  1. The SLA boost really doesn't do THAT much, you'd have to have the radio up to near speaker blowing volume for that to be a concern.
  2. That's just plain stupid He asked for a solution. You offered nothing. But thanks for chiming in.
  3. You can turn the SLA all the way up on each input (doesn't apply to FM Radio) That will increase the volume output for any given volume setting, making the volume number to reach ear blowing much lower, and thus faster to get to.
  4. I don't have any desire to tear into your truck myself, but for the price of lunch, I'd be willing to supervise/advise as you do it. I'm in south Austin.
  5. Mine sounds like crap too. I thought maybe I just had a bad tuner, but after replacing it with a brand new unit, the sound is the same. It sounds to me like at some point in the compression process, the gain level is too high, which leads to clipping/breaking, but then by the time it's broadcast (or maybe just the data line from the tuner to head) the gain is dropped far below normal level. You can equalize the volume output with the SLA setting, but it definitely doesn't increase the quality. Some stations are better than others. Unfortunately my favorite (74 I think it is) happens to b
  6. Thanks for the link and info. Wow, that thing is just ugly as hell! My reasons for upgrading would be just so that I don't have to keep an ipod in the car, and to fix the contacts issue. Doesn't look like the Z2 is an option for either.
  7. I currently have a D3, and I'm looking at a Z2. The hard drive would cure one of my biggest gripes with the D3 (chosing between nav disc or CD), but I'm wondering about the Ipod, XM, and bluetooth functions. Looks like the Z2 uses entirely different adapters, so I assume the screens and functions will be different. 1. Is the ipod display the same? Could someone post a pic? 2. Pic of the XM screen? 3. Any chance the GEXP10XMT XM Nav Traffic unit will work with the Z2? 4. I happen to have a cell phone that doesn't support bluetooth data push, is there any way to load contact names on the
  8. It does on mine. I get the all black screen with the white pioneer lettering, followed by the Pioneer logo, followed by the "splash" screen I chose through the nav menu.
  9. The all black screen with white "Pioneer Loading" at the top left, is a black image, with the words generated by the program. I believe this is the BGOPEN.PIM file, but every attempt to replace it resulted in unusable discs. The screen after that, which looks like the one I've posted, is the one you can change using the directions above. But give it a shot, maybe you'll have better luck than I did. (please post back if you do)
  10. There are actually 3 different startup screens. The first is a completely black image, the second is the black background with PIONEER - copyright 2007 Pioneer Corporation etc. etc. screen, THEN the "splash" screen is loaded. The 3rd "splash" screen can be changed through the nav menu, selecting either one of the defaults off the disc or loading a new one from CDR. But you can also change the PIONEER screen. You'll have to create a new Nav DVD (follow the thread on loading custom images on the D2 for instructions on creating the disc) with a different image file, and then resetting the
  11. Pulled everything apart, tried wiring the XM through the BT, then with just the XM connected alone. Tried running it without the data cable, swapped the main cables, still the same result every time. I think it must be a bad XM tuner.
  12. When you get the SWI, don't bother with the huge instruction sheet. Just look for the "custom installation" URL printed in bolt letters, and use their website. It will give you a step by step walkthrough for your particular car. Installed one of these yesterday, and the only complaint I have is that if you hold the vol+/- for more than a half second, the volume continues to move after you release the button. (think auto down on a powered drivers window) It's fine when you are turning the volume down, but a little painful if you just want to turn the volume up a couple notches and it goes
  13. I'm not sure what to make of it. I've used XM before, and the audio quality was good. However after hooking up the GEX-P10XMT to my D3, the stations all sound like crap. There is a static to it, but it's not a low antenna signal type static, more like a low signal static on the input to the D3. I've heard similar things when people split an audio output to multiple units, but that isn't the case here. I currently have it wired from Bluetooth module to XM, then XM to the D3. (plus the extra data line for NavTraffic) I'm wondering if I need to reverse the order, so that the XM runs to the B
  14. I've tried that. When you use "hide", the updated image shows. But as long as the ipod layout is up, it displays a different image. (looks like a spinning CD on the left side)
  15. I haven't found any way to change it to another background. (thats what I'm trying to do) This is the image I'm trying to change: http://www.pioneer.eu/images/eur/AVICD3iPod.jpg I found an earlier thread on the subject, but it died without any answers.
  16. If this has been discussed, forgive me. A search turned up nothing. I want to replace the Ipod image on the D3. The issue for me isn't the layout, it's that the background has what looks like defective screen lines through it. Yes, I'm sure it's just that image, everything else on the unit looks fine. Based on my quick view of one of the discs, it looks like the general background images are all there, stored in induvidual colors. But I don't see any of the default - changed by changing layout color images on the disc, and I assume the ipod image will be one of them. With everything
  17. Well crap. Ok trying another way, is the phonebook stored in the unit global, or per phone? For example, could I load the phonebook from a Razr, then access it from my SuperSlice? (the latter is the one that doesn't support BT transfer)
  18. My cell doesn't support bluetooth data communication of any form. (headset and handset profile only) Its easy enough to manually enter a phone number on the D3, then store it as a speed dial, but is there any way to enter a name for it? Or better yet, to load a contact list, say off of CD/DVD?
