Great Find! This update has been highly anticipated. Actually, all Gracenote updates are highly anticipated.

I wasn't sure if this was the latest update, but I think it is....

check it out the link guys, let me know what the deal is

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 22:54 UTC#4

It's dated october 06. So my guess is that is the newest.

Are we all trying to download this all at the same time? It just waits and waits and times out. I can get to here:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... =E,00.html

And the CDDB update is from June.

I have yet to see this page load.

pioneers site often trips out like that.

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:01 UTC#7

Here ya go ducati, a snap shot from the page. Is it the newest?

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:04 UTC#8

Last update was 06010020, so this appears to be the latest version online.

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:07 UTC#9

Yep, I finally got it to load. It's weird that on the main Z1 page they still list the update as July 06 and version 20. When you click on the page you get a new update, version 30 released in October. I wonder if it's been like that and no one has noticed for 3 months.

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:08 UTC#10

IT's possible. The release date for the newest is october.

I can't believe that Rodge was the first one to notice that after months of people bitching that there was not an update, Pioneer people were just sitting back laughing thinking it's been out for months.

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:11 UTC#12

Could break down and call pioneer and ask.

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:14 UTC#13

like pioneer would know

Posted Jan 23, 2007 · 23:14 UTC#14

Very true. The op on the phone would probably just pull up the website and say june is the most recent.

Posted Jan 24, 2007 · 01:55 UTC#15

"hmmmm.... let me turn to the correct page in my pre-written script so I can answer your question..."

Posted Jan 24, 2007 · 03:45 UTC#16

what exactly is the gracenote update?

Is it for the songs you upload to the hard drive thru CD-R or CD-RW?

Thanks everyone. Im new here, trying to get the facts straight.

Well I'm pumped that was actually able to bring some info to the table, cuz you guys have helped me way more than I've helped you... Thanks for keeping a legit forum!! let's keep it rollin'

Gracenote is a database/catalog of information about music. Its for CDs that you load to the HD from store bought (real) CDs. The Z1 reads information off the CD and looks it up in the database to know the artist, album, song name, song length, etc.

The Z1 obviously doesn't know the album and song information for music released after it was made or in the future--so they use gracenote and have made the database upgradeable by download and burning onto to a CDR.

I was hoping for this update to fix some CDs that were wrong or unknown. It didn't work. Same old mistakes and unknown CDs. I wonder what when this "snapshot" of the Gracenote database was taken.

Actually, it will work automatically if you load a 1:1 CD-R/RW copy of an original CD. Even if it's not a 1:1 copy, let's say for instance you download an entire MP3 album from a torrent, after you burn the MP3s into an Audio-CD, the database will still name your album. When your CD-R/RW is inserted into the Z1, the album will start to record to the HDD. When it's complete, you can go into the library, select the album, and search the database for it. If the album was from the pre-October period, the database should find it and name the entire album. This method is not automatic but still will not require manually naming all the songs on the album.

Does that really work? I mean according to the way it identifies the CD, it seems that your compilation would have to be pretty exact, including the length of each track. If each mp3 had a couple of extra, or missing seconds, would it be enough to mess up the identification?

...software which identifies and looks up CDs based on TOC or "Table of Contents" information stored at the beginning of each disc. The TOC lists the offsets (locations on disk) corresponding to the start of each track on a CD.

It really does work some of the time. I was just referring to what it was meant for, which is original CDs

It looks to me like Pioneer CDDB is not complete or some sort different then original database. Because I have some CD’s, not new, that I can easily find in online version of Gracenote, but not exists in Pioneer.

what does this update do exactly?

Posted Jan 29, 2007 · 11:42 UTC#25

Adds the albums that were released since the last update. They obviously can't predict the future of the music industry
