  1. The hardware on the N1 will not support the new IPOD interfaces. It is a hardware issue, not a software upgrade on the map discs. I had an N1 as well and sent it in to this mod shop on ebay to upgrade the hardware to an N3 with upgraded XM and IPOD interface. Its worked great for 2 years now with no issues. The IPOD interface has total ipod control, but is not as user friendly as the N4 and above. Here is the site I purchased the mod from.

  2. Connect and Direct Your iPod®*

How much music and video can you bring to your AVIC-N5? That depends on how deep your iPod® library is. In addition to the built-in arsenal of multimedia playback options, Pioneer iPod-ready navigation systems like the AVIC-N5 make integrating your iPod® simple with the optional CD-I200 iPod® Direct Control cable. And control of your iPod® music and video library is quick and seamless via touch screen control of the intuitive graphic menu. Once you try the AVIC-N5’s iPod® playback, you’ll be using it to play all of the songs, podcasts, and videos you can get your hands on.

So to answer your question, you need the CD-1200 cable

  3. Ive had the same problem with disks that were not burned correctly, so Im assuming a scratched up disk would cause the same issues. I had a very scratched up disk once and it would take a while to load certain screens and take me back to the home screen if I tried to go to a screen it didnt like

  4. Anyone know of a place where I could do a trade-in type deal to trade in my Modded N3 for a newer N5? I see N5 around like like 750 new, so I was wondering if I could fetch like $450 tradein for an N3 to get this new one.

  5. Anyone know when the next round of upgrade disks will come around? Last year was only map updates so I'm hoping this year they throw in some firmware updates too.

  6. Thanks WastedTime2525

That was EXACTLY what was wrong. Posting follow up here in case future searches will solve your problem also.

Symptoms: Map moved like it was tracking, but not in correct actual location. Checking hardware settings>connection reveals "GPS antenna faulty, check with service".

I was lucky enough to have a car stereo store nearby that happened to have Pioneer antenna in the spare parts bin and after plugging it in and the displayed worked as it should, paid for the antenna and finished the install.

glad i could help. Ive gotten so much help on these forums its nice to return the favor back to someone.

  7. if your arrow keeps moving and does not turn or if it stops altogether you most likely have a dead gps antenna. I have burned out 2 antennas thus far on my avic unit in the last 6 years.

You can also try repositioning the antenna, removing it altogether and making sure its not getin crushed by something in the car, but most likely its a busted antenna

  8. From what I have heard, Pioneer has already designated a model # for their mobile HDTV tuner, but not a release date. I would assume they have heard about the fact standard tv broadcasts will end on Feb. 17th, and have a solution on the horizon.

  9. Hi All...

I just had the screen flex-cable fix done. I have lost my WEST disc. It's the orange (yellowish/orange) one. I only need the WEST one. I would be willing to pay to get one, or I could burn one if someone could possible rip & upload somewhere (rapidshare.com) perhaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!!!

    Steve

why dont u just download the 80 disks?

  10. I went to rich on ebay 2 times. Once for the avicn1 conversion to n3 which works perfectly and completely unlocked with cndv 80mt maps. Then my gps module failed and i sent it back and he replaced it for free under warranty and fixed some other problems he found in a diagnostic.

He's very good, they do great work there. Very well worth it. They also warranty all their work too.

  11. yea, thats the only thing keeping me from trading in my n3 for the new f90 is the screen size.

I cant stand the crappy Ipod controls on the n3. You cant even go up a folder level after you pick a song. You gotta start all over with top menu again. I just wanna say the song name and go to it. I still might invest in it, Ill hold out to see the new units this spring and then decide whether i want to upgrade.

  12. all personal preference. If you want to use voice commands and have higher functionality for ur avic then go with F90. If you prefer the bigger screen go with n5. I personally, would love to see a hybrid in the future, a bigger screen with all the IPOD voice controls as the F90 screen is just too small for me, since I have dvd and tv in the front seat. Ill wait til that added functionality comes out someday (maybe on an n6)

Not sure about onstar, but as far as steering wheel controls you will need the remote to control the avic unless u have a shop wire the steering wheel stuff to the avic.

  13. there is a setting to set the daytime/nightime mode within the unit. Double check the settings to make sure it didnt get reset somehow from the upgrade. Also, if you are using a burned copy try a re-burn at a slower speed or download the files again and try to install.

  14. Is anyone else having issues doing a POI 'Search by Vicinity' off this West disc, or is it just me? Please give it a shot next time you get in the car if you would.

The filesize I've got matches the one on the FTP, and it was burned on low speed on Verbatim media.

if your having trouble with POI search or address search most likely your unit is having trouble reading the disc all the time so either your disc has a bad burn or you might have a problem like i did my dvd pickup lense was extremely dirty i picked up a normal dvd lens cleaner from walmart after it was cleaned it worked great and dont have this problem anymore

I had same exact problem related to a bad burn. Try burning at a slower speed. If that doesn't work replace the laser lens, it cost me 75$ to replace mine
