When you are in the Pioneer web site looking at the z130bt map upgrade, open the z130bt upgrade page go to manuals and brochures page and open the installation manual and read it. it will tell you that it will change the features on your 130 to those of the 140. The page and chapters are directly from the install manual. Looks like Pioneer sent Nav Tech code to include with the maps. Here is the link, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Accessories/Map-Upgrades/NAVTEQ+2012+Map+Upgrade+for+AVIC-Z130BT,+AVIC-X930BT,+and+AVIC-X9310BT

Thanks for the link. That's where I ordered the map update. I guess an interpretation of what is contained there might be that the map update is really a Z130 to Z140 upgrade but I guess I mistakenly believed that upgrades like the Z110 to Z130 and Z130 to Z140 would be done through Pioneer. Guess I'll find out when the map update from Navteq arrives.

One final comment and then I'll shut-up. I went to the Pioneer map update link I did find the owner's manual and clicked on it. Lo' and behold, there was the manual for the Z140. It seems to me that Pioneer would have made the fact that this was an update to Z140 more obvious than finding out through clicking on the owner's manual. Anyway, Thanks for all the insights and I hope that I can be of assistance to others on the forum.

So you do understand its not just a map upgrade? I ask because I wasn't able to make sense of your last response.

so why do we have two different downloads for say the 920 and 930....this adds a layer of confusion. I have a 920 but I did take a software update last year for the 930 features....which do I get?

This is the z110-140 forum check the X series forum for info on them.

  • Can you upgrade the Z110BT firmware version 1.00100 to the newest software and still get all of the other features without upgrading to the 2010 and 2011 software and GUI interfaces?

Yes.

I purchased it over the weekend. I should get it Thursday. I can send the files to you if you can crack it.

I can't! I was just asking in this section if the site not knowing it had posted that you purchased it in the hacks section. I do have a friend that works at Best Buy, he is a computer genius and a car geek. I'm sure he can. If you'd like to send it to me I'll take it to him today.

I think its funny how people pay 120 dollars to say hey please hack this for everyone else to have for free. You know in the end some dude is going to be on ebay charging 50 dollars or something to sell that shit on ebay. 10 or 20 times over. Makes me sick. I ordered mine from navigation.com, I dont know why Pioneer went that route, but my guess is given the ipod integration in all the new cars and navigation built in all the new phones I dont see this market lasting much longer. Its a dying to dead business. I've seen the new Camry's and ford's, its getting pretty close to what we have withe z series. touch screen, usb plug ints of iphones/ipods. My next new car purchase won't be tagging my pioneer along. The whole concept of paying 120 dollars for a map upgrade every year, when I have my ihpone 4s with live maps onj ios 6 being pulled in over 3g or LTE lets say with iphone 5 seems pretty ridiculous. Just a thought.

I totally agree.

For anyone upgrading, I can offer the following advice which I learned the hard way.

When selecting your device on the Navteq website, make sure you choose your actual head unit model number, regardless if you have upgraded via firmware in the past.

I have a Z120BT and I stupidly chose Z130BT as my model number, thinking I should since I upgraded my Z120BT to a Z130BT last year with the CNSD-210FM update.

So, I got the Z130BT upgrade SD Card and it said it was the incorrect media for my device.

I had to sent it back to Navteq and order the Z120BT update which worked fine.

Get the one for your actual head unit. See my previous post explaining.

Incase you guys didn't se emy other post THE 2012 UPDATE WILL REMOVE VOICE SEARCH FOR POI'S AND ADDRESS! So prepare for a loss of features.

Posted Sep 07, 2012 · 02:29 UTC#46

So, in light of the update to Navteq maps and app radio, is there still any benefit to go from z130 to z140 if/when the update becomes available?

Other then the HD radio being built in and style/chassis differences there is zero difference between the features of the Z1xxxxx software upgrade to 2012 (4.00000)and the z140bh. I owend the z140bh and went to the z120bt because it still had voice recognition for address/poi. Now that has been removed from the z series with the 2012 upgrade (aka feature downgrade with newer maps)

Any noticeable difference on this map update for the Z130BT?

The XM icons for a few stations including Hits 1 and 20 on 20 are missing on my Avic. Does this map update take care of missing icons too?

Just updated my Z130BT to 2012 map version. The map update includes the new artwork logos on Sirius and XM stations. Added bonus.

Does that really work anyway? I think they eliminated it because that feature is a failure. About the only VM that works for me, is voice calling - and that is iffy.

I almost never had failures with VC for navi. It was iffy with iPod but worked fairly well as did voice dial. I feel that it is a fail that they removed it from the features of the unit. Interestingly enough Kenwood has done the same thing however with their 2012 units but theirs didn't work well at all for anything other then navi.
