MOD NOTE: I am making this the official notice. It seems that everyone wants to create a thread about this and we don't need a hundred threads saying the same thing.

yup - just got the email as well. Is there going to be a way to get an unofficial copy ;) for evaluation purposes?

Posted Jun 10, 2010 · 22:42 UTC#4

Looks like the software needs to be activated after purchased. I there was a way around this before on i remember when i went from z1 to z3. Not sure if the same possibility exists here as well.

Posted Jun 10, 2010 · 22:47 UTC#5

it doesn't need an activation, it needs a password.

$200!!!!!!!!!!! might have to wait on this one or until it finds its way to the web :-)

Posted Jun 10, 2010 · 23:25 UTC#7

Yeah 200.00 bucks seems like alot of money!! Wow! Didnt see that coming... I know it updates it from a 110 to a 120 but I think I spent more than enough on the original price.

Where have you guys been? We have been saying it was going to cost around 200 dollars for months now. That is the typical price for a map upgrade and these upgrades never give you a redesigned AV interface. 200 Dollars is well worth it in my opinion and if I still had the 110 I would have this on its way right now.

Posted Jun 11, 2010 · 00:02 UTC#9

Well it has been awhile since Ive been on, I must admit. Good to hear from you VBLUE... For unknown reasons I was thinking it would be around 150... not sure why. I agree you get alot, just want to make sure its all worth it. Are the maps upgrading also? or is it a minor upgrade to them...

Posted Jun 11, 2010 · 00:04 UTC#10

Yes this is actually a map upgrade with the new AV screen.

I am thinking I'd rather pay $1500 for a new Alpine, Kenwood or someone else than to put more money in to this buggy headunit. That is just how I roll.

out for a troll this evening? :D

I can cut $200 dollars worth of grass within a couple of hours with a push mower....

Posted Jun 11, 2010 · 01:36 UTC#14

$200 still seems like a lot. How does the password work on this? Do you get a unique password for each SD card? Does it authenticate to the unit some how?

Posted Jun 11, 2010 · 01:44 UTC#15

I just ordered it, just went with the standard shipping, will upgrade next week.

I don't see why they don't just offer it as a download. I know it would be a large file, but come on Pioneer, get with the times, all things in a digital format should be available for download in this "I want it now" world.

Posted Jun 11, 2010 · 01:53 UTC#16

How many 2GB upgrade downloads have you actually seen from other companies?

I guess they could just not offer an upgrade at all and require you to pay 1500-2000 for the new unit. Kinda like all the other companies do.

IMO...it's not allot at all....

They've updated the maps...

completely re-engineered the GUI....

Introduced Pandora Link

introduced Music sphere

introduced the fuel eco thing-a-ma-jig....

I'd say that you're getting allot for your money... especially if you jumped onboard the sweet discount that they were offering on the Z110BT's that lasted up till now...

IMO...it's not allot at all.... I agree, it's about right.

They've updated the maps... I hope this has updates to roads I have found incorrect so far.

completely re-engineered the GUI.... I hope I like it, but I always want the latest.

Introduced Pandora Link No iphone, so this will not work. They need to make it work with Android.

introduced Music sphere We'll see, again, I hope I like it.

introduced the fuel eco thing-a-ma-jig.... Could care less, it's just a gimmick IMHO. Make it connect to the OBD II port, then we're talking.

Anybody can make an iso image and share the registration code or password the z110bt is not going to comunicate with any headquarter online and let them know the same software has been use by more than a person. You guys must be crazy buying it when you allready know is a easy hack. We just got to have 1 person who will like to share it and know how to actually make the iso. If a month from now I don't see anybody on this forum willing to share I will and that is that.

Android

This unit is and has been pushed for IPod/IPhone compatibility....

Why else would it have a proprietary IPod adapter???

It's not like you can hook up a ZuneHD or Android phone to it's IPod adapter... and expect much....

I don't like it anymore than you.... but the IPod, has built a solid foundation....

In other words...this unit was designed around the Apple IPod....... Everything else is questionable....

There is no control protocol with any other phones via USB like there is with the iPhone. So there is nothing Pioneer can do about this. Just one of the many reasons why no other phones compare to the iPhone.

You have to receive a unique password from Pioneer to your upgrade to enter in on the unit or you will not be able to install the upgrade to your unit. That password will only work for your unit. Its not going to be as easy as just copying the image from the SD cards.

I agree, there are a lot of devices that work with ipod, that's why I have one. I wasn't implying that the upgrade should make it compatible with Android, obviously that would take hardware, but really not anything more complicated then a cable to plug into the IP Bus, or whatever they call it. But soon I think we will see more devices supporting Android.
