  1. No, they don't work worth a crap.  You just don't know it because you didn't research it as well as you thought you did.  You live in a community of barely 100,000 people.  Go to a place with a few million and lots of feeder freeways and come back and tell us just how well they work.  If you want to be able to see 2 miles in front of you (that's right...I said TWO!) you can't do it.  Expanding the setting out as far as they will go may not give you a mile.  So you pinch the map out and it fills the screen with crap and your location is no longer centered on the map...it will scroll right off it.

The old Z series maps are a hundred times better.  Too bad the unit itself isn't near as good or I would re-install mine so fast it would make your head spin.

I live in NYC, it's a little bit bigger than Phoenix. Have you heard of it?    I don't get the same issues you do. I have an 8100, but the base maps should be the same.

  2. Nope, it has to do with how Google has it sending the display.  This is from what I've read on other sites.

It's washed out on the 8100 too.  What I did is turn on the Traffic and that at least added the green and red lines so it's a little easyer to see.

The 8100 is AWESOME, I highly recommend it.  A bit of a learning curve for the menus, and I still havn't figured out how to get the 8100 and my Nexus 6 to talk to one another about the other things other than Android Auto.  Even though I bought the special cables for that.

I had the Nexus 6, now the Nexus 6P used with my 8100.  What other things are you talking about?

  3. I have an 8100 and a Nexus 6P phone.  I plug the phone into USB solely for Android Auto (and google maps).

I have a Google Chromecast plugged into the HDMI.  I purchased a cheap Verizon prepaid android for $20 (with NO service) to use as the remote for the Chromecast, and I use the Nexus 6P WiFi hotspot to tether to the Chromecast for data.

  4. got it , it indeed needs to be a high speed data transfer cable. works great

For future reference for anyone stumbling across this, any data cable will work fine.  You can't use a cable that is charge-only.

On a side-rant, I don't know why anyone makes a charge-only cord anymore. Especially with the proliferation of QuickCharge 2.0, you need to have a regular data/charge USB cable for QC2.0 to work.

  5. Put your antenna on top of the dash, not inside of it.  I understand it is only plastic above the antenna, but it is just another material dampening the sat signals.  I have my antenna on top of the dash in the corner by the passenger A pillar with a clear view of the sky, and since installation it has not lost me. Even recalculating when I deviate from its route is within seconds.

  6. Has anyone figured out a way to use "OK Google" without tapping the screen?   I tried using a Satechi BT Home button ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RM75NOW/)   with a Bluetooth remapping app on my phone. It works with my phone not connected, but once I connect my phone to my headunit, the phone doesn't respond to the BT button.

I don't have steering wheel controls, and I am just trying to make it easier to use voice command without taking my eyes off the road to look for and tap the onscreen Mic button.

    Thanks!   :-D

  7. He is man who says everywhere that he has working hacked worldwide navigation, but does not give this info to anyone. He also said that we will be a long time to deal with this.

http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/81468-the-avic-development-mod/?p=334441 or this link in the case he edit his message: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/81468-the-avic-development-mod/?p=334442

We just hacked all this after few days. But this is very hard way to do this. So now we are looking for a way to simplify installation and make it accessible to all for free.

ah ok, I understand.  Thank you for explaining :)

  8. No, thats not the first time that message appeared.  Anytime you plug a phone into the headunit for the first time, it pops up on the screen asking "Do not display this notice again" with a check box and an accept button.

The reason the screen looks screwy like that is because the custom ROM you are using is not using the native DPI for display.  Granted, your screen is not mirrored, but this exact incident has come up before and solved to be the custom DPI on ROMs.

FYI, stock DPI for a Nexus 6 is 560.

  9. It is possible to cheat naviextras toolbox and upload your own files without using testmode. But you can not use any uploaded maps using testmode or using naviextras toolbox without proper licenses for your device model/region or for you device's id. update: Also, synctool folder contents is signed with md5-checksums of files, so it is impossible just to rewrite or add your own contents. Both naviextras toolbox and headunit's synctool will refuse this. But there is a way around this problem, you also need to be familiar with many things like md5-checksum calculation, editing files in right encoding and so on. It's hard to implement.

It is possible to hack this system and upload fresh maps for any region, but this is very complex task and it's hard to do this. You need at least two head units of different regions to do this. Also, at this moment you also should disable WARP (like hibernate function in windows), that causes significant increase of head unit start time.

Just for example: EU version of F960BT with maps of Russian Federation (not included in default maps set):

Also it is possible to install any other navigation software (including "right" versions of iGo software), but this is also very complex task at this moment. You need to be familiar with shell scripts, android internals and so on. Also, it is very easy to do something wrong and brick your device.

Who is lucca, and why is the filename of the image degrading lucca?
