Jason,
Appreciate all the help. I am getting a D1. I have an '04 V6 Mustang with factory cruise control. Do you know where the VSS wire is? Is it necessary?
Thanx
James
The VSS Wire is a pain in the ass. You have to remove the passenger side running board, and then remove the kickpanel. Once you have that all apart, its a orange/white wire in a 100+ wiring harness. It's not required, but according to the manual it improves accuracy a considerable ammount and allows navigation when GPS Signal drops out. I wish I took pics, sorry.

VERY NICE!
Just curious, what are you using for the video input?
Did you do the bypass?

Hey Josh,
It was very easy to install. Except of course the VSS Wire.
I didn't have to modify anything.
The D1 slid perfectly into place. I'm not sure how it will be in a 97 Cobra, but if it's like mine, it will be a piece of cake.

I'm curious to see what people think.

Ahh.... I see now.

Front Row is a program made by Apple that acts as a media center on top of OSX.
http://www.apple.com/imac/frontrow.html
It is only suposted to work/come with the iMac, but people have allready found out how to get it to work on the Mac Mini. I think it would be very cool in a car.
-
Lol, go figure Pioneer to send the wrong version...
In the correct version for the D1 (D1 1.2) did you notice any differences from 1.0?
Also, did the disc for the N2 work in the D1?
-
Yes, the N2 is fully compatible with XM and Sirius.
But, I would get XM with NavTraffic if its in your area.
-
I made this mockup after Apple Released "Front Row". I think it looks really cool. The Mac Mini or any car computer could be pluggged into the AVIC's Video Input.
-
Simply enter your Vehicle Year/Make/Model here, and it will tell you where the VSS Wire is.

I don't have access to a N2, but thats a good idea.
To Upload a jpeg to the N2 you have to do the following:
1.Burn a CD-R (-RW) with the JPEG image(s) you desire to upload 2.Insert the CD-R (-RW) to the disc-loading slot. 3.Touch “Settings†in the Main menu, and then touch “Background Picture Settingâ€.The picture selected for each screen is indicated on the right side of “AV Background†and “Navigation Background†items. 4.Touch “Navigation Background†or “AV Backgroundâ€. 5.Touch “Import from Discâ€.The list of the pictures stored on the CD-R (-RW) is displayed. 6.Touch a picture you want for the background. 7.Select how to display the picture. "Centerâ€: Selected picture is displayed at the center of the screen. “Repeatâ€: Selected picture is patterned, and displayed as covering the whole screen. 8.Touch “Doneâ€
I have heard that the DVD's have no copy protection and can be backed up. I will try it when I get a chance though.
When you load a jpeg onto the N2, it loads it into the onboard memory, not the DVD. There is no way of getting a jpeg image from the N2 onto the D1.

Thanks!
I'm trying to set up a user photo gallery for this site, as well as a "How To" section so other people can not only show off their installs, but guide others with instructions.

Ok, I have found a ton more XM Logo's.
Check this out:
RAW PIM FILE: http://jasonhilton.us/d1/backgrounds/LPS020.PIM
PIM FILE IN NOTEPAD: http://jasonhilton.us/d1/backgrounds/20on20.jpg
DISPLAYED ON D1: http://jasonhilton.us/d1/DSC02279.JPG
These PIM Files are basically ASCI Art from the 90's.

This was taken off the Navigation DVD. This is the logo for XM Channel 22 "MIX".
-
Still Working on it, but I believe I have figured out how to load your own images and "mod" the existing ones. Want to give it a try? Stick one of your NAV DVD's in your computer, the contents are completly viewable in Windows, Linux, and Mac.
I will keep you posted!

Hi Everyone,
I created this site in hopes that Pioneer AVIC-D1, N2, and N1 owners will use this to exchange information, tips and tricks and help others.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help this site.
Thank You,
Jason Hilton

Allways getting a "XM UPDATING PLEASE WAIT" Box?
This error is caused when the data cable is connected to the D1 and you have not subscribed to XM NavTraffic. Software Version 1.2 fixes this problem, and is avaiable from pioneer after registering your unit.
connecting gex-p10xmt to my avic-d1, help!

1. Data Out and IP Bus Out go to the D1.
2. Do NOT Connect the Red Cable.
