Real Newbie question(s)

Just bought a brand new 2010 altima yesterday.

Aftermarket shop is offering the 110BT model for $999US plus $100 installation.

I'm told the 120 will be available in a couple of weeks but that also the 110 plus software upgrade will be a 120BT...True?

Also, IPOD question.

With my Rosen Nav system in my 2008 camry, I can play videos on the 7 inch touchscreen but the videos can only be played by physically controlling the ipod itself.

With a 110/120 unit is Video control available on the Pioneer touchscreen itself?

Does it play natively in fullscreen on the Pioneer touchscreen or only through a hack.

I read the video only goes to the backseat monitors.

Thanks,

Jeff

Yes to all of your questions. All of which are covered on this forum.

The 120bt is available right now. The 120 is the same as the 110 except for the AV source UI.

So I either need my installer to do the hack so my front seat "passenger" can watch and control the ipod video on the pioneer touscreen or do it myself I guess.

If you are referring to the bypass then yes, you will need to perform the bypass to be able to watch any video or perform nav functions while in motion. Most installers will not do it however. Details for the bypass are on this forum.

I will search and find I'm sure, great forum.

Is anyone here familiar with the "rosen" systems.

This appears to blow it away.

I still cant believe Ipod/Itouch control is possible from the pioneer touchscreen, I was told this could not be done..WOW.

Is the 110/120 simply the best out there?

Look through the Hacks & Mods section.

Been done for years now. Who told you that?

Well thats a matter of opinion but this unit is one of the few at the top.

I thought that with the Itouch video out control was propritary meaning external video control of the itouch was not possible.

With my $1000 rosen entertainment system music from the itouch/IPod could be controlled via the rosen's toucscreen but NOT video.

The facyt that the pioneer could do this is awesome.

Can internet from an itouch be seen on the nav's screen too?

Is internet on a in dash nav available anywhere?

All aftermarket systems support iPod video playback.

Clearly not from a Touch sense there is no internet capability except for WiFi but this is possible with a jailbroken iPhone.

Some Ford systems I believe have limited net support but no aftermarket as far as I am aware of. There was some chatter on this forum about the F series being hacked to support internet but it quickly died out. Not sure what the current status is.

BUT, IS that VIDEO control From the IN Dash nav unit or controlled from the ipod itself.

On my Rosen Nav, video gets to the nav screen but only when I manually do it from the IPOD, Not the touchscreen controls

Its from the head unit. Aftermarkets have been doing this for years.

Been reading the manual in advance of my purchase.

Says 320 by 240 is recommended video image size; is it capable of 640 x 480 off of a ipod touch?

Posted May 24, 2010 · 01:10 UTC#13

Dont know but iPod video displays just fine on this unit.

Try using handbrake (it's free) to convert videos for your iPod. As long as the video displays on your iPod it will display on the hu.

Just wanted to be sure of one thing...The harness for the ipod also keeps it charged, right?

Made an apointment for the z120BT to be installed in my 2010 altima here in NY for $1800 installed complete with dash kit/ steering wheel controls and ipod harness for $1,800 including tax, good price?

Posted May 26, 2010 · 01:00 UTC#16

That's a pretty steep price for it. Yeah the Pioneer Ipod cable will provide power to charge your iPod.

Posted May 26, 2010 · 01:16 UTC#17

seems kinda high to me but lets say:

60 for SWC

ipod cable: 45

install 200

dashkit 25 (mine for my dodge magnum cost only 15)

120bt 1400

taxes should be around 150

So yeah that would be around 1900 but lets see if you got

110bt for 900

install 200, dash 25, ipod cable 45, 60 swc, taxes 150, 200 for future upgrade to 120bt software

so thats around 1600

guys these are based around what numbers i've experience and come from the top of my head, I.E. don't flip out if i'm off

Posted May 26, 2010 · 01:52 UTC#18

u could save a lot of dough if you do your own install.

ANd run the risk of dmaging a brand new 2010 Altima with 7 miles on it?

I'm handy and back in the day I did dashboard modifications but the electronics now are a bit more complicated and I wouldnt even know where to begin with the Altima dash replacement so the $200 or so for labor is worth it I guess

I have a 2010 Altima also and am doing the install myself. It's actually pretty easy and i have the bose system which installers will tell you makes things hard but it's a snap. And if you by the part from Crutchfield, whatever you dont know, their tech support will walk you through. I just got my 120bt last friday and waiting for the other things to come from Crutchfield.

I would say do it yourself and save some money. Honestly its not a BMW, I would bet Nissan isn't making it outrageously difficult

Love my new Z120BT

But two things.

1) the mic is all the ways to the left right on the corner pillar by the driver's window, people have trouble hearing me, right location?

2) Is there a way to prevent auto dimming when the headlights are turned on, really washes it out; would prefer a manual way of dimming it onscreen, is there a way to do that?

Posted May 28, 2010 · 04:39 UTC#23

not sure about question number two but for 1: I have my mic mounted in same location and when i tried it with the mic the unit came with, I had the same issue. I went out and bought a garmin mic for 12 bucks and works great

Posted May 28, 2010 · 05:10 UTC#24

U can adjust the dimmer settings when the lights are on, by holding the Mode button.

Posted May 28, 2010 · 20:12 UTC#25

Wow what I'm learning here.

So first I know that the included mic with the 110/120 is of poor quality, can i pick up that $12 garmin mic in a Best Buy?

Can I just sever to the leads to the current mic head and splice the new one in, or do I have to go back to the back of the head unit ( or should I say have the installer do it?

I know know how to compensate for auto dimmer now ....great

Is an altitude setting in nav available anywhere like my Rosen entertainment system has?

Thnx

jeff
