Can someone with the unit clarify the video side of the ipod, it states on the Pioneer website (use ipod for full control) Can the touchpanel be used to go through and play video or does it have to be done through the ipod itself.

you cannot play videos through the ipod connection. You need RCA cables to do that.

I was under the impression that the D3 controlled the video in some compacity. Some of the pics of the ipod screen show a video button in the top right corner of the screen I was hoping this had something to do with that, I have the rca setup with my Z1 and I I hate it, I was hoping someone finally integrated video into a direct connection with full controls scenario

**pioneers description makes it sound as if video can be controled from the touch screen (quoted below)

Connect and direct your iPod®

How much music and video can you bring to your AVIC-D3? That depends on how deep your iPod® library is. In addition to the built-in arsenal of multimedia playback options, Pioneer iPod-ready navigation systems like the AVIC-D3 make integrating your iPod® simple with the optional CD-I200 iPod® connector. And control of your iPod® music and video library is quick and seamless via touch screen control of the intuitive graphic menu. Once you try the AVIC-D3’s iPod® playback, you’ll be using it to play all of the songs, podcasts, and videos you can get your hands on.**

Amazing since the topic says D3 at any rate what's with the s/n change?

You need the ipod to start playing the movie. After that, you can use the touchscreen to go to other movies and chapters, just as if you were going through songs but you DO need access to the ipod to start playing initially

yeah i know. But after answering so many questions, everything starts becoming a blur

I was trying to see how it would feel to be a newbie again, and since i call all newbies coochos, thats my new sn.

Makes sense I guess.

WHT - Thanks, that is what I was looking for that was the final deciding factor in getting rid of the z1 for the D3 done deal.

Has anyone actually hooked up video ipod w/ CD-I200 and played a movie with this connection? The A/V store I went to this evening told me the only unit with a direct connect from an Ipod cable regarding video, is Kenwood, with their KCA-IP300V. He claims that with the Pioneer connection, I'd be good to go audio-wise, but when I want to play a video, I have to unplug the Ipod, and plug in a cable with A/V connections, and operate from the Ipod itself, although that cable doens't charge the Ipod. What's the real deal?

By the way, I played with both the D3, and the Kenwood DNX7100..tough choice...I can get the D3 for $895, and the Kenwood for about $1450... the Kenwood is a pretty hot unit....much different than the former generation....cooler skin, USB, great Ipod interface, brilliant screen, Garmin Nav (looks a little cartoonish, but I'm used to it from my C330)... if it wasn't such a big money difference, the decision would be easier.

You should know better that to listen to a salesman. I have the D3 and the CDI200. It plays movies fine, no disconnecting and reconnecting other cables. Here is a quick tutorial. From the ipod screen on the D3 touchscreen, there is a button that says 'movies.' You press that and it gives you a message about using the ipod for control. You reach in your console or glovebox or whereever it is, grab your ipod, find what movie you want on your D3, and press play on the ipod. Then you put your ipod back away and control everything from the D3 (chapter up/down, fast forward, etc is all done from the touchscreen.) As for charging, it comes out of the box set to charge your ipod through the cable. You can turn it off if you want, but I doubt many people will do that

That's why I love this forum...you get the facts, and not the horsesh*t. Gracias, Amigo.

ok.. i am little slow today even after WHTCRXGHST great explanation.

Here is my question. I have tons of music videos on ipod, will i be able to select a different video through the D3 touch screen or will i have to use the IPOD everytime to change music videos? I don't mind hitting play on the IPOD once at the beggining to get it going but if i have to use the IPOD everytime to change music videos, that will be annoying.

Thanks in advance...

Yes, you need to place your various videos in a playlist in itunes, this will allow you to skip to different videos without having to access the ipod every-time you want a different video. I have a playlist called AVIC-D3 for this purpose on my ipod.

Posted Apr 05, 2007 · 01:54 UTC#17

so will you be able to see a list of the videos on your playlist and skip to whatever video you want to watch by clicking on the D3 screen to play that video or will you only be able to click NEXT to play the next video on the playlist?

Posted Apr 05, 2007 · 04:53 UTC#18

You will not see a list, you will only be able to skip back and fourth to what ever movie you want to watch. When you hit VIDEO under the ipod interface on the D3, it will tell you to use the ipod control to start play. At that point, pick up the ipod and it will already be on the movies screen. Navigate to you playlist and select the movie you want to start with. Then use the D3 skip buttons to navigate through the videos from there. This process starts over once you turn the unit off or switch sources.

Posted Apr 05, 2007 · 16:44 UTC#19

hmm.. not sure if i want the D3 anymore. I really wanted 2 things, one is a split screen and other is to play my hundreds of music videos by just clicking on the video i want like playing a mp3...oh well.. the search continues

thanks for the information...

That is odd that they didn't integrate this fully. They certainly could have.

Probably some kind of legal crap to cover their own ass.

Posted Apr 05, 2007 · 18:57 UTC#21

Yea, the new kenwood unit interface allows you to select from the whole movies section of the ipod just as if your were using the ipod. It shouldn't have been hard for pioneer to do the same. This is about the only imperfection on the ipod interface for the D3 that i have found as far as features.

Does this work for ALL Ipods? I have a 30gig Video Ipod purchased new from Circuit City 2 weeks ago. When I create a music video playlist, and start the first video in the playlist, it shows as "1 of 1". When I create music playlists, they display as "1 of 30" (assuming I had 30 songs in the playlist).

Long story short, I cant go from video to video using the Avic.

I tried to be tricky, and added some music videos into an existing music only playlist. Didnt work.

With that in mind..what am I doing wrong?

Posted May 02, 2007 · 03:47 UTC#23

Dont know!!! I have the same ipod you do and I can select different videos form the D3 as long as there in a playlist. I never have done it with music videos per say but I dont see why it would matter. I do have to say that the D3 video support as far as the ipod is concerned is about as crude and rudimentary as it gets tho.

Far from it. Have you seen VW's ipod integration?

Posted May 02, 2007 · 15:22 UTC#25

You have to set the D3 to video in order for it to play video from the ipod. Anything else will just get audio.

You can however, setup video playlists. I have a movies, music videos, and tv shows playlist. When I hit video, I choose a playlist and it plays. I can then use the remote to skip videos within the same playlist.
