How long is the boot up?

I am looking to buy one of these HU's and wonder exactly how long the boot up is. I am debating between the Z1 and the Eclipse AVN6600.

The boot up from car off to audio playing is probably 8 seconds (it's probably 15 seconds till the screen is "on" so you can see the AV screen to change what was playing when you turned off the car). The worse case is if you turn the music off and have the Z1 on "NAV" and turn the car off. Then when it boots up the music is off and it has to boot to nav first, then you have to hit ok past a disclaimer screen and then hit AV to turn on the AV and turn on the music. That's probably 20 seconds.

But boot up time wouldn't make or break the deal for me buying this unit.

This one uses a hard drive for nav (20 gigs of data). You can store music to the hard drive. Z1 can have bluetooth phone. The lockouts on the Z1 are easily bypassed so everything is available all the time. I don't know about the eclipse. The Z1 has a bigger screen. There are a lot of things the Z1 has (even though there are some short commings). From what I gather, the short commings are not any worse than the eclipse. The Alpine is pretty awesome and some would say better than the Z1, but it's more expensive and has more parts to install (the head unit and nav are 2 different units).

Good luck on your decision.

I agree with Ducatiboy, hopefully boot up time won't be your decision maker on this one. From my perspective the Z1 gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Pioneer is a reputable brand that has been around forever, and I think you will find that for the features that are offered (including the NavTraffic option) it will be hard to beat.

I am sorry but I have had two Z1 and they both took 30secs+ regardless of AV or NAV setting, I am waiting on my 3rd to arrive. If they truly can boot up in 8 secs I would like to know the trick.

The Z1 is great and the boot up is just a little annoying but everything else is perfect. If there was a better choice out there I would take it but the slow boot up is not enough for me to buy an inferior product for the same price.

I am sorry as well. But depending on what you are listening to will depend on what comes on. And I haven't done any timing past about 10 seconds.

If you put the AV on AM/FM and you turn the car off, and then back on, the AV screen won't be up that fast, but the radio will start playing after 8 seconds (it might be 10). You get music that fast, but the AV screen hasn't finished booting up.

Sat/Ipod/CD take a little longer, maybe 10 seconds from bootup till music comes out of the speakers, but it's another 5-10 seconds I would say till I can do anything.

If you are on the nav screen when you shut down it takes longer. If you put the screen on some AV feature, it will come up quicker. Even on Nav it takes 20-30 seconds. I'm just guessing. Maybe I should time it some day.

just timed mine:

Time from turning on the key till:

You hear music: 9 seconds
You see the AV screen: 19 seconds
You see the NAV screen 25 seconds.

It's longer than I was expecing, but now that my boot up screen is a Lincoln logo with "Americal Luxury" I don't mind looking at it. :)

And there was no "trick", it's just how much functioned from day one.

Thanks! I can deal that boot-up time. It's the music I was concerned about and that bootup time is fine.

Thanks for doing that!

I actually went out and tested mine. The music starts as soon as the "pioneer" logo pops up during the boot up....less than 5 seconds. Also, I have complete control of the radio during the boot up with my steering wheel controls. And it was booting to the NAV map.

However, I didn't time mine from the time I turned the key. I timed it from the time the lights first came on on the Z1. You could add 3 or 4 seconds if you wanted it timed from the time you turn the key. I believe Ducatiboy is dead on his times he has posted.

How did you get a custom boot up logo? I think that will keep me busy while waiting for the load, a nice pic of Jessica Alba or somethin while I wait for it to boot up, lol.

I posted a little here:

It's pretty dangerous and you might end up with a $2K door stop. If you are really good at computer stuff, you can try it, but it's not a recommended procedure.

Pulp_fiction and cirerbus (some day I'll learn that user's name) are the real guys working on this. I just read a lot of the HDD threads and took a shot and it paid off. Maybe I was lucky. But for a few hours, I had a nav system that would not turn on. Really not for the faint of heart.

Yah, I could stare at Jessica Alba for quite a while too.... she is not for the faint of heart either. :)
