idont know. when i did the bypass i had everything disconnected. when i put it back together i made sure all connections were snug. the cable could be faulty, last night i orderd the apple cables, radio shack ran out or i would have already swapped them out. it is only the av1 button on the bottom left of the source menu that is grayed out, the ipod in the upper right side is selectable. and yes worst case i send it back for repairs, but kinda screwed as, i threw out the stock unit. maybe ill just have to buy a z110. ill try to restore my i touch, ill swap out that pioneer rca cable, if anyone has an idea or a question please share. thanks jeff. thanks VBLUE42

Hmm, certainly sounds strange. Have you done a reset on the unit? Also, can you view video when the vehicle is not moving?

Posted Dec 21, 2009 · 13:23 UTC#19

yes i have reset the unit. upgraded firmware from 2.0 to 2.0006 messed with all the settings bypassed the parking brake incase it was causing a glitch. looked at all the pins from both sockets on the back side of the unit, checked all the cables for visable defects. no video from any source while iam parked with the park brake on or off. no video from any source while iam moving with the park brake on or off. so ya runnin out of things to try. i restored my ipod touch last night, and ill give that a try here in a few hours and iam waiting on cables from apple that will be here the 23-25. iam doubtfull on both of those "fixes" because it is not just an ipod problem. but iam willing to experiment with any idea ya got. a little off topic but how do yo like your z110 vblue42?

Posted Dec 22, 2009 · 17:24 UTC#20

so no luck with the ipod restore solution but oh well. infact i decided to call pioneer support and the guy on the other end says its busted and needs to be repaired. so next step is to figure out what to do about a stereo while that ones bieng fixed. we will see.

i have the same problem too. i haven't done too much troubleshooting yet. i used to be able to play video from my ipod and remember trying it one day and it stopped working. this was the same video (a podcast) that worked before.

at first i thought maybe the ipod video cable came undone, but never bothered to check cause i didn't want to pull out the unit. then i decided that video connection should be fine from ipod because i can display album art. so i would assume the video cable is plugged in properly. are you getting album art on your unit? i also tried setting the video settings on the ipod to 'tv out' and vice versa.

i am able to get video fine from my backup camera so i wouldn't think it would be an issue with the software.

i also tried playing around with av1/2 settings as well.

i tried putting a video on an sd card today but the file doesn't even show up when i look for it. i know its formatted, etc properly cause i can play mp3's.

but i get the same result as you...all audio, no video.

this happened to me pre and post 3.0. I have the software bypass done. i know the bypass is working fine too cause i can input directions while dirving on the keyboard. i get the warning though when i try to watch video from my ipod about it not being safe watching movies from the front seat (everyone gets that correct?).

ill probably try hooking up a dvd player to see if that works. hopefully well both find a solution.

Posted Dec 24, 2009 · 05:41 UTC#22

the guy from pioneer tech support or what ever says that if your navigation works but the dvd player just plays the audio (form a store bought dvd not a burnt copy or net flix down load or anything) then the video processing unit or what ever he called it went tits up needs to be pulled out of the vehicle taken apart and replaced then put back together. yes i get album art and yes the pop up that asks you to select ok when you try to watch movies is there even when the parking brake is not bypassed and the parking brake is ingaged. by the way i think the album art is sort of layered in the audio file its self. so it would have nada to do with the video portion of you pioneer deck. it trips me out that your backup camera works but the other video sources that you have tried dont. maybe because it on a closed curcuit and it just displays what it sees rather then have to read a file from a disk. ya know what i mean? try a dvd disk and if that doesnt work i bet its the same problem as mine. if the dvd does work great. i bet the problem would be with the cable or the ipod. some say updating the ipods have cleared other issues. and some say the pioneer cable is crap and the apple composite cable cleared some of their issues. anyway iam curious what ya find out.

Posted Dec 25, 2009 · 15:52 UTC#23

thanks. i have the 700 so i cant play dvd disks regardless but im going to try to use the video in cable soon with an external device. does anyone have a free video they can point me to that they know for a fact works. i don't know why the mpeg-4 video i tried putting on an sd card doesn't show up when i browse the sd card in the avic.

Posted Jan 13, 2010 · 04:25 UTC#24

well if anyone in the future reads this i ended up pulling out my unit and sure enough the cables were in the wrong spot. i had my ipod video cable coming from my ipod in the wrong input into the avic. i feel dumb.

I have this problem, but my rear camera won't display either.

I'm pulling my unit and sending off to Pioneer. They said it's normally a 5 to 7 day turnaround for the repair. I won't like it, but I can live with that.
