:shock::cry:

I am actually optimistic about this. It may be a good thing. Mel Karamazin of Sirius knows how to market radio, and Sirius has the brand name, while XM has the technology and the content.

i dont think it will happen

when the FCC licensed the two companies, part of the their agreement was that one company could never own the other

I like it too. Hopefully someday I will be able to have a nice, two-line display for my sirius, and its superior content :D (except for baseball)

I wonder what this'll do to my lifetime sirius subscription. :-)

I wonder if the government will block it due to monopoly laws. No competitors.

Any ideas if this will become a doorstop?

Not quite:

While it is true that one could never own the other, it says in the article that "Federal licenses for the satellite services prohibit one entity from owning them. However, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin has said the licenses could be altered, if requested. "

besides i do not think there is a monopoly. there is competition, free radio vs sat radio. At this point in the game why would Sat Radio try to be a bully and raise rates to exhorberant amounts? Then we would all cancel and try out HD Radio (right) LOL

I will be positive about this. I just hope Hoo Hoo Howard's 500million+ contract won't mean the end to both.

Posted Feb 19, 2007 · 20:55 UTC#11

If XM has any brains, they will cancel Howard's Contract as part of the merger.

Posted Feb 19, 2007 · 20:58 UTC#12

Looked like Howard might be thinking of leaving anyways. He must have knew this was coming. He just got engaged, he is grooming Bubba the Love Sponge to take over for him, by letting him do Friday morning shows while he is off.. Maybe he knows he needs to leave, or he knows they will can him.

Posted Feb 19, 2007 · 21:22 UTC#13

i dont think they will can him

The CEO of siruis is still the CEO. He was the one that made the big push for him and i dont think he would let stern go easy

Hey T, maybe Pioneer can start working on an ip-bus XM/Sirius Satellite TV tuner since Sirius unveiled the service at CES :-D

Posted Feb 19, 2007 · 23:55 UTC#15

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, I just want one that gives me the song name and artist at the same time :D

LOL Jump to the dark side for now and get the GEXP10XMT ;)

Already have it. Even with the crappy display, I like Sirius better--but the XM saves me some time in traffic once in a while. Other times it gets me stuck, but you can't win them all

MY WHOLE WORLD HAS BEEN SHATTERED.

I wonder what its going to do to the normal subscription.

Although a die-hard sirius fan, I do want the cool display of XM.

There is a joint merger tele-conference this morning. You can listen live via XM Channel 200, or I believe Sirius Channel 122, 8:30AM this mornin (in 15 minutes). I will be recording it to share if anyone wants. I really hope they talk about the rumored a'la carte pricing, what will happen with content and hardware, and of course, the new company name (which I believe will remain Sirius Satellite Radio. Although I like XM better as a name, cause it fits in line with am radio, fm radio, and of course, their slogan: "Beyond AM..Beyond FM... Sirius Satellite Radio" just wouldnt work LOL )

Posted Feb 20, 2007 · 16:09 UTC#21

If you have the recording I'd be interested in hearing it. Unfortionately I was in modern physics at 8:30 this morning.

Posted Feb 20, 2007 · 16:16 UTC#22

give me an hour or so. I will upload it for hosting. It was about 50-someodd minutes long. I am not too happy with what I heard. Maybe I should sell my GEXP10XMT and my Pioneer Inno while they will still be worth something LOL

Posted Feb 21, 2007 · 17:15 UTC#23

that bad huh? I missed it. Glad I'm not paying for the service, nor did I have to shell out for the unit. the positive side is I finally found a country station on xm I can listen to and enjoy.

Posted Feb 21, 2007 · 20:00 UTC#24

theres a Q & A on http://www.xmradio.com if anyone wants to read it.

Posted Feb 21, 2007 · 20:08 UTC#25

Yeah I read it, it says absolutely nothing.
