No. I'm thinking one port will be used for App Mode and the other for Car Play.

There's no hack required. I use proclipusa cradles.
Ah didn't realize there were actually cradles that cables could be fitted in. Those are pretty pricey though. Looks like there are other options though. Thanks!

Neither port is used for appmode, appmode uses hdmi or rgb and bt, i can't see where you can use appmode and carplay. No way to hook both up at same time.

Of course there is. Car Play will use USB so there is no reason the two cant be used on one unit.

I think what he's saying is if you have one iphone, you can only have appmode or carplay hooked up. You can't physically do hdmi and USB at the same time.
