Exactly, thank you sthompson11. Lakersfreak this is also why you need to read your manual.

Let me see if I can bridge the gap on this one. This applies to units where the bypass HAS NOT been done. VBLUE42 is correct. You can not change from 2D to 3D mode (and vise-versa) without the parking brake on. If you are viewing the map in 2D mode it will not change by touching the screen. If you are in 3D mode, the screen will change to 2D mode when you touch the screen, but only to utilize the cursor to find a street, POI, etc. If you do this while driving, notice that the screen will not change to follow your movement. It will stay fixed until you drag the map any direction, or hit the arrow in the top left to change back to 3D mode.

I suggest trying this while driving, and just leave the unit alone for a few miles, and you will see exactly what I'm saying. Eventually, your actual location will no longer be on the map, as it stays fixed.

Thank you SThompson this is what I've been trying to tell them, but they insisted I was wrong. I did read the manual, but I was going crazy cuase people here were saying that you can change while in motion. Thanks for the clarification.

So are you clear on how it works now?

In defense, the confusion on this is understandable when you're new to this unit. When I was comparing models in the store, it certainly looked like it was this easy to switch NAV view modes, which was something I really liked about the Z110. Of course, the sales rep didn't correct me or clarify what it was actually doing. It wasn't until I had the unit installed and tried it while driving until I had my W.T.F. moment.

No worries.

Yes I am very clear now. Thanks to all!!! I just wish I could change it without having to brake. Regarding the bypass, is it only done by wiring or are there programs on cd's i can put in the drive and let do its thing?

Only by wiring modification. It's well documented on this forum. There's also some YouTube videos on the subject. You just have to decide if you're willing and able.

OK I took it in today and the installer fixed my dimmer. However, he couldn't fix the steering wheel functions. He said that I would have to install it through the sync system somehow by purchasing another module. Either he did a great job confusing me or he's confused himself!

More questions (after I went through the manual)

1) What the purpuse of the 3D settings (the one where it shows the car and mileage with bars accross)??

2) When I'm playing my ipod then switch to another media source (fm) my ipod does not pause... it keeps playing.

also now my - volume button on steering wheel isnt always working. Other functions are fine though. DO I need to take it back to installer?

Yes.

Posted Mar 19, 2010 · 22:37 UTC#36

well I haven't taken it in, and I probably won't. The thing works most of the time; sometimes it doesn't and it needs a restart. I guess its normal.

There is a bad connection on that wire. I have the same problem with my SWI-PS.

Posted Mar 22, 2010 · 23:40 UTC#38

ok its more annoying than I can handle. If its a bad connection can the installer fix it?

Posted Mar 23, 2010 · 01:42 UTC#39

Yes. This is usually caused by using wire taps on the wires that are too big for the wires. These connections should be soldered for best results.
