Hi guys, After putting a Z1 in the wifes ride, I have decided to put one in mine as well. Does anyone know if I can use the Rear entertainment in a Chevy Trailblazer with the Z1 ????
Want to use factory Rear entertainment with Z1
Unfortunately, it won't work with the z1. That is unless you relocate the stock radio in the vehicle.

Unfortunately you are wrong
Went to see my local installer and he did it for me.
isnt the rear entertainment system controlled by the oem radio? if so, then you had to have the unit kept to keep control of it
No its not, I have the oem deck in my house ![]()

It could also be one of those dealer installed units, not a factory installed. But whatever glad it worked out for you.
thats likely what it is cntrylvr. He probably thinks its oem.

Wrong Again ![]()
Do I have to go and take pictures ![]()
yes, please do. though to be honest I could care less about YOUR car, its to help others.
Okay but keep in mind that I didnt end up getting the avic. I will take pics asap
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer, with the rear dvd system (Factory Installed), and my installer installed the Avic-Z1....
I'm able to have the children watch a dvd in the back, and I'm able to watch a different dvd upfront using the Avic-Z1....of couse, I only watch it while stopped.
The oem head unit is setting in the box in my garage that the Avic-z1 came in.
and?
less some info on how it was done doesnt help much. Thats why LeonPhelps is going to get back to us with pics. But its clear that the controls that are on the factory head unit are lost when removing that head unit. Would be even better to know what was done to integrate it, cause just saying i got it to does nothing for no one.
For mine, all we had to do was tap into the AUX-in on the oem dvd player, im still working on the pics.
what kind of aux? a pair of rca's? or a special connector? or was it the dvd player itself?

if I knew what they did, I would have added that information. The main question was 'can it be done', and the answer is 'yes'. How, is another question.
your right, just saying 'yes', doesn't help those that install it themselves, but it may help someone who goes to an installer asking for it to be done.
when I go back to the installer, I'll ask the question of how they did it.
yes please. I know of video splitters that you can splice into the systems. but you must know which are the video prior to that. So IF it can be done simply with plugging into some rca's that would be great. Of course you loose the controls from factory radio which is the point of the factory radio I would think being integrated with it.

yes, as soon as I get a chance, I'll ask the installer....but...
even when we had only the rear unit, the children always used the remote for everything and I never used the factory head unit except when they didn't want to use the head phones, I had to set the sound on a certain station....so, it could be heard through the speakers.
so, you will lose that ability....the rear dvd will only be heard via head phones...that's the only thing I can think of that I lost.
but, I'll check with the installer to make sure.
factory system is fm modulated? that doesnt sound right.

it's factory installed....bought it from the dealer and it has a 'Ford' factory installed rear dvd system.
I'll take pictures when I get home.
If it's fm modulated, then it's a dealer addon made for ford by audiovox. Just like the ford "factory" alarms and remote starts/
then its really aftermarket? do those "ford" units have controls through the factory head unit?
Nope not even a bit. Kinda cool though how they're set up though. The power lines come into a 70-1771/71-1771 pigtail, then the antenna does the same thing. Dome lights same deal. The only truly plug and plaay overhead I've ever seen.
That looks llike one of the audiovox addon systems. Ford factory would not be black unless the dash itself is black.
makes sense that integration is possible then.
