I'm not sure if this has already been brought up but I did a search and didn't find anything about it so here it goes. Pioneer has an update for our Z1's CDDB! I just so happened to be snooping around the Pioneer website when I spotted it. All you do is download the ZIP file, extract it, and burn it to a CD-R. Here's the link: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 79,00.html

Nice find!

Now, has anyone done this update and verified that the flashing bypass still works?

You're the circuit master, I may be the one with the big balls, but they're not that big! You go first!

By looking at the extracted files, it appears that all the file names have "CDDB" in the name which should have no affect the bypass. I have the balls to do it I just have to wait till I get home to try it.

I gotta tell you Steve....that's what has me nervous about any updates. But I think Pioneer wants a bypass out there. It sells units. Quite honestly, I wouldn't have bought one if it couldn't be done. I'd have gone with some other system.

so.. i just finished the dl.... anyone try updating it yet and seeing if the bypass still works?

Looks safe.. takes about 20 minutes to actualy do the update, screen tells you NOT TO TURN OFF... yup, 20 minutes!

other than that, doesn't appear to affect anything else
Posted Jul 20, 2006 · 17:54 UTC#11
Is it worth doing? What new things have you noticed?
Posted Jul 20, 2006 · 17:56 UTC#12
I'll need to upload some of the stuff that wouldn't get recognized first... dunno what the differences are

Wow that's a long time to look at that update screen.

Sweet. Good to know. You do have the big balls (and floppy). Thanks for "taking one for the team".

sweet, thanks!

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if you realize, but I think this is a breakthrough. Basically giving you an entry to copy files onto the hard drive. I'm assuming all this does is overwrite the original database.

What do you guys think?

I just did the upgrade... what a difference it makes in the CDDB... It found all 9 of my cd's that it had no clue about it before. Good, verified the bypass still works for those curious..lol DO IT, DO IT NOW!!

Maybe this is the wrong forum, but does anyone know if Z1 HDDs are interchangeable? If so this might not really be a problem.. :P

How did you guys get the upgrade to work? I have tried two different CDRs and they do not work. It just stops on CD-ROM injected. I used Roxio to burn the CDR.

I used nero, burned all the files to the root folder, and made sure that it was set to finalize the cd. The cd has to be finalized, if it's not the update will probably fail.

Look around your program for the Disc-at-once settings and make sure that its set to finalize.

Hope that helps.

The directions stated not to create folders...just burn the files onto the disk.
Posted Jul 21, 2006 · 11:19 UTC#22
They also say to burn it in Joliet mode. Some times the file format of a cd rom can be joliet and windows mode. I know you can change it in nero, but I'm not sure how to do it in roxio, but I'll bet you can.

Thanks for the reply. Soon as I hit the submit button I saw my Nero on the desktop and felt stupid. I burned the CD and it worked. Thanks again though.

It is just an update that does take 20 min. you are able to turn the car off and it will simple start were it left off. And it does not effect Ducatiboy's circut.

Finally getting around to updating it. It will take 20 minutes and since that would kill my commute tomorrow morning, I'm doing it in the driveway. Of course since the Z1 draws 2 amsp, and I don't want to kill my battery, I'm running it off a battery charger while it's sitting there.
