That looks Cool!
You will have a make a ISO of the stock Nav DVD.
Once the iso is made, open it using ultra ISO or equivilant.
Replace one of the stock gauges with your custom guage then save the iso, and burn it. -
There sould be a physical "memo" button on the unit, just press and hold that until it beeps, you just saved the current song.
-
Cool, sounds like your making good progress. You used the Bigtracks logo I posted right? It shows up grayscale? Stupid color thing...
-
Any progress on the logos? I would test it myself, but I have run out of every kind of burnable DVD in my house. Heh... Maybe i'll "BORROW" some from school.
My installer insists that isn't the case on the install. But, even so that doesn't explain the abysmal navigation. And if the problem were just "car nav" then all the companies units would be bad, but the 700 I used for comparison is cheaper and better. Car nav is something I have been using for years now. But never have I spent so much on anything that navigates so poorly...expect for perhaps one of my ex-girlfriends. But even they know 70 is faster than 35 and no stop lights is better than neighborhoods small roads.
I know the nav isn't great, but it works most of the time. Do you have it set for "faster routes" and "multiple routes"? If you have multiple enabled, it will let you pick the best route to take. If fast and multiple are both enabled, it should sort a route list based on ETA's. Also, there is a menu to set speed limits on small and large roads as well as the interstate. If set correctly, it should be more accurate. -
I agree with the navigation. When I hit the go to school button, my D1 wants to go down a major street with stop lights every block instead of driving a extra few miles and getting on the interstate. it does however get the correct route if I hit the next button and go to route #2.
However, Car Navigation in general is a very new concept, we are the "early adopters" and have to adjust our criticism accordingly. New concepts are never perfect.
The speedometer error, I believe was caused by poor installation. They could have a bad connection on the wire, there could be noise or interference somehow leaking into the wire, but from my experience with places like Best Buy, they just cut the wire, wrap the 2, or 3 together, and tape it. This causes a bad connection and could very well lead to your inaccurate speedometer. -
That looks great! Video and Nav at the same time!
Great Idea! -
One of the buttons, Connection status or learning status, something like that, will show "speed pulse", if that says 0, it's not hooked up.
-
The VSS Wire, if thats not hooked up, the GPS.
-
The speed pulse wire allows navigation (dead reckoning) to take place when GPS Signal drops out. (ex: mountains, tunnels, etc.)
I would install it if the bypass isn't bothered by it. -
Ahh!!! NOT ANOTHER AVIC!!!
Made a mini topic here:

I do not have a Z1, and can't test this, but you either:
1. Flash the headlights 3 times while the Z1 turns on.
2. Get a TR7 and program it to send 3 pulses over 2 seconds upon power up. -
will the pac tr7 work with z1? and also the time window for flashing your lights is about 2 seconds
It should work. Just program the TR7 to send 3 pulses over 2 seconds. -
just use a pac tr7 and program it for 3 positive pulses upon turn on, easy as that.
Ah! Your right! That's a great idea, just saved me a lot of time! Who would think it would be so simple? hehe. -
Thats Awesome!!!
Tomorrow I'll start working on designing a relay that will do it automatically.
About how long is the time window in which you can flash the lights?
Most relays need a half a second to switch over. -
Anyone seen or tried this?
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/for ... 2&get=last
"To bypass the pioneer avic-z1 toggle 12 volts on the dimmer wire 3 times at the pioneer start up screen before the music comes on! If installed properly turn the lights on and off 3 times or use a toggle switch."
If that works, it would be VERY EASY to build a relay to do that automatically upon getting power. -
They don't display video through the ipod adaptor. You need the iPod Video Cable to connect to the Aux in.
-
I have it, and it works great (most of the time), there was one time when it saved me from a 2 hour delay.
But then again it also told me to go right down a street that was closed during halloween.
Overall, its positives outweight its negatives. -
Woah! Thats awesome. Thanks Jack!
