  1. It seems there was an update to the Appradio app today...

Anyone know how it works?  Seems like you can use Appradio mode with just 1 x lightning cable now, no HDMI needed.

It does say to update to the latest firmware but i cant seem to find any new firmware updates.

  2. I have the Appradio 4.  Great unit.

My only problem is that ive owned iphones all my life.  I hate Apple, really hate Apple.  Only stuck with iphones because i didnt like how most Android phones were so big.  Anyway, currently own the iphone 5.  CarPlay works great with the AR4.  My problem is that i feel like now im stuck with an iphone because the AR4 is more suitable for IOS devices than Android because of the CarPlay.  This is the only thing stopping me from buying a new Android phone now.

And with Android Auto being released in the not so far future... i kind of regret my purchase now.  I can only hope that the AR4 will also be firmware updatable to include Android Auto but thats highly unlikely.

Anyway, AR4 is great for what it does.

  3. Thanks JJJones. That is exactly the sequence that the AR2 requires (parking brake on-off-on). it looks like if I want to swap out my AR2 for an AR4 then it will plug & play. That's a reason to stick with Pioneer over Alpine. I have to figure out this rear monitor thing because I want to be able to play a video for the back seat passenger(s). Alpine might not even allow that (need to check).

Im not sure how accurate this is but Appradioworld says the Alpine doesnt support bluetooth connectivity??

That sounds quite odd seeing that i was under the impression that bluetooth was used for the Appradio to send commands to your phone, to switch songs etc.

Anyway, apparently Appradio can be bouight for 500USD now... makes me want to cry cos i got mine at full price 600USD :-(

  4. Hey Mate,

This is my first headunit, so the first time ive ever installed/used a bypass.  So i cant comment if the old relay method works.

I do know that the manual method of bypassing is to ground the parking wire, unground it, and then constantly ground it again to perform the bypass.

If your relay does this, then it should work on the Appradio 4.

Regarding not having a bypass and playing to an external device, sorry im not sure about this.  I'll see if i can test this, but at the moment ive completed my install so cant be arsed opening up everything again.

  5. JJ. If you're asking about the keyboard in Apple Maps, here's now to activate it. Open "Maps", "Destinations" and then press the "Magnifying Glass" icon. The keyboard icon then appears on the upper right corner.

Yeah, i'm referring to the keyboard function in Maps when using CarPlay.  When i tested it, i did not have the keyboard icon on the screenshot shown below...

All i had was Siri waiting for my command and a Cancel button.

  6. Just completed my wiring harness and did a test with CarPlay on my appradio 4.

My parking wire is currently not connected to anything because I'm waiting for my microbypass to arrive.

My problem is that the keyboard icon does not appear when trying to search for a destination in maps.

Siri pops up asking me for a destination but there's no keyboard icon on the top right hand side.

Are you guys able to confirm if the keyboard icon appears for you guys? Or is anyone who doesn't have a bypass(I know this is probably rare) or has a switch bypass able to confirm if the keyboard icon is disabled if the headunit thinks you are "driving".

  7. Ok. Just did a test run with my harness. Everything works ok. I'm still waiting on my microbypass so the parking wire is not connected to anything.

I got car play to work but my biggest issue is that I can't seem to get the onscreen keyboard to appear in Apple maps. I go to search for a destination and Siri pops up asking me where I want to go but there is no keyboard icon as stated in an earlier post. Does anyone know if this is because I don't have my bypass? I'm hoping its some security feature that's disabling the keyboard because the appradio thinks I'm "driving".

  8. Hi Mate,

You said Carplay was primarily designed for driving and no bypass is required.

Does that mean that Carplay does not have an on-screen keyboard?  For example, you wish to use Apple Maps to navigate to an address.  Do you have to use Siri to input your destination?  Or can you also manually type in an address.

All the review videos i have seen has not shown any sort of keyboard, only Siri.

    Cheers,
