  1. I am not sure of your setup, but my album artwork looks fine on CarPlay playing from my iPhone 6. I also use iTunes Match.

I just migrated to a new MacBook Pro Retina and my library metadata got hosed (I didn't use Migration Assistant). So my ratings, number of times each track was played, etc., got lost along the way, and I ended up with a bunch of duplicates.

The duplicates are resolved, and as of yesterday I re-enabled iTunes Match. So my library has to re-sync to the iTunes Match servers. I'm guessing it'll take a few days for that to complete. Then I'll need to re-sync my iPhone 6. Then I can test again and report back.

  2. For what it's worth, despite everything said here, the only way to get some of my ripped albums to show album art on my head unit was to get the album art from iTunes. Even if it meant making an entirely new account for a different region. I'm ripping in AIFF now and hopefully that stops this issue.

I subscribe to iTunes Match, and I've made it a point to delete/re-download all my music. Even stuff that I did not buy from the Apple iTunes store. $24 yearly fee to keep my music sanitized is worth it to me. The tunes all come down with artwork, but none of the artwork shows in CarPlay. I agree with previous poster's concern, having to embed artwork is silly. Hope the bug report I submitted to Apple gets a prompt response.

    Carplay Album Art Issue

  3. Yep -- the NEX units will not look in the folder for artwork files (which is stupid and wasteful); to display the artwork must be in EACH music file individually as a tag. Yes, this means if you have 20 songs in an album you must consume 20x the album art in disk space, but since music is rather large compared against these art files it's not as bad as it initially sounds.

My apologies I didn't realize this was happening. The latest iTunes versions make embedding artwork tougher, BeaTunes has some active threads on this. Sorry, I'll see myself out. :)

  4. Wow, I've been ignoring this thread, since I didn't think it effected me. Today, while stopped at a light, the sun was just right angle and I could see the very faint outline of John Fogerty while playing his wonderful I Wrote A Song For Everyone album. It was daytime and I have the brightness/dim set to max, so I held this month's issue of MacTech Magazine up to block reflections...and there he was. Oh just so faint, never in a thousand years would I have guessed that album art was being displayed (cough, cough).

I did the one thing that will get Apple's attention, since this is, after all, an iOS problem...I filed a bug report (18946516):

  5. Day and Night mode are based on sunup and sunset (Clock). The dimmer wire will dim the display depending on setting of dimmer adjustment with lights on and off.  It fades between the two settings. It isn't like older systems that would change the map to dark when lights are on.

Thanks @dspin! I went back to the shop. Since my factory base unit didn't offer night dim, the engineer simply re-routed one wire and now I have night dim. :)

  6. Make sure you're using an Apple approved Lightning cable that does data/charge (instead of just charge).

A bad cable can cause problems, either in getting CarPlay to kick in, or in keeping it connected.

Griffin makes the best quality Lightning cables, coiled and very thick. Perfect for tucking away in your console.

  7. Not sure where this should go, so move if you feel it's necessary.

Simply put, practically unusable for me on 6000NEX, iPhone 6 on IOS 8.1. I'm going to update to 1.08 as soon as I get a spare 20 minutes (my days are indeed that packed this month, working 8-11 plus an hour commute each way. Briefly, here's a recording of my situation almost every time, recorded on my drive home - I pulled over (again) and recorded me trying to play either a podcast or spotify for 12 mins before I got it working.

Admittedly I'm on the .06 update. If you see me doing something wrong or outrageous here call me on it so I know what to avoid (although "start everything on the phone" isn't the answer I am really seeking for my glorious hands-free unit...)

Apologize for shaky cam, this was an unplanned recording.

Does 1.08 help with any of this?

If the 1.08 update doesn't fix these problems, try replacing the Lightning cable, they can go bad.

CarPlay is just displaying what iOS sends it, so a bad cable can cause problems with stuff like CarPlay.

  8. Ugh...2,400 miles and Spotify didn't work with CarPlay.

Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX with 1.06 (then with 1.08 as it was released mid way through trip).

    Nope. Nada. Zilch.

I was left with nothing but 100GB of iTunes music to listen to.

  9. 1.08 also fixed the keyboard issue from 1.06! That was my biggest complaint, that the keyboard had become very unresponsive. I'm actually very grateful that Pioneer resolved this quickly.

Hmmm...you know, I actually didn't notice, since it's been very responsive. Never would have noticed. :D

  10. I'm in a road trip, just getting caught up. I applied the update but didn't notice anything new or changed.

2014 CR-V and iDataLink Maestro RR and Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX.

I was hoping it would fix the clock settings, where I can go to i-Mid and select the time settings but up/down doesn't change the H/M values. 😢

  11. It most-certainly does work on vehicles with DRL.

The illumination lead controls it generally; perhaps your installer didn't hook it up thinking the CANBus had the data on it, and the iDatalink unit doesn't pass it (or the unit doesn't decode that?)

I have DRL and the illumination wire connected and it works fine on my unit.

Thanks for confirming, I'll visit the shop after my trip to get the adjustment made. Man I'm so glad I found this forum, you folks rock!

  12. Weird, I noticed the auto dimming was not working after the shop set up the iDataLink Maestro RR for my 2014 CR-V and AVIC-5000NEX.

I'm gone the next couple weeks, I guess I'll have them take another look when I get back.

PS, unless this feature isn't supposed to work on cars that have DRL? :)

    Don

  13. I have a couple issues that I'm wondering if anyone else is having.

1.) Messages - Siri will, more often than not, repeat an older sent message rather than read new ones. she will ask if I want to hear my messages, I will say yes, and she reads a previous sent message and ask if I want to send it instead of reading new ones. If i say no or even yes, she says she doesn't understand?!? This makes messages pretty much useless.

2.) Random calls - It will make random calls to only one contact completely out of the blue. Yesterday, it made 17 random calls to this contact and I had to explain I didn't know why it was calling automatically.

On the plus side, Spotify seems to be working nicely. But I do have the very annoying POP when shut off.

iOS 8.1 was just released, does it fix the problem?

  14. If anyone with an iPhone and AVIC-5000NEX is interested, happy to do a test. I call your iPhone through my CarPlay. You call my iPhone through your CarPlay. This has me concerned, call quality is very important. If CarPlay kills call quality, I may need to disconnect when making calls, and reconnect when through. Interested in hearing the quality issue first hand.
