Lets cross our fingers the the 2 wire bypass will work.

Posted Jul 11, 2007 · 00:58 UTC#27

If the bypass were to work. Is is *possible* to just get the image from someone else and overwrite the files on my Z1 with them? Or does Pioneer use some sort of s/n matching scheme and require an update DVD?

Once it's confirmed that replacing the hard drive with this image enables the bypass, then it'll get uploaded to a torrent somewhere. There's no point in doing it till it's verified.

A few ppl have the image already, and are testing it, so just be a little bit more patient.

Well, basically, if it's not the flasher or 2-wire, we're in the same place we were with the old Z2. I keep seeing people posting "the june z2 bypass works! some guy promised me!" but not saying WHAT the bypass is....

Damn, that sucks. So does that mean that the June 2007 models also don't bypass :?: Also, I read in another forum a person claiming that if the parking brake wire was flashed at boot up it would bypass. I don't have a Z2 to try it on at the moment, and I could not find on another forum whether it was tried or not.

Hyperite, have you tried the brake flash x times on boot yet? I would be trying this too but my truck is in the shop for other reasons... Get it back by next Monday, so can assist at that point...

Cheers

Don't have the brake hooked up.

but i'm skeptical of that working.... sounds like someone somewhere just had an idea and thought "hey i'll suggest this!"

Just to give you an update, there's about 5 guys that got my image, and I still don't have any details on if it worked or not.

Patiently awaiting my install hehe.

The image works fine, but it works like the pre-June ones. I haven't had a chance to pull my wiring to do the 2-wire hookup to test, but I checked over the filesystem and nothing jumped out at me as a place to set something to enable a bypass.

I think the 2 wire is the big test Hyperite. That's the bypass the rumor says will work. I'm sure you'll get to find out soon!

Let's hope for the best!!!

CONFIRMED- The June Z2 software DOES NOT bypass the lockouts with the 2-wire method.

:( Guess we'll have to keep digging in the software

Oh can somebody confirm if the drive is locked from the manufactory?

Thanks,

H

Yes, it comes locked from Pioneer, according to the other forums on this site.

Posted Jul 15, 2007 · 23:42 UTC#40

I had to pay to get the drive unlocked. Unit was never powered up.

No, he was waiting for some interior pieces to install it, but it's pretty unlikely.

but the motor on the bottom has a small worm gear. You can spin that with a screwdriver until the screen is about 1/2 way down, then just gently pull it the rest of the way.

Do you need to remove the bezel around the LCD to get to the worm drive? Does anyone have pics of the worm drive or links to pics of power-off drive removal?

I have a fresh, new June Z2 that I have not powered on yet. Please help.

No pics, but why do you want to pull your drive?

Posted Jul 31, 2007 · 15:38 UTC#45

I was kind of wondering about that too, now that hyperITE has come up with the good bypass, it seems almost worthless to unlock a Z2 drive. Especially making sure it's never been booted up before. Just power it on, and open the face and pull it out. I think Rage2 has already shown the effort to yank it not powered up doesn't yield much extra over letting it power up once.

It isn't installed yet, it's sitting here on my desk, so I have no power to the unit. I have time to mod it, but no power, so I was hoping to mess around with the drive mod.

I want to add a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST980815A 80GB 5400 RPM

Ambient Temperature

Operating 0 to 60 degrees C

Nonoperating -40 to 70 degrees C

Shock

Operating Shock (max) 350 Gs at 2 msec

Nonoperating Shock (max) 800 Gs at 2 msec

The Seagate also has slightly better specs than the Toshiba automotive drive
