Hey guys, first of all I have the avh 4200 dvd, stock speakers in my is300 (which are very nice sounding speakers) with tweets fronts and rears, and a jl w7 12. I was trying to use the auto eq option the other day with one of my good mics made by alpine i think, but i could figure out how the hell it will work? I ask because the 4200's mic jack is on the inside where you have to raise the hu in order to get to that just like your putting in a cd. But how am i supposed to close it in order for my mic to start auto eq'ing if the mic jack is in the way? It wont even move and also the "auto eq" is greyed out on the screen so i cant click it prior to putting the mic in.

Also if anyone has somewhat of the same setup as me, what is the best eq settings you have found? I can't tell if loudness is a good idea to use or not either. Thanks for any help guys.

What does your manual say about this?

Posted Nov 01, 2010 · 20:01 UTC#3

im pretty sure it says to click auto eq and then plug in the mic... but its greyed out and even if i plugged in the mic first, it wont shut since the mic jack is in the way

Pull the parking brake.

i tried that.

Is your P. brake wire connected?

possibly not, how can i check? The guys that installed it for me did it for free so i just let them do it, they asked if i wanted the bypass so i can drive and watch movies and i said ya... so maybe it isnt connected?

Posted Nov 02, 2010 · 00:12 UTC#8

Well if you have the bypass you don't need the P. brake wire connected. Does your bypass work?

Posted Nov 02, 2010 · 00:23 UTC#9

ya it does, i actually just checked for the first time ever haha. played a movie and was driving, does that consider it working?

Posted Nov 02, 2010 · 03:32 UTC#10

Yea most likely. I don't really know much of the AVH series so I cant say for sure. I don't know man, you may have a defective unit.

a defective unit that only doesnt show the auto eq? i doubt it. Its there its just greyed out. There are no other problems with the unit so i realy doubt that only that part does work. The 4200 slides down and up in order to put a cd or mic or sd card in since it is a 7inch screen and nothing else, and when it is open and i put the mic in the jack it doesnt slide up, because it knows the mic is there and in the way, so obviously the jack also works. For some odd reason it just won't let me 'start' the auto eq like the manual says. The only thing i can think of is that my system is simply not capable with the auto eq, as i did read some frequency issues that it supposively will have if something is too high... ill read up on it.

Have you reset the unit?

Posted Nov 02, 2010 · 07:06 UTC#13

ya a few times in the past, but ill try it again.

Posted Nov 03, 2010 · 09:30 UTC#14

reset it and its still greyed out. Anyone have any idea? the manual says "2. TOUCH EQ TO TURN THE AUTO EQUALIZER ON OR OFF *you cannot use this function if auto EQ has not been carried out." Don't know what that even means exactly lol.

You may want to reverse the bypass you have and connect the P. brake wire and see if that makes a difference.

Posted Nov 03, 2010 · 22:01 UTC#16

well why would the video work while driving then?

Posted Nov 04, 2010 · 01:12 UTC#17

Dont ask why, just try it. Stranger things have happened.

Posted Nov 04, 2010 · 01:46 UTC#18

Haha ok, i have no idea what it looks like but ill try to find it.

Posted Nov 04, 2010 · 02:02 UTC#19

It will be the only mint green wire on the back of the unit.

Hi,

Probably you figured it already out but I thought it's still good to mention. It seems you didn't started the Auto EQ Measurement yet which is necessary to be able to turn the Auto EQ option on or off. This measurement function should be under the system options (not under audio options).

Cheers,

Hi,

When I do the Auto EQ Measurement with my P5200BT it lowers my rear speaker almost down to zero. Wandering if you guys experienced the same? I’m riding a roadster and the rear speakers are pretty close to the back seat panel but I should still get a little bit sound of it, or?! As first I thought the Auto EQ tries to bring some surround sound into the car or something like that but that’s not the reason. Maybe the HU just want to point out that the rear speakers are too bad to bring some sound through it

During the measurement all speakers are tested as supposed to be.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Virzn

His problem is the same one that I am having. His real issue is not that he has not run the AUTO-EQ measurement. It is because of the parking brake bypass relay that he uses. The relay only becomes "active" when the unit is switched on as it gets power from the amplifier. So when you turn the unit off to do the AUTO-EQ measurement, the unit thinks the parking brake is not active as no signal is coming to that wire.

My question is, is there an easy fix to this without removing the relay? I am thinking just ground the wire?

Exactly. This is my exact same issue right now. I cant find the answer anywhere online. Have you figured this out yet by any chance?

Since hooking up my P4200 in December, i had bought a relay setup from eBay that I got wired in flawlessly. As of a week ago, I really wanted to look into that Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ Microphone for Audio/Video Receivers; so I purchased one.

When I went to try to use it, I didnt know that the Pioneer unit has to be off "SOURCE OFF". Now once it is off, and technically not connected how it was intended to be, the unit thinks the car is in motion and "doesnt feel" the parking brake to be engaged; obviously since it really isn't.

I remember reading about other's using a switch before the Relay option became popular, where they would run the light green eBrake wire to one part of the switch, and then a separate wire (used for ground), from the other part of the switch to a grounded connection.

I am willing to try this, but I think i'm confusing myself. Wouldn't the switch idea be the exact same thing honestly as the relay where it still would not allow me to use the AUTO EQ function but it is not connected to the ebrake?

Or would that actually work??

IF IT Would actually work, and I am a complete n00b to switches, everyone that I read that has implemented one of these into their cars, used a momentary switch (Radio shack # 275-60), however, I want to use a illuminated Rocker switch to do the same thing. The rocker switch technically works the same way as that momentary one... yes?

just ground the parking brake wire use the auto eq and then hook the bypass back up for some reason the auto eq dose not work with the bypass. :(
