I was trying to play through Netflix and Hulu on my iPhone, but it just wouldn't play. Maybe I'll try something a fire stick or something.

to update the firmware via the CarAVAssist app you have to turn off the input source first.

to do this, swipe across to 'all' the buttons (not the main pioneer tile UI) and then choose Source OFF.

then you can update the firmware via the app.

this is detailed in the firmware upgrade notes.

if Siri sounds like shes calling you on a telephone this is due to the bluetooth profile selected by the head unit for two-way communication. i have occasionally had a bug on both this head unit and my old non-carplay unit where music audio would get 'down mixed' to phone-quality audio because the head unit was stuck on the incorrect bluetooth profile.

Dropouts/cutting out of wireless carplay audio is, in my experience, Wifi/2.4ghz interference. I drive on a motorway with RFID toll gates and driving past them will cause wifi audio to cut out. if you go through a bigger gate or its longer than say 20 sec (slow traffic) it will drop the connection altogether. Similarly there is an area near my house that is drenched in RF interference and it will totally knock out carplay audio and even the control inputs back to the phone (skip track, siri etc)

I have the Australian/asia localised version of the 4660NEX - the DMH-z6350BT and I too have the issue where carplay does not start automatically. as suggested, clearing the 'warning' screen by tapping OK is successful all of the time. at this stage it looks like its a bug with iOS 14.3 or with Pioneer, at this stage I would say Pioneer since the limited options for carplay on the phone itself dont directly influence carplay start up, only access to the device.

I discovered hdmi works best with bluetooth and carplay turned off.

Is anyone using wired Carplay? I get a message on the screen that says "No Response" when I plug in my iPhone. I'm currently using the included USB C to USB A adapter going to a USB to factory wiring interface (can't remember the name) to the OEM USB port. The next step is a USB C to USB A cable while still using the interface and OEM plug. If that doesn't work I'll try a USB C to Lightning cable.

The phone is a XS with the latest update.

I have used the stereo's USB-C and C-A adapter and then a regular Apple USB-A lightning cable and it works fine.

Make sure settings\face id & passcode\USB accessories  is turned on maybe

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I figured out that the head unit will boot to Apple CarPlay every single time as long as you leave an app running in full screen mode.

if you use the mult-app view (eg. spotify, maps in split view) it will not return to that screen on next boot.

no where is this documented in the manual or the CarPlay documentation from Apple.

also, Firmware 2.0 is out.

Well, my first impression of the first 8600 was an open box from Crutchfield. install was a breeze for me. I was unable to get the CarPlay to work properly and just figured I wasn't doing something correct. I was able to upgrade to V2.0 and it seemed to get better. Also, when I tried to update to V2,1, couldn't gets the update to update again. I wasnt able to get Car Play to work very well ever, Same goes for trying to use the AV assist app to work properly, long story short, CF swapped out the open item with a brand new unit, After the swapped, everything works as it should, no connectivity issue with the new unit. still for the top of the line Pioneer unit, the sofware is very dodgie and slow at times. This unit should operate without any flaws, This show also when you spend $1500 bucks should be topnotch

I have had connection issues since updating to iOS 15.4.1 on my phone. I hate when Apple releases a fix that screws something else up

I wanted to come back for an update. I updated my Iphone to 15.4.1 If you are having connections issues with Carplay and CarAVAssist ,go to settings on your Iphone, scroll down to the CarAVAssist app and check to make sure cellular data is on(showing green). For some reason I guess when I updated to IOS 15.4.1 it defaulted to OFF. Since I enabled it, I have no connection issues and the 3.0 update started almost immediately. As far as the 3.0 update, I don't see alot of difference

Are you still able to use the brake bypass with the 10 second press on both sides of the screen with the 3.0 update? I wanna update, but I’m worried I’ll lose that. Thanks.
