I've had my AVIC 6000 in for 2 months now and no issues until this weekend.  I went to navigation and got the message on the attached photo.  My first thought was that maybe the GPS antenna wire was binding somewhere and had been pinched or cut or possibly came unplugged.  I pulled the head unit yesterday and it was fine.  I even did a reset of the system and it did nothing to help.  Any suggestions?

Here is another screen shot.  I wish I could remember what it showed before the GPS went out.

I spoke with someone from Pioneer and he said it sounded like something was wrong.  Well duh!  I'm going to give Crutchfield a plug.  I ordered the stereo from them over 2 months ago.  They are sending me a new one instead of having me return it to Pioneer even though it is passed the time that they have to do that and instead of me sending the bad one back first, they are sending the replacement immediately.

could just be a defective GPS antenna...

I have the exact message and the same issue on a AVIC 8000 NEX.  Tried the same things, reset, checked the wiring, no issues.  The head unit is less than 2 weeks old.  Anyone find a solution to the issue or is this really something that will require Pioneer to repair?

im going thru the same thing the solution is to call pioneer and mail it back to be fixed

I had this as well on my 5000 over the weekend. Weird. I shut the car off and then turned it back on 30 secs later and it worked with no problem.

yeah put if you go to the map screen it should say surching or something like that and if you do a reset your time and date will be off.

Mine says something to the effect of looking for GPS signal.  And mab6680 I think your correct about the time.  My time reset and it appears as though it can't be set manually.  I take it that it gets the time from the satellite?  I tried everything I could think of to fix it but nothing I have done so far resolved the issue.  I unplugged the wiring harness, hit the reset button, no joy. :(

yup i went thru the same thing gotta call pioneer and set up a warranty appointment to have it fixed. mine has been in there hands for two weeks now and still nothing but in repair process on there site

I had the same thing happen to my brand new unit, NEX6000, only 2 weeks old , had it swapped out for a new unit.

The same thing happened to my Avic-7000nex this morning.  I installed the radio on Friday and today Tuesday it had the same problem:

Drove the whole way to work without the GPS working, same errors as pictured above.  When I got to work I turned my car off and back on and the radio seemed OK after that, but after spending $800+ on a radio, I'm wondering if I should just exchange it where I bought it (as I'm still within the return period window).

Any recommendations?

maybe contact pioneer or the place you bought it?

Thanks, that was my feeling.  I was just wondering if it happened to anyone else, is it a 'one time event'   or should I be concerned that this may be an intermittent problem?

Its just that if I could get an advanced exchange, its a no brainer to swap it out (as I'd assume the GPS antenna wire is OK) as I'd just keep all the existing wires in place (wiring harness, pbrake wire, tachometer wire, reverse indicator, gps antenna and bluetooth mic).   But if I had to uninstall everything, only to get a new one and redo everything, thats a 2-3 hours of cumulative labor I'd like to avoid.

I just have no confidence that it won't happen again.

Did you install yourself?

Did you install yourself?

I did.  And everything was working fine from last Friday through Monday when I got home.  Woke up this morning, started up the car and got that error.

I've installed all my own stereos, car auto starters etc for the past almost 20 years, so this isn't my first time through the process.  The install went smooth and up until today, everything was fine.

If that is the case, do a quick run through of your install just to be sure nothing is screwy with the GPS antenna/connection. I am sure you have tried a hard reset of the system already?

Contacting pioneer is just going to result in them telling you to send it in for warranty repair. If I was in your shoes I would go to the shop you made the purchase at and talk to them about it. They could be helpful or try to push the blame onto you as you did the install on your own since they didn't get the easy money from doing the install, but hopefully that isn't the case.

Hope you can get it sorted quickly man. Must be a real drag to have a big part of the system non-functional.

I'll double check all my connections, and unseat / reseat the GPS antenna (I had to pull the unit out anyway to install a newly acquired ultra thin HDMI cable).

I didn't try the hard reset, but I'll do that if the above didn't change anything.  So far it was a one off occurance but I've only started the car twice since I had the issue (once this morning,  issue present, then got to work... shut the car off then back on to see ...and it was ok).

does it still say autodetecting gps? is your time/date wrong

does it still say autodetecting gps? is your time/date wrong

This morning when it happened, I hadn't tried the hard reset,  so the clock was still accurate from yesterday when it was still able to 'see' the GPS hardware.  It did say "autodetecting gps receiver" my entire commute in, and when I dug into the settings of the GPS, I remember the first line said something like "GPS Status" and the status was "NOK" (assuming to mean NOT OK).

Got to work, turned off the ignition.  Start the car back and and everything seemed ok.  It said "searching for GPS signal" at the top instead of "autodetecting gps receiver" but I was in the parking deck so that made sense.

.....

OK just went out for lunch and the radio is operating normally.  GPS fully functional now.   Still worried that if it randomly happened 4 days post-install, that it could happen in another 4 days, a week, whenever!

Quick update,  +1 day since the incident occurance and the unit has been fine ever since.  I will be pulling it out over the next day or 2 to install an HDMI cable for app radio purposes, and will reseat the GPS antenna wire at that time.

Crossing my fingers it continues to be ok.  One more error like this and its getting exchanged.

So the unit has performed flawlessly over the past week +, so I'll chock it up to a one-off event.  And if it comes back, well then I have the warranty.

Enjoying the unit over all (playing around with app radio, HDMI input etc) and just await airplay.

Thanks for all the replies earlier.

Just a heads up when i sent my 7000 in for repair i did not send in anything but the radio i left all the wiring in the car and had no problems from pioneer because of it

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday on my 8000 NEX. Like the other poster, the problem went away after turning the car off and back on.

Unnerving, to say the least.
