Spotify worked well once I logged in. Apparently there is no good way for apps to report errors like that to the user, so you just get no content.

Music was fine. Maps was a little twitchy, but it did notice that I was very likely heading to work and offer up a route. I wonder if it will integrate with the calendar in the same way.

Podcasts though, egad. Apple, you need to actually let the dev that owns this app fix some bugs. I had to force quit the app just to get it to play anything. I'll be happy when someone like Instacast is allowed to integrate.

Thanks! Can I use the SD port? I really don't want to have to pull the unit.

Got any tips on pulling the unit out safely? I'm 99% sure my installers connected my lightningbolt cable to the USB 2 port on my 8000. I won't be able to bring the car in to the audio shop for atleast a week due to my work schedule.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Dropbox has shutdown the links due to excessive traffic...Sorry!

Here is the 1.06 (CarPlay) update file for the 8000NEX ONLY!!! DO NOT use it with any other model of NEX!!! READ and FOLLOW the instructions (also linked below). I don't want to be held responsible for anyone bricking their units!

Also, I ask that no one on this forum shares the link... let's keep it to this community of enthusiests. I don't want my Dropbox account being shut down due to high traffic! :-)

Mods, if posting this link violates any forum polices, let me know and I will remove it.

Sorry guys... Dropbox has shut down my 8000NEX update links due to excessive traffic!  If someone has a personal ftp server, that would be the best way to share them.

Mine is still running, shows 9 minutes left.

Yes

Cool

Yes... CarPlay will not work if connected using the Digital AV Adapter. The Lightning cable must be plugged directly in to USB1.

Bummer guess I'm pulling the HU anyway.

Mine is in an e53 BMW X5 It is not horribly hard, removal depends on the car it's in.

There should be a set of removal keys in the box it came in.

I have been painstakingly trying to download the 5000, 6000, 7000 firmware for the last two hours now.  If it ever does complete, I will at the very least upload it to a torrent site which should help much better than a simple FTP server.

Thanks to all of the feedback from all of you that have managed to get this downloaded and installed already.  I know that we have all been itching to get our hands on this for quite some time.

Working on 8000 with iPhone 6+ iOS 8.0.2

Heads up... the icons should be more spaced out.  This happened to me once, too.  Restart your phone and will appear properly!

Download is done, I have not been able to get the instructions. Do I need to freshly format the sd card a certain way/have the file in/out of a folder/name the folder some way?

Thanks!

I have a weird small issue, when on the main CarPlay screen on my 4000nex it doesn't properly space the app icons on the screen. They are squished to the left. And when I try switching the CarPlay settings on the radio to right hand drive it still keeps everything squished to the left and just updates the position of the home button. All apps when open use the full screen. Anyone else have this issue?

Used for a little while - not a fan honestly. Maps isn't great, and Spotify doesn't work correctly either. It seems to play whatever it feels like playing and won't let me select a new playlist. My steering wheel controls work fine and let me skip next or go back but that's about it.. Anyone else having spotify issues? I'm running iOS 8.0.2 and the newest version of Spotify as of today.

I had 11 minutes left to go when the download bombed.  I attempted to resume but the download started from the beginning again.  Looks like another 2 hours to go, at least.

Restart your iPhone, and possibly your car.  This happened to me once, and doing this worked.

Do you have to use USB1 for CarPlay?

yes

Looks like Pioneer's site is STILL having problems. Here's a mirror to my personal FTP server to help out my fellow NEXers. Please DO NOT PUBLISH link outside of avic411.com

and same for my Google Drive

the downloaded file indicates a AVIC5000NEX folder,  this is correct for the 8000?

It is correct for the 8000NEX.  Pioneer's installation instructions even reference this mistake.

I will try restarting my phone. As for the car, do you mean reset the unit to factory settings or just turn it off and back on?

Just turn the car off and then back on... it is the only way I know of to reboot the NEX :-)

Got the download for the 5000/6000/7000 at last.

To recap: only USB/Lightning cable in USB1 to use CarPlay (if you have a VGA- or HDMI-Lighting AV adaptor Carplay doesn't work...right??)

Can I use a 30 pin USB cable in USB2 to connect an older iPod?

Please let me know...thanks

The first part is definitely correct. I can't vouch for the second part, but I have heard others say that this works.

Up and running with Car Play ... had pull some dash and console panels to get behind unit to swap USB connections to USB 1 and get thumb drive connected to USB2.  Interface for music looks great ... will only use Maps in a pinch.  Message feature with Siri is cool. Wish they had the same with email.
