  1. Jokes aside. I've had my car broken into several times and had my stereo stolen once. I know the feeling. I'd much rather have my screen with me lugging it around then go into my car and seeing an empty area where my radio used to be

  2. It's as quick to steal your car which is worth more than your stereo.

If there's some technical reason why Pioneer couldn't make the capacitive screen removable (perhaps being glass it's more susceptible to damage) the I'd much rather have that then a removable plastic screen.

Great screen notwithstanding i still wish you were able to detach the screen

  3. We have talked about this before. It's a several hundred dollar computer you can't take out of your car that can be taken away by a thief and a screwdriver. The detachable plate allows you to draw less attention when you're worried about having the unit somewhere less safe.

Has the car been in a place where I'd worry? No. Am I happy I have the added security? Absolutely.

DP3343 you're absolutely right. I myself would feel a lot more safe with a detachable face for the 8000....

  4. Just saw a video of the AVH-4000NEX and it's ability to detach the faceplate from its housing. It's an awesome security feature. My question is Pioneer why didn't you guys include this feature for the 8000? Can someone answer this for me? If this has already been posted please forgive me. I've been away from the site for a while because of work.

  5. Glass cleaner is mostly vinegar and ammonia. Remove all power, let it sit and it should evaporate. Its not doom and gloom like water, but you have to hope you didn't short a circuit while the power was on.

Thanks for the advice man. I'm gonna give it a couple days if all else fails try to return it for a new one...

  6. Depending on how wonky you are, a much better approach might be to work with a new Nexus 7. You'll have a far superior screen and a wider range of choices for navigation and audio playback

What about Sirius/XM? HD Radio? Maybe it's just me but I'm not a fan of putting Tablets into a vehicle. Much easier for a thief to grab and snatch....

  7. I agree, I can get vehicle info from the vehicle so this is a nice option to have but not a deal breaker for me with everything else the 8000 offer

Exactly. The 8000 does more than enough.... Very satisfied with the unit. In addition I've looked a several consumer responses from the Alpine units and they're mostly negative.... The features lacking on their Alpine units are readily accessible with the 8000... I'd rather have navi, great sound quality, iPod/iPhone video functionality over vehicle info any day of the week.....

  8. Got my 8000nex for $1000 thru amazon.com.... Went to my installer and he wanted to sell me one for $1400 installed. He was kinda upset when I showed up to his shop with one already in hand and told him how much it cost me. Moral to the story: always shop around....

  9. Thankfully you got the other guys insurance. It sounds like his insurance is either gonna sky rocket or they are gonna drop him entirely. Drenyce311 make sure you go over the car throughly when you get it back. The other guys insurance are gonna try to fix your whip at the cheapest rate possible. Not to your benefit.

  10. Drenyce311 I agree with everything you said. One function is not gonna make or break this radio. Here's another thing to consider.... The new 9 inch Alpine that everyone is raving and drooling over? There's a site that says when it comes out the MRSP will be about $2500?!?! No thank you. I'll pass and keep my 8000....

  11. But the system as a whole is great or am I being too much of an optimist? I read some reviews and because one feature of this radio either doesn't work or isn't operational they trash the entire unit. That to me isn't a fair assessment of the 8000. Someone show me a radio that does everything this one does and more and I'll invest.

  12. I've read a few complaints on this 8000nex unit and I must say ppl for the most part are overreacting. The Ui is excellent. The sound? Flawless.... The maestro connection? Possible with a later firmware update. Appradio? Needs to be improved but still a nice addition. I love this unit. I've seen other units out there and they can't hold a candle to the 8000nex. Be mindful that with every unit there will be drawbacks, flaws. Kinda senseless to nitpick at every one. This unit overall gives you the most bang for your buck. Just one members humble opinion.....post-115528-0-54121700-1398078408_thumb.jpg

  13. Just got my unit today in the mail. The vendor I purchased it from said it was in stock, after my purchase they said it would take another 1-2 weeks due to no stock so I asked for a refund. Well surprisingly I received an e-mail stating it was shipped. When I received the box something didn't feel right. The shipping box was dented and haphazardly taped. The pioneer box was just sitting in it, loose with no bubble wrap or styrofoam peanuts. That box had a dented corner too. When I removed the unit there was no protective plastic on the screen and a scratch across the volume buttons with a piece of plastic chipped.

I was wondering for those of you that have your units in hand, was there a piece of protective plastic on the screen for shipping purposes? Something that you would remove post-install?

I just have a very odd idea that they quickly grabbed a (used unit) and shipped it to me. If not used this unit was definitely opened up before I got to it.

    Thanks!

    -Mike

Yeah it sounds like you got a used unit. I ordered mine online as well but in the shipping box was bubble plastic and there was I believe styrofoam inside the Pioneer box. To ship any piece of electronic equipment without any shipping packaging is disrespectful, careless and cheap. I'd return that unit for your money back. You don't need to do business with them. Let your money speak for you.
