Did you hookup the reverse wire from the D3 to your vehicles backup (reverse) wire?

Turned out the person at Crutchfield was correct. You can use the dimmer wire from the metra xsvi-6502 to hook into the illum wire on the AVIC-D3. The unit works perfectly and is not affected by the dimmer. Saved me from having to hunt down a wire somewhere else.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I would think a switched line to the headlights would work and be the easiest to locate. Any input would be much apreciated.

I'm going to install a D3 within the next couple of days. I have a 2007 Jeep Commander. Crutchfield set me up with a Metra xsvi-6502 harness for the install. I noticed last night that my factory harness doesn't have a wire mating up with the illumination wire on the Metra harness. I called Crutchfield and the tech told me to use the dimmer wire from the Metra harness to splice into the D3 illumination wire. Does this make sense and will the illumination feature work properly?
