i know that alpines have a blackout mode where the screen just goes black like a second or two after you get done pressing buttons. does the avic have this? i was thinking it would be nice when just listening to music to avoid attention from others/cops.
If you took the time to read some posts here, or search, you would have found that its been discussed before how to turn off the screen.

i see where paisonnyc is coming from, there is a certain amount of self help that needs to be done now adays, things have been lost due to that. Press and hold the V button. and from now on, try a search first
jesus christ sorry it was almost 5 in the morning and i didnt feel like seeing the sun come up...
oh yeah by the way....nothing came up when i searched for "blackout" except my post 
hehehe, just so you know, no one believes you "did" a search first for blackout.
p.s. aint it in the manual?
oh and P.S. again, cuz so you know I mentioned this as well without reading the manual and heres what a "blackout" search provided.. if you had actually done one...
