I have converted. I love the knob--Its like a new toy that I can't stop playing with :D even though I have a remote. It has the perfect amount of resistance to it, I can turn the D3 up and down at lightning speed with it, I can mute with it, I can change sources with it, I can make the map go away with it, and best of all, I can hang up on people with it. Its quite a glorious knob

well I guess it just comes down to taste or(settling for what you just paid 1,000 bucks for!) You can't argue that the unit would look worse if it was symetrical, because you would be wrong. THEREFOR, it safe to say that the unit would look better if it WAS symetrical....

But maybe I'm one of the few that wants everything in his car to look perfect, and clean... not off-center

get over it.

So then your steering wheel is in the center of the car right? Along with the pedals too? Or do you have a steering wheel on both sides of the car and a gauge cluster too?

Symmetrical in a car? Yeah right never happen. THere's almost nothing symmetrical in a car.

are you kidding me??

Right, the student driver vehicle.... I bet the Nav units in those are symetrical.....

pioneer designed it for the convenience of the driver not to reach across as far. I think it's not a bad idea, but i do see what your saying.

But all in all its driver orientated, buttons closer to the drive making buttons easier to read too.

Knobs and buttons are almost always placed on the driver side.

Just look at the HU's for Japan's domestic market. If they are asymmetrical, the knob and controls are usually on the right side since they are right-hand drive.

I pretended my D1 was a D3 and I don't think your hand would block the screen hardly at all unless you have really fat blubbery fingers. In fact, the screen is blocked much more when reaching for the right side. Try it and see.

I can see the volume # when I am turning it up and down. Not sure what else you would need to see on the screen for that split second it takes you to reach over

Sit in the drivers seat of an F-350 and you'll be glad the knobs on the left hand side. The dash is just a wee bit wider than the ones most of you are dealing with!

Yeah by about 3 feet or so

Same goes for my Tahoe...the driver side buttons were a selling point for me!
