  1. I experienced this one.  My phone is a Nexus 6, and it was not plugged in or charging at the time.  It only happened while using Pandora via BT. The sound was a little lower, and there was a high pitched whine when i turned up the volume.  It did not happen on HD radio (AM or FM).  It did not change pitch when accelerating.   Has not happened since.  Now it sounds louder and no whine.  Strange.

  2. Get rid of that fisher-price toy called the iphone.  CarPlay is so limited on a NEX.  Even on the 8100, no pinch-to-zoom.      Get a Nexus 6 phone, and a NEX8100 head unit, you will not be disappointed.  Google Maps is excellent, and Waze provides traffic to Google Maps since Waze is a Google-owned company now.

  3. I purchased the 8100NEX.  I wanted the capacitive screen with pinch to zoom and all that.

Glare all depends on where your HU goes in the dash and the angle of your HU.  I have to say, I just had the 8100 installed last weekend.  In the past week of strong sun and all, i have had nearly zero glare.  I have an 08 Expedition, so the head unit does sit higher up on the dash and is angled upwards. I was extremely nervous about the glare, but i have had zero issues.

What hacked app are you talking about?  The bypass to have all GPS and video functions work while in motion? All x100 models are the same I thought?  Just ground the p-brake wire, and tap and hold on the lower left part of the screen for 12 seconds.  (Unless there is something else you meant?)  I only want my unit bypassed to use the GPS as needed.  Why would I attempt to pull over to a shoulder on a highway in NYC traffic to use my GPS, then attempt to merge back in? Thats more unsafe.

  4. I have a nexus 6 and it works perfectly with the 8100 and android auto. make sure you update the firmware, use USB port 2. All you need is the extension that came with the HU and a USB micro. as well as the Auto app as stated

Thanks so much!  I won't need the USB extension cord.  I plan removing one of the two cigarette lighter ports I have in my truck and plan on doing this (see pic below, USB out in lower right of photo), i just sourced the GM parts on eBay (it's just a simple USB passthrough, no funky harnesses or wiring) to give it a more OEM look

I've been reading up, i see there's not much apps, but if i can use G-Maps, Pandora, and read my texts, I am extremely happy lol.

  5. A usb and a working version of android auto. Bottom line is that you are stuck waiting like the rest of us. Best excuse I've heard is pioneer started selling units before the app was fully vetted

Thanks for the heads up  :)   i heard the app works fine with the Nexus 6 phone, which i have

  6. I am so confused. What do I need to make this work? Just a microUSB cable (and extension cable if needed)?  I have a Nexus 6 phone, so I definitely have Android 5 Lollipop firmware.  To be clear, I don't want to mirror my phone screen via MHL or HDMI, I just want to use AndroidAuto to read my texts, use Google Now, Google Maps, my Gmail contacts, etc.

    Thanks :)

  7. Good to see my old people back :-)  I did get a little tired of the redundency, and when cntrylvr79 and Matt left, i kind of gave up.  I still do own an avic that cntrylvr installed for me like 4 years ago, but I haven't tinkered with it or anything.

I see the spam is worse now on here than it was in the past. I would've helped clean it up today, but I see that JasonH demoted me from Mod, I am guessing LOL

Well, I will be popping in and out in here. I want to keep up on newer models as I hope to upgrade one day soon.

Hopefully we all will keep in touch!
