  1. Hi Guys,

Been a long time since I've been on here. I have a Z1 with a new hard drive with the Z3 image on it. I have a pioneer Ipod adapter (can't remember the model and can't find my box) connected to it. With this adapter (looks like a box) I can control my Ipod through my head unit. However, searching through songs takes forever and is a total pain in the ass. I know the equipment is outdated, but I was wondering if there is a better adapter module out there where scrolling for music is much quicker? My brother just got the new Dodge Ram and he scrolls through his Ipod so fast.

Believe the adapter is this one: http://www.ebay.com/...=item35bb5cf2d4

Also, I haven't updated anything in a long time. Here is the info from my screen:

    Service Info:

    Version 3.0000

    CDDB 08-01-0010

    Component Info:

    Platform Version 3.000100

    GPS 1.200000

    HDD App 3.100200

Is there anything out there to update to?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  2. Hi,

I own an Avic-Z1 that was updated to a Z3 through the Z3 image a while back. All of a sudden out of the blue, whenever I go to the next track on my Ipod (controlled by the steering wheel controls which control my Avic-Z3) the song's title that was originally playing remains on my Avic screen while the new song plays. If I hit next track again, the new song plays, but the first song title still remains on the screen. The screen will not show the title and info of the new song playing. For example. I start my car and song "A" starts to play. Song "A's" title and info show up on the Avic screen. If I hit the track + button, song "B" plays but song "A's" info remains on the screen. If I hit track + again, song "C" plays and song "A's" info is still on the screen. If I then shut the car off and start it up again, song "C's" info is now on the screen and song "C" is playing. Hitting track + again plays song "D", but leaves song "C's" info on the screen.

I have reset my Ipod and this worked for say 2-3 songs, but then it goes back to the above problem. Disconnecting the Ipod and reconnecting to the cable connected to my Ipod controller also allows the songs to play correctly for say 2-3 songs, but then goes back to the problem. I also have this problem using track -. Any suggestions? Can it be the unit, the Ipod controller or the Ipod? I haven't tested with a different Ipod yet, but I intend to do so soon.

  3. I had my Z1 installed and asked for the 2-wire bypass to be performed. Since, I have upgraded to a Z2 and then a Z3 using the images on this forum. I can't remember, but I don't think I actually ever tested the bypass. Just this past weekend I went on a long trip and decided to make a call while driving. The option was greyed out. I couldn't dial. The option to dial a favorite was accessible however. I then tried to set the Navi to test how it worked where I was and again I couldn't program a destination while driving. This made me think the bypass was never done. So when I got home I put a DVD in the Z3 and started to drive around. I got the popup saying watching a DVD while driving is strictly prohibited and the picture went off. Now I knew something was up. My question is this: I remember earlier, before the Z2 and Z3 image, certain "bypassed" files had to be downloaded and installed to allow the 2-wire bypass to work. Are these files included in the Z3 image? If yes then I'm sure the bypass wasn't done correctly. If they are not included, where do I get them from?

  4. Thanks, one more question. Can the PAC-SWI-PS be programmed to actually change the A/V source? Instead of having to press IPod or Library on the screen, can I just press a programmed button on my steering wheel? Where can I find the info on how to do the button assignments? Is it in the PAC-SWI-PS booklet?

  5. I've had this set up for a while now with no problems, but recently noticed something that bothers me. When I listen to the radio (AM or FM), something I rarely do and press track up, my preset stations do not change. Instead, the radio station just moves to the next station. For example, preset 1 is 95.5 and preset 2 is 100.3. If I'm listening to preset 1 (95.5) and press track up, the Z3 does not switch to preset 2 (100.3), instead it goes to 95.7. If I hit it again it goes to 95.9 and so forth. Is my PAC-SWI-PS configured wrong? Also, my track up and track down buttons work fine, but my volume +/- button seems to stick (still talking about my steering wheel buttons configured for my PAC-SWI). Sometimes when I press vol +/- the volume increases/decreases immediately and I can see the volume increase on the Z3 screen. Other times absolutely nothing happens when I press the button and I do not see the volume increasing or decreasing on the screen. What do you guys think may cause this?

  6. Thanks for everyone's help with my install and Z1 to Z2 upgrade. This forum rocks. Everything is up and running perfectly.

Oh yeah........GIANTS 17 PATRIOTS 14, Unbelieveable. Looks like I'll have to use my navigation unit to navigate around the mass of people going nuts on the streets here in Flushing Queens NY. Great Game!

  7. Finished the conversion of my Z1 to a Z2 with a new Toshiba 80 GB drive. Did the new gracenote update. I downloaded the new Z2 firmware, but was wondering if this is the firmware I should be using, since in reality it is a Z1. I've seen other posts asking the same question. Can anyone give an answer that has done the updat?

  8. I have one of those license plate rear cameras, BOYO I think. Can't remember as I threw out the box. My installer did not hook it up so that the camera will show when I go into rear view on the mao mode. When I asked him about that, he said that camera cannot do that because it cannot be on all the time or else it will burn out. Is this ture?

  9. I haven't tried to do the 3D reset yet. I will in a few minutes.

Well, first try the reset. It seems that orientation problems are somewhat common on new installations and simply reseting the learning status takes care of it.

Does this sound like a VSS not connected problem?

The VSS is not necessary; it helps with accuracy when signal is lost, but in my experience it has made no difference. I've had My Z2 hooked up WITHOUT the VSS for a couple months (cause I'm lazy) and it's been working flawlessly. Obviously it can't sense slope without it, but besides novelty / 3D hybrid, it's unnecessary. So, no. I doubt it's because of VSS.

I did the 3D Reset and it worked. Everything is working fine now. Arrow is on the road in the correct direction and the driver;s view show me on the road. Also, there is no lag

    Thanks for all your help!

Oh yeah - one more thing. Where's your antenna? If it's not on a metal surface, you WILL have accuracy issues. Either put it on the car's exterior or use the metal plate that came with it.

  10. I tried toggling the compass back and forth to see which was better. When I press it once the triangle that is supposed to be my car stays pointed up, but moves along correctly on the roads as I drive. This mode seems to work best for me. However, if I switch to drivers view, I do not see roads, all I see is grass or concrete. I guess this is because the arrow is pointing off the road and not actually onto it. If you can't follow me basically the arrow always stays pointed up but moves to the right as I drive (or should I say the map moves to the left as the arrow stays fixed) and the GPS is correct. If I switch to driver's mode like I said I don't see roads since the arrow is always pointing up, and not toward the road I'm on. Would toggling the compass cause it to point to the raod? I haven't tried to do the 3D reset yet. I will in a few minutes. Also, when driving, although the GPS is mostly accurate I notice the street name in the bottom left of the screen stays the same for while as a drive. I could have past that street a while back and it still says the same name. Then all of a sudden it switches to a street that I'm actually closer to. Is it supposed to be instantaneous or lag like this? Does this sound like a VSS not connected problem? I did not do the install personaly and I did tell my installer to do it, but who knows?

Thanks for all the help you guys have given me so far

  11. Touch the little compass logo on the screen and see if it reorients itself.

The red line is a straight line from where you are, to where you are going, without roads

If you're talking about the compass on the screen that shows the time, MPH and Compass, when I press that I get a menu allowing me to change the compass icon to something else. If you're talking about a different compass please elaborate.

  12. Did what you suggested and it's still 90 degress of. I haven't checked the antenna or install connections yet. Just to make sure I'm reading the compass correctly. It shows my car pointing east when in fact the car is pointing north. So east is on top and north is to the left with the picture of the car pointing up or east. Then there is a red line going from the side of my car to the left connecting to the N for north. What is that red line? And from what I just described, am I correct in saying it's off 90 degrees?

  13. Anyone know where to get or the part # for the mic clip for the Avic-Z1 and where to get or the part # for a trim ring for the Avic-Z1? Looking at Pioneers web page for parts they list items but show no pictures so I'm not sure what is what.

  14. Finally after I don't know how long I got my Avic-Z1 installed. Everything seems great except for the navigation. The navigation is off by 90 degrees. For example, if I'm facing east, the navigation shows the car moving north. Also, when going to the screen that shows the time, MPH and the compass, the compass shows the car again facing north when in fact I'm facing east. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

  15. I'm finally getting ready to do my Z1 to Z2 upgrade by loading the Z2 image onto a new hard drive. My question is, does the new Z2 image contain any of the following updates: Bluetooth(to stop the echo), Gracenote or the Z2 firmware? If not, is it recommended to do these updates after the Z1 to Z2 upgrade is finished?

    Chris

  16. My experience with Z1 to Z2 Upgrade;

    1) My Z1 was professionally installed. I took it in to get the latest bypass done, right after I installed the latest bypass upgrade software. This install is so well done, you can't even get to the rear of the unit to access any wires. They did the 2-wire for free (actually a couple of pizza's). I wanted to verify that this functioned before moving on to the Z1-Z2 upgrade.

    2) .RAR download was fine using XP Pro. I did interrupt my downloads several times with no problems when restarting the downloads – no corruptions.

    3) I downloaded all the software. but for some reason I had to "purchase" Acronis Disk Director, which I find a great piece of software and worth it. I could not get it to work as i needed on the trial version.

    4) I chose the upgrade route on the Hard drive and ordered from NewEgg the Toshiba MK6034GAX - 60GB, which means I did not unlock my old drive.

    5) I purchased the IDE hard drive adapter from Fry's Chain for $6.99.

    6) I did everything as described. All went well with the following exception.

    > I could not get the screws loose on my Z1HD Caddy. truly funny... I do major auto repair, and have rarely encountered this kind of difficulty. I used my dremel to cut them out. and replace them with new screws. The down side is that the cut-off screws remain in the original HD. hope I never need to reinstall that one.

    > I could not tell when I had defeated the password locking on the new HD. This has been mentioned on this thread. I tested it on another computer to verify.

    7) I installed new HD. and everything was fine. BUT here is were I veer away from some of the guys here,

    8) I was also surprised to see many of my settings intact - my av settings, xm stations in memory, map settings, even my Bluetooth connection, etc... I did not reset anything because all appeared to work. This reset is recommended by others here.

    9) to this day (2500 miles after upgrade) it is flawless. I must add that my system has been flawless from day one. My Avic is one of the very early models - I live for tech, so i got it early 2006.

    10) I used Photo shop to create a simple splash screen using a Volvo logo, Volvo photo and text " Volvo Navigation Loading.....". I like the factory look and did not want a splash that said " look at my aftermarket system". It is important to look "factory" IMO

    11) I removed the pioneer disclaimer files (renamed the files .old but left them in place). So now only my Splash screen shows up.

    12) I have no restart issues, I have never performed a "hard reset" or any other reset.

    13) The new Hard drive is noticeably quicker. Of note - the "beep" after the Z2 asks for verbal input is instantaneous - I used to have to wait one to two seconds to get the beep..... niceeee !!!

    14) "DOWNSIDE"..... I need to reinstall all of my music and phone book entries because I did not unlock my original hard drive and retrieve it.

finally, 15) can someone do a step by step on resizing the hard drive partitions...... this was not clear to me. and I ended up with several extra partitions and had to do everything over to get back to square one. People have tendencies to say " just do A and end up with Z" when they have a clear understanding (I too am guilty), but others may not see it as clearly.

ALSO, please watch for a new thread (if one doesnt exist) in the general section regarding the AVIC obvious omissions and oversights - you know - the things this system should or shouldn’t do.... that are painfully obvious to us users. I am going to pull some of these together and post them. Pioneer are U listening.

2 questions if you don't mind. Did you rename the files to .old after you put the image on the new hard drive or did you change it within the image file itself?

Second question- How did you create your own splash screen? I remember seeing a thread or some directions on how to do it here, but I can't find it.

  17. I tried that... it didn't work since when doing the update you have to enter a special code that can be only used once from their website...

if someone wants I can send you a new 60gb (37gb free for music) harddrive which will update your z1 to z2, update the bluetooth and do wire by pass.. for $150.

    let me know if interested...

    Question,

You say it will update the bluetooth. Is there a special file to do this or is it included in the image found here? http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9446

I'm looking to do the upgrade and definitely want to update the bluetooth.

  18. there is a metra harness for this issue, 70-5520av, but it doesnt work for all ford systems. i have done the aviator with the move the radio trick though.

Have you heard of anyone having success with the 70-5520av? I actually called Metra and they said the 70-5520av only works about 30% of the time and he doubts it will work in the Aviator. I guess I'll have to do the radio move. Can you tell me where you mounted the old radio?
