  1. That model number aligns with a JL Audio amp, not a JBL amp.

    Manual: http://mediacdn.jlaudio.com/media/mfg/9013/media_document/live_1/XD700_5v2_MAN.pdf?1398143029

NOTE: Verify the subs are wired for lowest impedance the amp will tolerate (2 ohms).

Page 2 diagram of manual says SUB Input Sensitivity on page 9, which says to tune per Appendix A  on page 16.

You can follow that algorithm if you want, but in my experience you get the same result doing the following.  Set your head unit level to zero, crossover to 80hZ, slope to match channels 1-4.  Set amp LP filter mode to OFF and adjust Input Sensitivity to suit.  If you still don't get what you want, then increase the head unit level.  Just be careful to not make it over sensitive (discernable distortion)... you'll let the smoke out of the amp, the subs, or both.

Good advice. The issue I was had when I first installed my system was that I had the HP and LP filters for the amps and head unit on. Rookie mistake. I found that having the head unit control HP and LP and turn the amp filters off worked the best for me,

  2. The cradle IS a lightning cable, it just snaps the Apple lightning cable in the cradle and uses it. There's no issues with the connection. If there was, CarPlay wouldn't even start.

I understand. But, introducing a cradle may cause the connection to be poor due to how the phone sits on it. In my experience, most issues with intermittent CarPlay comes from poor Lightning cable connection issues and/or dirt or lint the Lightning slot on the iPhone.

Look for the simple stuff first when problem solving issues. Eliminate the obvious before tackling the complex.

  3. I have the exact opposite experience. IOS9 is way worse. Most of the time when I try to play a song or podcast the now playing screen is blank just showing a play button. This happens with iOS8 as well, but in 8 I could take the phone out of the cradle, start the song or podcast, and then put it back in the cradle and it would play through CarPlay. That workaround doesn't work with 9, in fact most of the time I can't even get audio out of the phone directly either. Spotify is just as bad. Oddly enough iHeartRadio does work.

You are using a cradle?  Have you tried to just us a lightning cable alone.

  4. I am using 9.0 GM with the default settings and I can see the album art better than before. But I don't think the album art is every going to be bright, clear and vivid. There is too much varity of color and complexity for the text to appear great on all of the possible albums out there. The Beatles white album vs dark side of the moon. What text color do you use? If the art is very busy, would the text be legible? The reason the art is soft and blurry is so that the text will be readable. It has to be, to be safe for the driver.

  5. Just wanted to go ahead and post an update.  I thought it would be timely based on another thread I noticed with people reporting that Carplay was acting flaky with iOS 8.4.

This is what I have tried in order to resolve the problems I am seeing which consist primarily of things going on like the head unit randomly disconnecting from my phone (didn't happen before the iOS update).... or my personal favorite, Carplay starts up (now it never auto plays my music which is annoying) I hit play on the Carplay Music screen and it acts like it is playing but there is no audio.  Disconnect my phone, wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in and about 50% of the time if I hit play I will get audio.

    1. I deleted the carplay entry on my iPhone and re-connected it to the NEX4100 and then re-accepted the invitation to trust that radio so that Carplay could start up automatically even if the device is locked.

    2. I wiped my iPhone out and restored it from a backup.

    3. I wiped my iPhone out, set it up as a new phone and did nothing other than put a few of my playlists onto the phone.

None of this has fixed the issue.  Getting pretty frustrated at this point.  I understand others are not having issues but there appear to be enough of us that ARE having issues that something is going on.

Next step is going to be going to the shop and connecting my phone to a different head unit to see how it behaves.

The simple fact is that there are many factors that can affect a mobile device, like an iPhone. As someone who uses a iPhone Air to control a quadcopter, and also develops software, I can relate to your issues.

I have terrible cell coverage at my house and office. I also have a Verizon WiFi hotspot wired into my car, with my iPhone connecting to it automatically. When I leave my home, it connects to the hotspot, but the cell coverage sucks. This causes some issues with my CarPlay and 8000NEX connections upon startup from time to time.

Background refresh issues, automatic software updates using the cell connection and other tasks running concurrently can cause issues. There are so many things that can go wrong, is a minor miracle that it works at all.

I would start simple. Have you tried to replace the Lightning iPhone cord with a new one? Is the USB 1 wire on the back of the NEX properly seated? Check for lint into the Lightning slot on the iPhone. Believe it or not, this lint issue was causing my iPhone to disconnect from the NEX randomly. I have my phone in my pocket often, and there is lint in there.... Duh...

  6. When I got the new unit from them I told them to update it before they sent it. They said they left a note on the account and would have it updated.... Well I got it and it was not update. I ran the update from Microsd ( 5000nex ) and it went threw with out issue. The time when I updated and it bricked the unit i was trying to update over usb. How where you guys updating it when it bricked your units?

USB 1 for my bricked update.
  7. Had to send mine in earlier this year. It took 2.5 months before I got another unit. They ended up saying the part they needed to fix mine was on back order. They " said " They I would get an " Open Box " Item to replace mine. The one they sent me has worked fine so far. ( have had it for 4 months )

What did you send it in for?

  8. My 8000NEX was sent to Pioneer three weeks ago for repair, and it is still in "In Evaluation Process". Basically the new firmware bricked the radio and it will not load the new firmware or revert back through a reset.

I purchased a Alpine ILX-007, and it is coming in today. So at this point, I'm in no real hurry to get the 8000 back, but it burns me that it is taking so long. And it disappoints me that a $1,400 radio can be so susceptible to failure through a firmware update. I am in the tech industry and have worked on many types of hardware and computer controlled devices. I realize that there is always a risk in performeding updates on the firmware. But usually, you leave yourself a way to revert back to a base version that can be used as a floor to try To update from. There are a lot of things that can happen to interrupt a firmware update. Power failure, faulty USB drive, poorly written update code, bad sectors on the internal SD card etc.

Perhaps the complexity of the NEX radios is the real issue here. Pioneer has tried to throw in everything but the kitchen sink into these things, and those layers may be adding to the various issues we are all experiencing.

  9. My 8000NEX was received on the 3rd, went into "In Evaluation Process" on the 5th and has been "evaluating" ever since. Nine days and counting at Pioneer.

12 days and counting... Still "In Evaluaion Process".

When (and if) I get my 8000 back, I plan on unloading it on eBay and get an Alpine iLX-007. I just use CarPlay and the occasional Sirius channel right now, and I am thinking to keep it simple.

Accepting offers for my used 8000.....

  10. I'm not even going to deal with the update when I get back. Hopefully it comes back with 1.10. If not, oh well.....for those of you that send it off. It takes 2-3 business days before Pioneer updates their website. So my unit was received at 9:30 yesterday morning and it still states "waiting on product".

I sent mine in today. If it does not come back with 1.10, I'm not going to take any chances. I'll keep it on 1.08 until I can sell it.

  11. I ended up bringing my radio into a Pioneer Service Center. According to the tech there, there's a built in SD memory card that seems to have become write-protected, which prevents the update process, and causes the recovery to fail.

They ended up ordering the part which will take about 10-12 days (From US =().

I filled out a request to send it on in for repair. Now I'll have a hole in my dash for a few weeks.....

  12. I've had a problem with updating mine too.

I first downloaded the firmware yesterday (AVIC- 5000,6000,7000NEX_UC_FW-Update_v1.10), when to do the update, went from 0% to -1, then instantly failed. Now I can't get the radio out of that screen (every time I start the car it tries to update). I've tried resetting the radio with the small button at the front with no luck.

I thought it might have been a firmware issue, so I went to re-dl the firmware from the site, now it only gives the 1.08 software (AVIC-5000,6000,7000NEX_UC_FW-Update_v1.08), no matter which link I try (although the site still says its the 1.10 version.

Not sure what I can do now =(

Did you ever get your issue resolved? I have the same issue with my 8000. Update failed. Goes from 0% to -1% and failed. Downloaded the files a couple of times and tried a couple different USB drives.. No luck.

  13. My Music? Do you mean that when you choose to add a playlist from the For You tab, that it will then show up in my playlists, or do you mean that there is a "My Music" button that I am not noticing in CarPlay?

In the iPhone music app. You can add a song, album or playlist to your My Music and can see it on the iPhone, iTunes or CarPlay. It exists right along with any music you may have in your existing iTunes library.

  14. I guess it really depends on what you want out of a navigation system. For me, where I live, I don't need heavy traffic work around or toll road info. I just want to know how to get from point A to point B. And I would rather have voice controlled navigation though Siri than the crowd sourcing directions. I can see the use for that in more densely populated areas, but half of the country lives in the sparse land like I do.

It would be nice to have third party traffic plugins that would overlay on top of Apple maps so I could have those options when I needed them, and still have voice control.

  15. I use Apple maps in CarPlay along with Sirius. They work together very well. But, you can only play one thing at a time, of course. If you are listening to anything (Sirius, HD Radio, or music on the iPhone), Apple maps will lower the volume of the source while the voice instruction is playing, and raise it back to normal after.

  16. I'm a fan of whichever gives the user more choice, the best part of these services is frequent free updates. Apple needs to realize that Apple maps is mostly a dud, shell out and improve or or cut their losses and kill it. I agree for safety reasons there needs to be restrictions on which apps are allowed, but it should be more open.

I believe that Apple maps has improved a lot. Where I live, I have had no issues with it. The reason Apple had to start creating their own maps app was that Google was not updating Google maps on iOS. Once Apple maps came out, Google all of a sudden brought out a new improved maps app. You can still use google maps and Waze on iOS devices, so there is choice. But I prefer Apple maps with CarPlay to the standard NEX navigation. No comparison.

  17. Siri voice recognition included with Carplay is very good.  I can say "play the white album" and it will work.  How long would it take to get that album playing via the phone touchscreen or the NEX touchscreen?  Also I can use Siri to call people, and it will work and work well. Finally, there is the issue of directions.  I can simply say "directions to 25 main street, middletown NY" and more often than not it will get it right.  While I don't like the Carplay apple maps as much as the NEX maps, getting a destination into the NEX system takes A WHILE.  Especially if the destination is in a different state.  So, for me, the biggest advantage of Carplay over the NEX is the excellent voice recognition.

I agree with you on all of your points. Siri makes all of the differance. I am getting used to maps, and as time goes by, it will only get better. At least the maps will keep up to date, unlike the NEX maps. And you have to pay for those NEX map updates.
