I got my AVIC-x930BT a few weeks ago and my GPS location is at times a block away from my actual location. I didn't notice this in the first week or two, but now it is starting to get very annoying, I tried to manually change location but it doesn't help. any ideas?

Anyone know how to do a reset on this x930bt?

Mine does the same, and others have reported this as well. For me, it happens when I first start the car. Once I take a turn here or there is is calibrated correctly. If I just drive in a straight line, it won't calibrate. I have to take a turn or two.

It is so annoying when I'm driving on a highway and it shows me on a side road that is parallel with the highway. even if I change current location myself it still reverts back to the wrong location.

Where and how is your antenna installed?

You might also try to turn off the "Keep Position On Road" setting. I found this to grab the road it thought I was on. Since I've turned it off, I also don't have map 'spins' at sudden stops (from the auto gyro still going). Also, when in a parking lot, with the setting 'On', it tries to put me on the nearest road. Setting 'Off', leaves me in the parking lot. Just my thoughts. Hope there's some help there.

The Antenna is on the dash of the passenger side.

I will turn off "Keep Position On Road" and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. If this doesn't work maybe there is something wrong with the antenna itself?

Is that thin metal plate under the antenna?

Good pic.

Posted May 17, 2011 · 13:51 UTC#9

No the audio shop that installed it did not use it.

Posted May 17, 2011 · 17:36 UTC#10

The antenna has to be fixed to something metal. Take it back and have them fix it.

I just moved my antenna from the side of the dash to the middle and placed a metal piece (not the original metal piece) under it. I hope this helps get a better signal.

Moving the antenna and putting it on a metal plate did not help.

What does the Connection Status screen (tower, bars, satellites icons etc) show?

Either the unit or the antenna is defective or you do not have a clear view of the sky.

Despite the antenna tower icon being lit up, and the number of satellites listed, you should still show one, two or three bars lit up to the right of the antenna tower icon.

As vblue says, something must be defective. Or the hookup of the antenna cable.

What should this screen look like in an ideal situation?

Posted May 23, 2011 · 01:23 UTC#18

For one thing, you should have at least one bar to the right of cell tower icon.

With the connection status screen live, try moving your antenna around, with metal plate under it, and see what happens. Wait a few seconds in each placement for the connection info to catch up and update (the bars I am talking about).

I just spent 2 days watching that screen. It jumps around from 0-3 bars on the cell tower and the red sats 7-10 yellow sats 0-3

I'll try to reposition the GPS antenna and see what happens.

Your report is encouraging news.

Talked to the shop where I bought it and they will swap it on Tuesday for a new one. I also talked with pioneer and they also advised to send it in for repair.

This is as has been foreseen by VBLUE42 earlier above. Good luck with the replacement unit, I am curious.

The stereo shop first moved my antenna outside on the roof (which did not help) then they wanted to hook up the speed pulse sensor but for some reason the radios harness did not have one (and on a side note the radio password protected itself and we couldn't unlock it), so they finally swapped it for a new one. It is better, the location is close when I'm driving (intersections and GPS location) but its still not right with parallel streets. The unit shows off ramps into a parallel road but as I take the off ramp it keeps me on the road that I was traveling on?? is there a setting that could be turned off on the x930bt so the unit doesn't try to (snap to or force its location) on a road?

What you are seeing is as good as it gets with these units.
