Wow looks interesting, can't wait to see how this turns out.

Posted May 04, 2012 · 09:26 UTC#27

ok so have been giving this a lot of thought and figured id post up on how to do this.

first you need to jailbreak you phone. Then buy the tv out or display out app from cydia,the mimics module drivers, sb rotator and landscapelock.

you need to then purchase the mimics module from mp3car.com or customgadz

if you want to keep the radio functions you will need the oem switcher module they are fairly cheap and can be found on both sites.( not required if you just wanna use the the unit as a screen and touch panel)

once the module arrives you need to open up the unit and locate the touch ribbon and remove it, insert the ribbon into the module and find a way to secure it to the inside of the panel, then take the barrel connector and cut it off and strip the wires and solder the positive and negative to the radio harness positive and negative wires.

Not really worth destroying your app radio then if it is in warranty, since this is then a hardware solution it is basically useless and destroys a good unit, it is fine with just a touch screen unit but not the app radio, hence fail

And there may be a software only solution on the way, depending on how much I figure out over the weekend.

Hey mike, if there's any hardware you don't have, or you need others to test things for you, let us know. I'm sure you could find some people on the forums here willing to donate for a worthy cause :)

Funny that you only have 2 posts on the entire board, and you liken mike's work to being an "Immitator", when the stated name of other methods is "mimics". <_<

Trolls will be trolls, though.

Sorry to hear you give Mike that label. He is a nice and extremerly talented individual. Not nice. mimics copy pioneer functionality. Sorry for mistunderstanding.

Just curious, could you use a piece of software like "Switcher Rotator" to force landscape?

Just a thought, though. Perhaps you had a different direction in mind?

I know you aren't a troll -- I'm eagerly awaiting the hackradio.me, I just feel like both Mike's work and the mimics solution (if that's what it is) will both be high quality products. I just don't think mud needs to be slung in either direction :/

@hackradiome: Features:

Use AppRadio in two modes: Standart (AppRadio Advanced Mode) and HackRadio (Total iPhone Control)

@hackradiome: How it works: After install HackRadio pack you can use AppRadio's touchscreen as external touchscreen for your iPhone/iPod

@hackradiome: Installation is simply: Need to open your headunit and put HackRadio module inside (plug n play, no soldering cutting wires required), after that you need to install some HackRadio software from Cydia to your iPhone

@hackradiome: * Jailbreak Required

* *Tweaks Required: HackRadio, DisplayOut, SB Rotator

*** Cant use HandsFree (You can plug wired headset)

Posted May 17, 2012 · 13:32 UTC#46

if you cant use the handsfree it defeats the purpose of this all together, whats the point if I cant use the bluetooth option, totally pointless, also this will invalidate your warranty on the app radio.

Okay you can control the iphone from the touchscreen great but loose functionality of one of the most important parts of the unit, the handsfree bluetooth option for safe driving.

Sorry but total fail, Mikes option is by far the better option as it leaves the functionality intact.

If your unit is out of warranty maybe otherwise not a hope.
